The Tanglewood performance of 25 Or 6 To 4 was INSANE! Terry Kath's Strat needed a cigarette after he was done with it and 9 months later gave birth to baby Strats!

Chicago had 20 Top Ten hits, 5 #1 albums and still performs and records 54 years later!

The group, Chicago started in the late 60s - and had quite a combination of instruments blending together. Of the original 7 members: 1) Peter Cetera - was lead singer in many of their songs. He wrote some of the music, and he also played bass guitar. 2) Terry Kath - played lead guitar, and actually was lead singer in a few of their songs. His guitar-playing was noticed by Jimi Hendrix who spoke very highly of him. Terry Kath's voice was quite unique also - he was a fan of Ray Charles, and when he sings you might notice that it sounds kind of like Charles. 3) Robert Lamm - played keyboard, and was the lead singer on many of their songs. Lamm wrote many of their songs and was gifted in songwriting. 4) Danny Seraphine - drummer. He definitely could play the drums! 5) Walter Parazaider played the saxophone. 6) Lee Loughnane - trumpet player. 7) James Pankow - trombone player who also wrote some of their songs as well. Each musician wasn't limited to the instruments that I had just stated, but those instruments were the ones they played the most. The band has had many changes over the years and decades, and exist until now: 11/12/23. They have had 37 albums from late 60s until this date of 11/12/2023. There is a current Russian group that plays many Chicago songs, and they play them very well. That group is called 'Leonid and Friends'. Leonid and Friends also play a few 'Earth, Wind, and Fire' songs - and they do it very well! Enough said.

Imo, Chicago is one of the greatest bands EVER! A huge number of hits. One song after another is fire! 25 or 6 to 4, Make Me Smile, Beginnings, Call on Me, I'm a Man, Free, Saturday in the Park, Feeling Stronger Every Day, You're the Inspiration, Hard Habit to Break, If You Leave Me Now are just some of their hits, all can be reacted to on You Tube. BTW, since you like horns, try this group, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Here is my favorite;kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5dma6Z_tt-zZ5s.html

I love the horns TOO Mr Hive - seems modern music doesn't feature them much anymore....but back in the day (since I'm a geriatric) they were ample 😊

Just found you today, Alex. Two for two. You don't know this because you're you, but I majored in trombone in college, was in a Chicago cover band, and have all their early albums which featured their original jazz/rock sound. You did a stellar pick again, playing a studio cut. Why do I say that? I've seen a lot of live versions and the sound on most of them obscures a lot of the clean playing, and especially the incredible drumming of Danny Seraphine. Below are some of the best Chicago songs from when they were in their original jazz/rock mode: Introduction Beginnings Make Me Smile Saturday in the Park Wake Up Sunshine Another great pick you made, and thanks for playing a great-sounding album cut. Nice work!

On this same debut album is the track "Poem 58". An 8 minute plus song, it opens with almost 5 minutes of PURE FUNK with guitar God Terry Kath on guitar, Danny Seraphine on drums and Peter Cetera on bass. Trombone player James Pankow told the tale of them as Chicago Transit Authority playing the Whisky a Go Go one night and Jimi Hendrix saw them playing. In between sets Jimi went to the dressing room and told them "You guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs, and a guitar player that's better than ME! You wanna go on the road?". They said "YEAH!" and they became an opening act for Hendrix, playin arenas. Give a listen to "Poem 58" and hear Kath on guitar. You will IMMEDIATELY hear what Jimi was talking about!

With a band like Chicago, you really shouldn’t do the radio edit version… This is a band that recorded double-albums for all of their first 11 albums… They were artists, and the radio edits, to get a song to fit neatly into a corporate time parameter, really does the artistry a disservice.

My favorite Chicago song is "Make Me Smile". I'm sorry, but I just can't stand Peter Cetera. That's not Chicago! "Saturday in the Park" is great too!
