Lalisa in Thai means the praised one so I think this was actually an amazing way to solo debut. The struggle with Lisa's first single was always going to be encapsulating all of her versatility into something under 4 minutes. I think it's a great 'teaser' that will gain more mainstream exposure and hopefully increase her fan base. It's a very Lisa song. Casual fans don't know what Lisa's personality off screen. She is a very jolly person, which is contrast to what she portrays on screen. It's a fun song like Lisa's real character, with still the mix of swag that's why it's a great title track.

Not taking away any credit of Lisa, I adore her, she's my bias, she's talented af in EVERYTHING!, I f-ing love the song and the MV, but I think this single was made not only as a song, but a marketing tool as well. If you compare this solo with the Jennie's or Rosé's, it's absolutely different. The hype was out of this world; marketing was talking about her single for mooooonths beforehand; the single is named after HER so no one who heard this or of this song could ever forget her name, at the very least; she showcased singing, rapping, sing/rap, dancing, being sweet, sexy AND badass, there were several styles of Kpop in this one song, so it basically catered to everyone; HUGE shout out to Blackpink and Blinks with the "crown belongs to WE" (and you can hear the known "BLACKPINK!" in the back of the track right as she is saying that); another huge shout out to her own heritage - "from Thailand to Korea..." - and the whole set and instrumentals are from thai culture, and the outfit she's wearing on the throne with the headdress, that whole outfit is traditional thai and veeeeery upscale and "godly", it was a beautiful homage to her home country, but also, no doubt the marketing team did that as to gain more traction to the song and Lisa herself, so Korea and Thailand, at least, are gonna be marketing from mouth to mouth this song, and that increases her chances of people who don't listen to Kpop and don't know her, to find out about her and Blackpink; some rap/singing parts in english and the chorus being simple to sing along even if you don't know korean, and something that doesn't alienate anyone; and the list goes on. This solo was made to market Lisa as someone who can do everything and can fit into most people's "likes", be it the singing, the rapping, the set design, the outfits, the cinematography, everything. The rest of the album is also sprinkled with that idea, but they sound more "focused" on a single theme. So yeah, this solo was all over the place cause it's supposed to place Lisa on everyone's radar, and consequently, Blackpink. It's pretty genius. Lisa was already known worldwide, and with this she can truly become international, along with Blackpink. They knew they couldn't do that with Jennie or Rosé cause during their solos, they weren't in the position Lisa is on the industry nowadays (not saying they are any less awesome than her!! Just that a few days ago, a LOT of people from all over the world knew Lisa, and today that number increased tenfold). And I bet they're putting the preasure on Jisoo (and the whole group, really) to learn advanced english ASAP so when her solo drops, they can do what they did to Lisa's solo and more, cause she'll already be on people's radar thanks to Lisa's solo. And then, for sure for suuuure - cause that's what YG does - they'll market the shit out of Blackpink in the US and they'll sign with an american label for singles or albums in english. No doubt about it. They tried to do it with every major group or soloist they had in the past, and Blackpink might be the time they succeed.

So it’s made especially for Lisa☺️ Edit: Another information cause seems like lot of people interested ☺️ There are 3 famous traditional head piece for female dancer which is Chada , Radklao and Kiao 1.Chada is the biggest one ,and quite heavy. Chada has front frame and sideboards so it cover all of your hair.Only use for formal ceremony and propitious event cause it’s actually a crown. 2. Radklao is the one Lisa is wearing. Radklao place on center of your head , don’t have front frame so we can still see the hair. Some have sideboards but some don’t and the peak is lower than chada 3.Kiao is the smallest. The peak is low and bottom base is similar to lotus and use to cover a hair bun Also, the castle behind her is Phanom Rung stone castle at Buriram which is her hometown in Thailand.

Totally agree with you, as a huge Lisa fan I was disappointed. For a Solo debut, the whole production team should’ve come harder. Lisa’s strength lies in dancing and rapping, even a bit of RnB and this didn’t bring anything new to the table compared to what we’ve already been seeing from Lisa in the group. If people are concerned with marketability, literally Lisa being Lisa is marketable enough, we know the queen will break records regardless of what she puts out. So instead of being so, quote on quote, surface level with this endeavor, we deserved to see the best of Lisa instead of this safe card. The MV design did come through tho, so props to that.

I agree, I was kinda waiting for the harder rap for this entire MV. I also enjoy this dance track, bouncy stuff from her too so I wasn't disappointed exactly, but it was unexpected. The way I see it, her fans already know she can rap and most BP fans think of her like a rapper. It might have been a branding choice to highlight her singing and dancing talent in this first one to open her up to audiences that might have put her in a box. That said, I really hope she's able to just let loose on another track soon, because that's what I think a lot of people wanted from this one.

what i was missing from this was definitely a dance that would show off her dancing skills even more. cause this dance is very simple and just in general very easy to learn. i've basically learnt it already from watching the mv 10 times. that's all im missing. otherwise i thought this was hella fire. money took the cake for me tho

I got your point knox but If she did just rapping in her song then the other things won't have get through to the audience that might got lacked in some ways like choreography as she is a main dancer. At the start theres a visual double on her jacket. the left side of her jacket is the mona lisa and the right side is the lead singer of kiss showing off his tongue while making a "la" sound. If you look at it as a name tag, the back of her jacket literally depicts LALisa. which is her first name, lalisa.

I started that journey a year ago, and can highly recommend "GO! The diversity of the set shows the diverse side of Lisa. The music concept itself is all about Lisa. You can see her badass, and cute side. But one catchy part was her dancing and rapping in a Thai set and remembering that she is still a part of Blackpink.

You might like her second song “MONEY”, which is more hip hop :)

I think just like with Rosé 'gone', the other song 'money' is more her essence 'Lalisa' is still a great song IMO

Calculating the 8 bars way she hit 6.50 syllabes per second. But if we only count the FAST FAST line, she hot more than 9 syllabes per second. Which means that, Lisa is so capable of doing a fast rap like this. I mean a whole verse, if only she wouldn't have slowed it down after that line she would've broken Soyeon and Jennie record. But ok, at least we had that short fast line demonstrating she can do it

I like that you are setting a high expectation for Lisa as a rapper. It makes me want to hear more from her in rapping perspective.

My personal interpretation of this song is that she wanted to highlight her on stage persona which is this badass rapper/dancer that we all know while still owning her off stage personality which is much more sweet. She's kinda making the two meet in a way. The whole aesthetic of the MV is very glittery and kinda sexy which is the on stage Lisa and the lyrics also refers to this, when she says "you know the attitude" and "the loudest in the room" I feel like she's referencing who she is on stage. But she still found ways to incorporate some more personal things. Even if they are a little more hidden, which I think could also be done on purpose to highlight,, again the differences between who she is on and off stage. With her on stage persona being at the front since it's what people know her for and her more personal "real" self more hidden. There are many Thai references (I probably didn't even noticed half of them) which are a great shout out to her roots. And the title which is not only her name (not her birth name tho which could also reference that on stage persona in a way) but also means the praised one in Thai, and I just think that this little detail is so smart. So, I think it's a really well balanced representation of who she is on and off stage. And honestly I think this is a very good song that suits her very much. There's also a second song in the album which is called money and has more rap.

Lalisa is fire & money! Did you notice when she burst through the door dressed in a black suit with police officers that it actually spells out Polisa on the label on their uniforms?
