He was more fluent in French than English. Je parle les deux langues et moi je comprends M. Horowitz mieux en français qu'en anglais!

@@steveweiser2792 Not quite. Tsar Nicholas (II) spoke English with his wife, and Russian with his children. But most of the Russian aristos indeed spoke French.

I'm French now. Vladimir pretty much says here what he said to every journalist... "The piano must SING even if it's a percussive instrument, even Bach" (I laugh so much at this one). He does not like actual (at times) artists who know the score but lack colors in their playing. He said he listens himself just once after a recording in order to stay fresh and not be influenced by himself. He said he played with French Debussy, Ravel, Fauré (insisting on Fauré) and Cortot in his young years and played a lot in Germany before war. He does not like to play with an orchestra anymore "I have my own orchestra here" and laughs (meaning his piano). "The conductors move their arms too much while they are not the ones who actually play the music". He said "20 years ago I was more wild and free in my playing, now I like to do a concert as a painting with a frame" (if you understand this image). He insists again on the beauty of the unknown 600 sonatas of Scarlatti. He said he doesn't care for new generations of artists coming after him because he will be dead and then he laughs. He said he must have the angel and the devil inside him in order to play, if the two leave he stops. He said Toscanini didn't like to work with stars but considered Horowitz as the man who plays the piano as it should be played. He said he played a lot of French music. He said he felt connected with the mystical thing of Scriabin. He said "I'm a bit old fashion". He said he likes French young pianist Jean-Philippe Collard who used to came at home and is "a good pianist". He said "I am not perfection". He said "Success for me is not applause, i'm scared of the applause, success is silence. when people don't cough and talk, just stay motionless and listen". End of translation _ Thank you. I must add that, in some way, I feel more than connected with Horowitz. You know, I arrived on this earth one month after his death and I remember everything. Thank you all for your interest and love for Music. I love you.
