So this song and video is semi-based on a true story. Dave "The Snake" Sabo (guitarist) wrote the song after reading about an 18 year old in LA who got life in prison for breaking and entering, drunk and disorderly, and first degree murder. He did in fact shoot another 18 year old friend dead in the chest one night while drunk on the streets. The name Ricky was supposedly chosen to fit better with the song and to protect the 18 yr old's identity. If you are interested, "Youth Gone Wild" was the world's first introduction to Skid Row, you should check that out too.

@@user-yn1sf9mq3z For sure. But if you really have never sat down and listened to the 3rd album Subhuman Race it is actually pretty freakin' good. No it isn't solid as the first two and it is nothing like the other albums musically but man there are some damn good songs on that album. They were trying to do something different and honestly they were way far ahead of their time. Go listen to it a few times. Like I said no it is not going to live up to this but is good in its own way. I listen to it just as much as the others.

"That child blew a child away" hits like a punch in the teeth from Holyfield. I think the best thing I was ever taught was to not take anything I was told at face value. If you teach your kids to think for themselves and question everything they will be strong, independent and unwilling to be led by whatever narrative is currently the loudest in our society.

Skid Row band was based out of NJ. Song idea was came from a local news report of a similar event. Yes the most successful bands in the eighties had a formula. Stunningly handsome lead singer with great hair and great vocal range, three guitars or two guitars and a keyboard, insane drummer, all members could sing and an ability to present raw metal rock song or grab your attention with a power ballad. Skid Row’s success was with Sebastian. After they fired him, never had another hit. Each part of the formula must be outstanding. When a component of it is gone, their success dwindles. Some reunite, some don’t. Some stay whole. Those bands are magical.

Skid Row, G&R, Great White, Def Leppard, Poison, Warrant, and so on. They were all part of what was called "Hair Bands" because they were all sporting the same hairdos, the same clothes, and the same style. The music varied slightly from one band to the other, but at the base, the sound you hear is the same. I had them ALL on EVERY inch of my wall, and when I ran out of wall space, I used the ceiling. LOL. Sebastian Bach watched me sleep every night, and let me tell you, it was a BEAUTIFUL thing to wake up to. He had an amazing voice. A lot of those bands came over from Europe. It was basically the second wave of the British Invasion. I know Def Leppard was, Europe, obviously, Metallica...I think Whitesnake...Iron Maiden...I know Ozzy was. They came over when the US started the hair band craze here, and I couldn't get enough of them. I didn't go to concerts because I was/am partially deaf, and that kind of sound when you aren't used to being to hear is BRUTAL. I made the mistake of standing in front of a speaker at a school dance once in secondary school. OMG. When you're used to everything being muted, and then suddenly it's like BAM it's too much. I knew I wouldn't be able to tolerate a live show. But I loved the music just the same.

Vocal range, the song, “Fly to the Angels” by Slaughter is one of those iconic ballads that has a real life story behind the story with an amazing lead singer. The band Slaughter came in just at the end of the Hair Band eras but still did enough music to make them be recognized as one of the great bands of their day. I think that “Guns N Roses” vibe is that scream/growl distortion you can hear them belt out.

Been a Skid Row fan since my dad introduced me at a young age. Between 18 to Life and Monkey Business, these are 2 of my favorites. I had to google the meaning of the this once. I copied this from Wikipedia as the meaning of the song...The title of the song alludes to its subject, 18-year-old Ricky, receiving a sentence of life imprisonment for the murder of another teen. The song paints Ricky's youth as his undoing. It was believed for a long time that guitarist Dave Sabo got the idea from a newspaper article about an 18-year-old named Ricky who was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his friend with a gun that, due to alcohol, he most likely guessed was not loaded. However, in an interview with the Professor of Rock, Sabo states that the original inspiration was his brother Rick's life after coming home from Vietnam. The writing process eventually led the song to being about an accidental murder. The music video also alludes to this.

I was a metal vocalist in the 80s and early 90s professionally. I had a hard upbringing, got into some trouble, and actually sung this song in a prison rock band.

Wikipedia-The title of the song alludes to its subject, 18-year-old Ricky, receiving a sentence of life imprisonment for the murder of another teen.

Guns and Skids were very close friends and influenced one another. Both singers even recorded together on Sebastian Bach's solo record. Wasted Time by Skid Row is about guns n' roses former drummer

The music we listened to had real meanings. This is one of many that spoke on social issues. Ricky's life needed direction....he could have been saved at any point.

Sebastian Bach was one of the greatest vocalist of his Era. I saw Skid Row live and he was just as good live. Sad to see him just losing it and fighting with everyone including his old band and Ronnie Radke.

In all fairness Ronnie Radke seems to live to inflame situations, antagonize people and bitch about it to hear himself talk.

@@LiveAlcheme yeah but Sebastian did start this one and he's the one who brought it back up recently. With both coming out with albums recently might be a good publicity move.
