The “they” refers to his emotions. He’s constantly in a state of torment and battle with his thoughts. It’s interesting how he worded this song, though. He’s asking his emotions to let go of him because he knows he won’t let go of them. So he feels enslaved to their whims.

It’s not only this song, too. Yes, he’s asking his emotions to let him go. his song Leave Me Alone, though, also talks to his emotions. and in Remember This, he talks about what happened with his happier emotions and why sadness and anger replaced them. honestly, Nate is such a deep guy, I love it. maybe he thinks he’s not, but he’s a relatable guy, with these types of songs. (i know he said, in another song, “i don’t rap so millions of people are like me- i rap cuz there’s millions of people just like me” but yk what i mean)

I think they are for FREEDOM as well. In the song changes he says “All my emotions are violent They don't want freedom to find me” He talks about letting him go to find the 7 letters here. But I’m sure they are many ways to interpret it.

I’ve been waiting for this reaction for so loooong, my favorite part is when he says “Aim in your direction shoot at my reflection shatter my perception I need you to let me...” cause you understand that the whole song he’s been talking to and about himself and it’s amazing The seven letters mean Freedom, in the first verse he asked, Maybe someday ill have a taste freedom? The coarse is about how he wants to let himself go, if he's let go then he'll be free. Also, the NO NO NO and GO GO GO adlibs are his inner voices

I love this song. I love the choppy flow in this song. I love how he changes it up in every song. Even within the same song he will change it up. And yes he is an Artist. He let's you feel the song, even before he starts... And then he will let you breath..through out the song and as the song ends. I love the 52 sec of the 1st of a song that just gets in the mindset that he is going for. There is no other like NF.

This is one of the few songs that I listened to and cried upon first hearing it. The ending of him yelling under the piano gave me intense chills and sent me over the edge and cried more. Depression and anxiety speaks volumes from NF to his fans and that is one reason why fans take a liking towards sadder or aggressive music as a way to feel connected, seen, and heard. NF is able to put these emotions into words that many of us feel and can immediately validate as we listen.

I also think the way he flips the use of the repeated "no's" is super clever. At least to me it seems like the first set of "no, no, no's" is more from the point of view of "they" telling him no but the second set of no's is audibly more angry and its him yelling no and he's going to do what he wants and needs

I couldn't wait for you to get to this song because it is my personal favorite song of NF's from the Search album. "Shoot at my reflection shatter my perception!" - NF. Perception was the name of the album he released before The Search. He also said in Nate - "Yeah, Perception's coming next, we 'bout to reach the masses It sounds awesome, at the same time, it doesn't matter" he got depressed when Let You Down blew up like he said in the Interlude on The Search. He loves what he does and how the fans respond to his music but he's at a mental crossroad because he knows what drives us to him is the way he expresses his thoughts and struggles and he's trying to let go of those struggles.

When he says " I pick Up the weapon" it can also mean the bible. The bible is used as a weapon. He also says "you just want perfection" which can mean God made us to his image and expect us to follow his steps cause he is already perfect

I might be stretching, but I really like the line "shatter my perception" as I feel like it was a double, with Perception being the album before The Search. He's referencing how he always has to do better and be the perfectionist he is. Great reaction Knox!

Beautiful song. I believe he’s talking to his inner demons when talking about “they”. Saying they just want me dead, don’t want me alive referring to his suicidal struggle. I went through a similar struggle a year ago and this song spoke to me on such a deep level and helped me process what I was going through.
