Darwin’s first line about “Welcome to a world called earth” is also a reference to the video games. Professor Oak. Introduced the game by saying “Welcome to a world called Pokémon!” So it feels like an extra diss in Ash, Darwin introducing Ash to a world where he’s the expert.

Ash has caught a Gengar in the most recent series of the anime, so the "yet to catch the ghost-type" line is no longer completely true. But when the rap was written, it was true that he'd never caught a ghost-type pokemon.

I know that this is like 7 months ago, but technically Ash did have a ghost pokemon in the first season, a Haunter, that he used against Sabrina. But I don't remember if he actually used a ball to catch him, but I do remember giving him away to Sabrina.

@@dudemaverick8114 He didn't catch Haunter in that one. Haunter just followed him because he thought it was funny. They made a point in the episode about not being able to actually "catch" a ghost type. Maybe that's why it took Ash so long to catch Gengar.

"Reese's Pieces" is another amazing subtle double: he referenced the candy but Darwin also studied a species of monkey called "Rhesus" and he studied their habits and the biological evolutionary traits in their bodies and brains (so his test subjects for that work, like the butterflies, finches, etc. were, in fact, "Rhesus pieces".)

Not sure if you caught the ineffective lines depth. In the show, there was an episode that Ash had a birthday and turned 11. Then in the next part of the series, it was said he was still 10. Hence “...you’re so ineffective, you couldn’t even turn 11.”

Idk why you're so passionate, after I've explained pretty well that I don't really care all that much, especially not that I want to research things I'll forget in a second. This fight is interesting because it involved two fan rappers to work behind the scenes helping the writing of the Pokemon bars since Peter and Lloyd weren't the most knowledgeable. Those two rappers are Mat4yo and Cam Steady who both have great KZfaq channels.

two things you missed, Darwins opening bar is mimicking how the Pokemon professors are introduced to you in the games (hello welcome to the world of pokemon) also theineffective line is in reference to Darwins research on effectiveness. Basically you're more effective the older you get and the more kids you have cause you help society more

The ineffective line is also a reference to Pokemon's mechanics where attacks of a certain type don't inflict much damage against a Pokemon that's of another type (Ex. Fire-type attacks are not very effective against Water-type Pokémon).

It wasn't the fights that made children sick. It was an episode in which the explosion was a flash of blue and red, it affected epileptic children and cause some to have seizures. Look at this I am teaching teacher Knox.

Probably too much creepy pasta about the original red and green japanese versions but this; The Lavender Town song allegedly made children sick when they heard it-and, in extreme cases, it reportedly drove them to commit suicide. Lavender Town Syndrome is also known as Lavender Town Tone, Lavender Town Conspiracy, and Lavender Town Suicides.

@@maretak5542 those claims were never substantiated due to many reasons, all of which involve no correlating evidence being proven as a cause and everything else not even being confirmed as true. The only claim about Lavender Town Syndrome proven real is that the music was changed in later games. Definitely a good Creepy Pasta from my past to hear brought up again though. Thing is, if they were messing with binaural beats with Lavender Town's original music as the media claims, it is actually POSSIBLE for people to be "manipulated" by it or have adverse reactions. I listen to BBs a lot for many different things--some are good for relaxing, some waking up, so on and so forth--and there is often an advisory to not listen for hours and hours on end, just in case. If the frequencies change throughout it enough, you are less likely to experience these kinds of effects, but it still isn't a given, and it can make you physically ill, for sure. Mostly depends on the person and the video, and all are different cases. I mean, just last night I put one on for studying, had an advisory on a 90m video suggesting not to listen to them for no more than that whole video the rest of the day, and I was feeling a bit ill just 5 or 10m in. I turned it off and went to regular ASMR after that, cause that BB video just wasn't for my body...

The Animated Slave Fights line is also a reference to Darwin's strong opposition to slavery, which got him into a fair bit of trouble and meant some of his work wasn't taken seriously until after he died. I think you're right that it's also a reference to the Porygon episode that gave kids seizures.

The "old man glitch" was used for missingno encounters along with item duplication and hex code manipulation. You could use it in combination with your character's name in order to encounter high level rare pokemon and missingno on cinnabar island's east shore.

Also the line about "being ineffective" is also about the attacks in pokemon and how, depending on type match up, it will say, "such and such attack is super effective" or it will say something like, for example, "bulbasaur used razor leaf on charizard, it's not very effective" like using a grass attack on a fire type, it will say "it's not very effective"

I think Ash is 11 tho, at least technically. There was a mention of the original trio celebrating his birthday in one of the movie shorts. And it couldn't have been his 10th, because thats when the journey started. AFAIK, that was the last mention of anything related to his age.

So, actually, the glitchy old man line is about the Missingno glitch - basically you gotta do the old man glitch, then fly to Cinnabar Island and surf along a certain beach, and it'll spawn a whole bunch of glitched out pokemon.

The glitchy old man bar was from red/blue. You talked to an old man in Vermillion City then flew to Cinnabar Island and surfed on the coast. You’d find a Pokémon called Missingno and once you beat it you’d get 999 of whatever item was in your 7th slot. This cheat could also cause your game to glitch and ruin your game.

the glitch was the missingno glitch it was used to multiply one of the items in the item slot it focuses on and the part about the fight making people sick was a play on a banned episode "porygon, the cyber soldier" which caused alot of people in japan to have seizures because of all the red and blue flashing animation

Hey Knox , the glitchy old man at sea was for Mew , you talk to an old man in Viridian city then go to Cinnabar and sail just off the coast, and run into missingno.( a glitch in the system that causes wierd crap to happen.) fly to Cerulean city then go to a grass patch to the north and the encounter is always Mew.

I really appreciate that you break down these bars for us in your reactions, since ERB does so much research on the characters they portray in these battles that it's very easy to miss some references even for someone like me who's a history nut. Even in previous battles your historical knowledge is pretty impressive from how you break down historical figures that you know about. P.S. in your Burger King vs Ronald McDonald reaction livestream, you saw and acknowledged a Superchat that suggested you react to and break down some of Calliope Mori's songs, and I highly recommend taking a look at some of her content since she's a super dedicated rapper. Just to give you a bit of a background, she's a rapper apart of an idol agency called "Hololive", who uses virtual Anime avatars to stream on KZfaq, and one of her songs "DEAD BEATS" topped the charts on iTunes once, so I recommend giving that one a listen first. Stay strong and keep doing what you do, Knox!

FINALLY someone noticed the old man glitch reference, it's a classic glitch in pokemon r/b and if I'm not wrong, you'll get to face professor oak with a missingno, skeletal pokemons, and fully evolved starters with 100+ level, and yes, the glitch is done technically at the sea. I was like "Damn, no one's gonna get that"

ok, partially right and partially creepypasta, old man glitch has you do the catching tutorial then fly to cinnabar and surf on the edge of town to catch missingno, the oak battle was never programmed into the game, and the skeletal pokemon is from the white hand creepypasta

I hate to keep pushing, but you REALLY should react to the Stupendium!! It'll be a lot of fun, especially with all of the doubles and triples. Example: "A rap against an animator?
