Master Sangbok Lee from Hanmoodo visited HEMA Seoul Duello and shared the essence of Hanmoodo moves. And we had some friendly sparing.
Hanmoodo is a Korean martial art developed in 1888 and has been kept secret as a family martial art until recent days. It's got a very unique style of steps and sword move mechanism. The sword he used is Hanmoodo's own sword. It resembles the design of a katana but slightly more custom designed to deliver Hanmoodo's style.

Back in Canada, I saw when bongtastic just got into rapier, he especially disciplined himself with one handed holding a Chinese wok for a couple of hours for maximizing his forearm and shoulder strength. Now he became a chief of the clan and battled one of the toppest masters in Korea. Proud of you Bongtastic.

Hanmoodo was invented in 1970's, stop lying))) Technically it is one of the numerous clones of hapkido, nothing more. And no practical experience in fencing at all.

@@russellcooke1542 Oh, I'm sorry if I'm wrong. But how would you comment on the historical fact that all martial arts in Korea were banned and suppressed for more than 300 years - until the Japanese occupation in 1910?

@@russellcooke1542 In the XIX century, there were no martial arts in Korea at all, except for a few Chinese monks in monasteries - and after 1910, the active teaching of Japanese karate, judo and kendo began - from a mixture of which, after 1945, all these modern Korean variations were created, each of which claims to be an "original" korean style?)))

I gotta say, good job from both combatants. Never heard about Hanmodo before, seems to have more flexibility than the sword disciplines of japan. Is it me or does it somehow correlate to taekyon?

Japanese martial arts are derived from just a small portion of korean arts

Hanmoodo claims lineage from 1800s but it is actually a school of Hapkido. Hapkido has influences coming from Aiki jujutsu, Taekkyon, Tang Soo Do, Judo, TKD, etc. from my understanding. If you look at Japanese arts from 8th century or so, such as Koden Ryu (jujutsu) their lineage is from Korea. However, Japanese people, despite archeological evidence often turn to nationalism and claim that their arts are original to japan. Similar with Korea, they claim that their arts are indigenous rather than influenced by japan. Even legitimate arts can have distorted history for reasons like this. This applies to countries outside of Korea and Japan. For example in China, their nationalists claim that all martial arts descend from Shaolin Kungfu, which is non-sense. In the west, people claim all martial arts descend from Pankration, which is also nonsense.
