The song came out in 1981 which pre dates rave and various other genres of music mentioned by a shade under ten years. They are considered the Godfathers of Techno. Their unique sound was from hardware they BUILT and pushed music technology beyond the limits. From the early 70s to the present day they still play live and have influenced so many artists and created more than a few genres of music. They were also sampled for a certain Hip Hop track "planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force.

I think the driving of tech was Kraftwerk's biggest achievement. It's hard to overemphasise how groundbreaking and difficult the use of tech to produce music was circa '80. edit - not a big fan of the music, too sterile for my tastes. I fringe techno as a genre which pretty much excludes a lot of European techno, more of a fan of stuff which leans more towards hard progressive house (e.g BT's remix of Grace - Not over yet).

It was actually included on their 1978 album The Man-Machine. It was re-released as a single in 1981 since they had gotten more international recognition. You can't overstate how influential Kraftwerk were on the electronic music that came after them.

Today it would be fairly easy to do this song on ONE keyboard. Back then synths could usually only do one note at a time, so multiple keyboards and tracks all layered together. A marvel for its time and still holds up.

Yes!! Kraftwerk is fantastic! Their influence reaches far and wide into techno, hip hop, house, and rock n roll. One of Coldplay's biggest hits is a straight up lift of "Computer Love". Check out their album Computer World for some classic songs that got sampled a LOT. German techno pop... this was groundbreaking music for 1978 at the height of the disco era... The sound of Kraftwerk was different and the technology was advancing on synthesizers, which set the stage for the synth pop scene in the early 80's w/ bands like Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Devo, Berlin, etc... And they were a huge influence on Rammstein... This was Kraftwerk's 7th album 'The Man-machine' ... ('Die Mensch-maschine) in 1978... the song was originally in German ('Das model') ... I believe it was re-released in English in 1982 and charted at #9 on the UK charts... 'The Robots' ('Die Roboter') was another huge single from this record and the group could never out-do the success of this album, but had numerous albums in the 80's (Their other big album was apparently 'Autobahn' from 1974) ... their last studio album being 'Tour de France soundtracks' in 2003, but Kraftwerk has been touring successfully on their catalog on music in recent decades, albeit w/ only 1 original member... and did a successful US tour in 2022.

Jean Michel Jarre performed a concert and light show in the City of Houston (my hometown) back when I was in high school. I think it was in 1986 or '87. He had the laser light show on the buildings in downtown and a radio station played it so people could watch and listen all over the city. It was pretty damn cool.

🧐Actually “The Model” (1978) was the b-side of “Computer Love” when it was released as a new single in 1981, it was subsequently re-released as a double album-side later that year; incidentally the music from “Computer Love” was used on Coldplays single “Talk” released some 24 years after the original!🧐

It's funny how it sounds like it was made on an old school nintendo, because it was definitely made on a few thousand dollars worth of synths from the late 70s. This was just before synthesizers became cheap enough for a normal human to buy. In the 80s, FM synthesis became a thing (some would say a scourge) and they could be made and sold for very little money because they were digital, not a complex monstrosity of electronics like the analog synths of the 60s and 70s. In fact, the Sega Master system has an FM synth chip inside it that could do 4 channels of sound. The sega master system cost a fraction of what a Minimoog did... And there was a whole game console in there.
@sillbit

Well. In the case of Kraftwerk, you could not buy the synths. Because Kraftwerk built all their own hardware themselves. Nothing from any shop except electronics components.

