@@MF_JONES Absolutely, TRAILERS are useless! In my case, long story short, I went to watch it without wanting to watch it as I had seen 3 seconds of the trailer and they were jumping from one building to another (Morpheous during training) and I said "NO WAY I WILL EVEN WATCH THAT GARBAGE"... and needless to say: It blew my mind.

Had the same experience with The Matrix, didn't know what it was about, was pretty much blown away. I like the comment Tarantino makes about Speed, being what it was back then, going to a movie theater and watching it. I kind of have the same thing for movies like Days of Thunder and Jurassic Park. Thrilling to watch in a movie theater, but maybe not later on on a tv screen when you get older. Battle Royale is bonkers, it's unorthodox and god damn strange, watching it wanted me to see more asian movies. Think I will watch some of the movies he mentions.

Yeah the fact that people love the trilogy and now a fourth movie as a whole baffles me. I never even bothered with that animatrix crap. But I introduced my stepdaughter to matrix and she asked to watch the second one and I was just like... no we can watch the first one again if you want...

Memories of Murder still haunts me to this day. Left me with a profound hopelessness for humanity. I love Bong Joon Ho's brilliant mash-up of horror, slapstick, family melodrama, and bureaucratic incompetence. He effortlessly blends all genres in all his films.

Die hard 1 was one of his best too.. that’s what put him on the map 100%. Arguably one of the best action movies ever made and I don’t think anyone could of played that role anywhere close to Bruce.

Tarantino has some of the most well-rounded views on movies. He watches Japanese, Korean, Chinese, American, British etc. movies and his lists always contain a mix of all kinds of genres. Horror, Action, Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi etc.

Tarantino is a director/writer who genuinely loves the art form. I'd love to hear him discuss what makes a film notable vs one of these favorites. Some of them he doesn't even discuss.

I think he just says something if he thinks there is something to say that hasn't been said a million times, take praise for the fight club. He mentions the movie and moves on, with the Matrix which judging by what he said he likes less than many of the others on the list, yet he commented on it quite extensively -compared to the others anyway. He has a scattered mind and I'm sure could and would talk extensively about all of them if asked a question.

I love he put Speed in there, such a great action movie. My grandma and I watched it until the VHS was shot when I was a kid. Sadly I was a bit too young to see it in theaters but I do adore that film to this day. Totally underrated.

@@howtodoitdude1662 Its a love story, old man loves young girl, usually a recipe for self destruction, the beauty of the film is that it takes the story to the brink, the nuances keep pushing you in the wrong direction, yet you still get the wonderful happy ending without the carnage. The mature Japanese escort is in itself a masterful scene.

Imagine being the biggest actor in the world in the biggest city in the world, except you can't speak their language, you aren't inclined to their fast-pace of life or customs and you just don't feel yourself. Scarlett's character is feeling all of the exact same things, except she is young and confused. Their bond isn't because they would ever be friends in the real world, it's out of desperation and a feeling of normalcy. "It's a love story" is the farthest thing from the truth.

I'm 32 and so lucky I'm the age I'am. People around my age are the chosen generation. BOOMERS RULE. So much culture. MY youth was filled with movies like: FRIDAY (watched at friends house age 7?) MATRIX (saw at home age 12ish) FIGHT CLUB (watched as class in Freshman English 2003) SHAWN OF THE DEAD (saw at my friends at age 14/15?) TEAM AMERICA: World Police ( watched at friends age 15) DAZED AND CONFUSED (didnt watch till HS mid 00's)

The fact that he put Friday is insane, but not surprising. I’ve shown that film to basically everyone I’ve known, from work friends to college roommates, and everyone has agreed it’s incredibly entertaining and relatable.

I'm glad he included a Park Chan-wook film. That director deserves a whole lot more recognition. I am positive that if Tarantino made this list including the year 2016, he would have picked The Handmaiden as one of the best. That movie is a beautiful experience

I'll wait. John Wick has very good coreograghy and it's a fun watch, but has probably 1% of the writing, story, characters, originality, visual brillance of The Matrix. Whole other level.

