This is a perfect restoration, almost complete restoration, of an antique axe, perhaps an antique hatchet, maybe a vintage axe, also vintage hatchet, could classify as a viking axe or viking hatchet. related to it are restoring lighter, or maybe restoring butcher knife, and maybe restoring motorcycle like soviet tool including German tool act of tool restoration or weapon restoration. could also be a headlight restoration containing asmr no talking. it is relaxing, an oddly satisfying video full of rebuild and fun.

The axe has a bevel on one side for hewing wood you’re working on rather than chopping into it - the “bent handle” is to keep the user’s knuckles safe while doing so 👍🏻 Excellent restoration, great content, keep it up man!

I watched a few of your woodworking videos today. Thank you very much for brightening up my Sunday. I’d like to make a small suggestion. I really love watching them. But I felt that not enough time was spent showing the final product. It’s really nice to spend a little bit of time looking at the final result. Sometimes the final shot is so short that I feel I don’t even have time to breathe out and fully appreciate your mastery. Apart from that … brilliant. Keep up the magnificent work.

Nice to see this old side axe brought back to life. Enjoyed the video, good idea with the gun blue. Entertained by the steam bending section 🤔 . A norm for tool handles was to keep an eye open for the right shaped branch, cut it green, do the initial de-barking and shaping but leave it oversize to allow for shrinkage, (air ) dry it out slowly over the winter and do the final fit after 6 - 9 months has elapsed. As an apprentice my 80 year old Master Craftsman taught me to look for handles in the hedge or woods before you need them and even wait several seasons until they grew to the right size. I've re-handled multiple Devon shovels over years doing exactly this. Nice job on the wedging bravo 👏

The shape of the head suggest it's a broad ax for shaping wood. Those typically came in right and left handed versions, so the bent handle may be intentional and not due to warping. The handle design allowed people to work close to the wood and not scrape their knuckles on the logs.
@albertdrover2604
@albertdrover2604 2 жыл бұрын
the axe is straight on one side because it it called a SIDE AXE. It is used to flatten logs to make planks. That is why the handle was bent - to keep the users hand away from the log. This one was for a right-handed person, they also made them for left-handed people.

as someone pointed out.. the bend was to provide clearance for your hand when hewing heavy timber faces to make the square.. there's tons of videos on how to do this, showing various techniques.... the handle of a broadaxe like this was typically bent AFTER it was mounted in the axe head itself. by clamping the axe head to some heavy timber, a block placed under the tail of the handle provided the leverage to bend.....tight the clamp down to bend the handle and then let it sit for a couple days....

This ax is for making square props for houses. That's why it's bent on one side and straight on the other, and the handle was curved.

I'm partly here because I saw your rocking chair restoration short, but I'm mainly here for the pun in your channel name.

It's a broad ax. Used for making a flat side on a log. The curved side makes a series of notches then the flat sides splits the wood off between notches.

Damn this axe is cool , the curve is probably for balancing weight distribution and ergonomics so we don’t desire to use the axe less during prolonged uses

I love the oil spill. All the nerds on reddit going crazy because you dumped it out lol. I would love to win this. Good job on the restoration, that's impressive

Yeah Reddit has a lot of those people. And still I used the excess to treat the workbench so it didn't go to waste. Thanks for the feedback :)

Do you think the voice overs help? Does it make it more engaging to watch? It probably helps explain by giving context, right?
