I was at this show. We were taking a studio tour of WNBC in Burbank, CA and we saw her getting her hair done back in the hairdressing department. After the tour the guide gave us free tickets to the taping of Password, Wheel Of Fortune, and the Tonight Show. And after the shows they had drawings for free prizes like toasters, blenders, radios. It was a memorable time. It was around Thanksgiving 1980.

She has a rep of being a diva but when you look into it she just stood up for herself refused to be bullied into nude scenes, refused to be slammed down on to a bed in a scene they did anyway, she walked off of set and refused to return until the director apologised to her in front of the cast . Ahead of her time in attitude. I'm a Nurse and had a patient who made and measured her on The Muppet show for an outright at some ceremony, he said she so nice warm , kind and 1000% more attractive in the flesh. He said he was taking her measurements to his grave with the biggest smile

@@RADIUMGLASS In our context (North America), gays still had a very hard time coming out in the 90s (depending on where one lives, and what one's family is like, one will likely find this difficult even now [some families still force their gay children in conversion therapy]). Many gays who have come out have been rejected by their families, friends or lost their careers. Many influential religions still condemn it and many gays suffer in silence as a result (closeted gays aren't hypocrites, they live in fear). I don't know Rosie or Ellen personally, but can only saw that I imagine that their lives in the limelight as gay women were very difficult. Lili Tomlin was known to be gay as early as the 1970s, but TV guide never wrote about it, nor did Johnny Carson even asked her about her wife. It was kept a secret because it made bigoted people uncomfortable and ratings where considered more important than peoples feelings or civil rights. Ellen was highly criticized when she came out in the late nineties and her life, as a result, changed dramatically. She lost a lot before gaining it back. Living closeted may just be a metaphorical 'prison'. I think one would have to 'know there to go there' (to quote Zora Neal Hurston).