Hey Trash Talkers, I have got a song with an INSANE singer for you to react to. If this guy's voice doesn't blow you away, I don't know what will. Check out this song "Stand In Line' by Impellitteri from the late 80s. The lead singer here is Graham Bonnet. This is a late 80s metal song, but a little ppppier than most, so I think a lot of people would enjoy it. It wasn't hugely popular back in the day, except for the late night metal crowd that would watch videos like this on Mtv. BTW, Impellitteri is the name of the guitar player, who at that time, was cited as wanting to be the fastest guitar player of that time. There is a little of that here, so you can enjoy some shredding too. As a guitar player myself, his speed is impressive, but I wish there was a little more musically in this solo. Trust me,... you need to hear this singer. Cheers, Tim

All electronic music based on Kraftwerk's music. They were very special because they not just made the first electronic music in music history - if I know it well - but they built their own instruments. Once they built robots formed by their own image and those robots played a song on stage. Around 1975 one of their album was a symbol of a protest against goverment who wanted to use electronic ID system. Maybe this is just an urban legend anyway. I like them since my high school era (from early '90s). Next to them an another german electronic music makers is the Tangerine Dreams I also like. They make a direction of this type of music back in those days (they have a lot of music for movies but different TV channel used their music as a signal for their broadcast).

At that time that this song was originally composed, there was no Nintento in sight. The people played Pong on their black'n white TVs. 😂

Kraftwerk music has been sampled so many times, especially by dance and electro acts such as Afrika Bambaataa. Checkout Planet Rock which samples Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express. (and yes, Kraftwerk do English and German version of their songs)

Kraftwerk were so far ahead of their time, all their biggest songs are covers. By so many styles from Big Black to the Cardigans to Rammstein all did this song. But everyone goes back to Kraftwerk cause the originals are so unique and cool AF. Devo were heavily influenced by them and sort of became the US version but much later. But Kraftwerk were so ridiculously stoic and german with that pre-glam stance. Purely original. But this is how us angry Gen-Xers did it! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oNqAed1zsaq3gJ8.html

One of Kraftwerk’s most important and best known track is “Tour De France” (1983). That same year George Kranz released “Dinn Daa Daa”. Oh & in that same year, Hashim released “Al-Naafiysh”. And the following year Art Of Noise was bumping “Beat Box” (1984). Those four immediately come to mind as well as others too. It was a lot of fun learning to pop & lock as well as break dancing to that music both in Queens, NYC (92 KTU, 98 Kiss, Hot 103/Hot 97, 107 BLS) & Miami (96X/Power 96, Hot 105). C’mon boys review those classics and enjoy the vibe!

basically, the lyrics are the same as modern rap songs about that situation, without going to the gutter (well, mabye a bit). he is not a john, he wishes he could dare to be, he is just watching. She's a model and she's looking good I'd like to take her home, that's understood She plays hard to get, she smiles from time to time It only takes a camera to change her mind [Verse 2] She's going out to nightclubs, drinking just champagne And she has been checking nearly all the men She's playing her game and you can hear them say She is looking good, for beauty we will pay [Verse 3] She's posing for consumer products now and then For every camera, she gives the best she can I saw her on the cover of a magazine Now she's a big success, I want to meet her again asked GPT4 to translate it to rap. I give it a 4/10: Verse 1: She’s a dime, model status, looking fly, I wanna scoop her up, no need to ask why, Playing hard to get, but she flashes that grin, One snap of the lens, and her mind’s in a spin. Verse 2: Hit the nightclubs, sippin’ on champagne, Eyes scanning the room, she’s playing the game, Men lining up, trying to catch her eye, She’s got that glow, beauty ain’t cheap, oh my! Verse 3: Consumer products, she’s the face they seek, Every camera click, she’s at her peak, Magazine covers, she’s the star of the scene, Big success story, I’m tryna meet her, you know what I mean?

This was sort of accidental hit. It was originally B side of the single "Computer Love", but then the British New Romantic / Romantic Goth scene took it in the clubs along with groups and artists like David Bowie and Japan. It paved the way to the actual new wave synth & electronic laced bands such as Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Human League and Depeche Mode which formed the music of its own to the New Romantics among other bands and artists. Belgian group Telex was on the same areas as Krafwerk but perhaps with more openly humorous touch. Africa Bambaata did take a lot from Kraftwerk to his "Planet Rock" hit. :)
