Quadrophenia was filmed Sep 25, - Dec 1978. This was 6 June, 1979 (35 anniversary of D Day) promoting the film not released in the UK until 16th Aug. 1979. By this time Sting was already huge with The Police, but the inteviewer seems oblivious to that,

Sting would know better than anyone. He was a sellout from day one and the fakest punk rocker who ever lived, a total bandwagon jumper. At least The Who were true innovators and actually put some blood, sweat and tears into what they did before they got rich and lazy.

Roger Daltrey wrote in his book that The Who were never really mods themselves, but they attracted a mod following at the London clubs they played. I think back then they covered a lot of R'n'B classics which the mods liked to dance to. But The Who are essentially a rock band, which is a bit of a paradox.

Heavy Metal came from Mod anyway. The first bands to use Marshalls were The Who and the Creation used massive amplification when most bands were using Vox AC 30's.