Awesome list! My top 20 from 1992 to 2009 would include atleast 6 Quentin Tarantino films (maybe not Deathproof or Grindhouse). The top 20 films from that time period unarguable include Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol 1, Kill Bill Vol 2, Jackie Brown, and Inglourious Basterds. Greatest Director of all time!

Quentin seems to appreciate any film regardless of genre and that's what makes him great. Art is in many forms and the fact he put Friday, Police Story and Team America in with The Matrix and Unbreakable goes to show how diverse his pallet is. Just realized this was one of the lists Bong Joon Ho was talking about in his Best Director Oscar speech. Quentin surely has good taste in international films, and most legendary directors do. Subtitles really partially removes the language obstacles of accessing some great masterpieces.

@@sparqqling I think that it also depends on the kind of movie/ the public that will watch it. My country don't produce a lot of animations, and without dubbing, I would not have had the opportunity to enjoy movies while growing up. Even today, I sometimes watch a movie dubbed and it's actually pretty good, at least where I live.

I have seen some dubbing that was horrible to the point of ruining the movie, but most of it was really good and fun to watch. Talking for myself, I always watch on the original language, but if well made, dubbing can be good as well. Maybe your country just don't have a good dubbing industry, idk.

God knows how many times I have seen this video. Hearing Quentin Tarantino’s voice talking about movies is a pleasure. He truly loves cinema. I can listen to him talk and analyze movies all day. I have known the meme “Damn” from Friday 1995 for years but had not watched the movie until I did a month ago. And damn the movie is so good it deserves higher rating.

@@sean2848 Depends on the order you experience the story. I watched the film first, so the novel and manga were so amazing afterwards because it fleshed out so much more of the story and characters. But I still appreciate the film for introducing me to the story in the first place. If you read the novel or manga before watching the film, then I understand it would probably feel a bit underwhelming. It really should have been a trilogy or even a TV series so they didn't have to rush it so much. A prequel film based on Shogo Kawada's first game would be especially awesome.

A Tarantino Sci Fi? That would be like Firefly wouldn't it? Like a space western. Or you could do a supernatural earth based Sci fi film. Maybe like a Signs movie where it's mostly suspense mixed with guns but they aren't shooting the aliens, they're shooting each other. Probably based in slave times and it's some racist white vs black cuz the slaves got some cool alien technology and the white owners are jealous.

I was very into korean films around 10 years ago and everyone of the mentioned I actually have in dvd. After the oscar won of Parasite people started to find them too and Memories of Murder and The Host is from the same director. JSA is Chan-Wook Park's whose done Oldboy (and multiple other great works like The Handmaiden and No Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance). If I would give another good examples then Chaser and I Saw The Devil are sooo good watches, just straight up adrenaline filled scenes and beautifully shot. Bittersweet Love is also one of my favorites, in that and I Saw The Devil is the same guy as the lead (and the same director). He is the actor who is found out to be the game-master in the Squid Game which it's kinda a revelation if into korean films. It fits really good because he actually can fight and does stunts so anyone who regocnized him would be like ok makes sense why he would have won the game 😅

@@adi_ridhwan there is too much to mention but The Wailing even tho yes I think it's very good I also think it got hyped up a bit too much for being so scary even tho the one obvious stand-out scene does give you chills. It's a good movie still. A Tale of Two Sisters was more so scary for me when I watched it and I just don't get scared easily by a movie. More like fun horror movie would be Train to Busan for example. Also yeah New World is worth of mentioning I have watched it couple times. The Yellow Sea, A Hard Day, Tunnel is good. Madeo also is by the Parasite director Bong Joon Ho (most propably would know him from Snowpiercer or Okja), his first movie Barking Dogs Never Bite is tonally very weard black comedy and worth of seeing if into him. Memories of Murder feels more like him solidifying his style but the Barking Dogs is still a good watch (I must say there is violence towards dogs since westeners are quite sensitive towards that so, just to say 😅).

I remember being a 9 year kid and my friend amazed that I never heard of the matrix. Ended up watching it at his house and that movie blew my mind. Dazed and confused was another I had no idea about and it was just randomly on tv one night when I was a teenager. You know you liked a movie when you remember where you were when you first watched it.
