Horowitz meets the President in the Oval Office one month prior to his concerts in Moscow and Leningrad.
Also present are Wanda Toscanini Horowitz, Arthur Hartman (US Ambassador to the Soviet Union) and his wife Donna Hartman, Charles Wick (Director of the United States Information Agency), and Peter Gelb.
(The first several seconds document President Reagan waiting patiently as photographers enter the Oval Office prior to the meeting with Horowitz).
For some background reporting about this event, read this article from TIME magazine (5 May 1986) posted by Hank Drake-Ferrer on The Cult of Vladimir Horowitz Fan Page on Facebook: photo.php?fb...

Well wouldn’t it be of the US and Russia? Even though Horowitz lived in the US for a long time I would still think of him as Russian

@@eweetor who cares, Ukraine was not independent or soveirgn rebublic during the time he lived there (Ukraine only became independent on 1991), it was part of the Russian Empire, he's a Russian-Jew, and there is a video of him where he acctualy spoke some Russian with a relative of his when he came to Moscow. He doesn't even speak Ukranian, which I technicaly consider to be a dialect or branch language of Russian language.

@@VadimGolovetskiy I hate to guess where you stand on other contemporary issues? But if it's really who cares, then good. Horowitz always proudly said he was from Kiev-even though he may have been born nearby .By the way Kiev predated Muscovy

Vladimir seemed relaxed, especially after having to listen to Reagan's corny dog story (I won't even mention the astrologer)

Horowitz was always himself. I also think, although he was humble, he was very conscious of who he was. He carried himself greatly.
