When I was a kid we used to joke that there would be no USA without John Wayne since he fought for her in every war. My Dad was USMC WWII on Iwo so of course we watched Sands of Iwo. Lost him in 2018 still a die hard John Wayne fan.

WOW!! Rob, my brother was a “bull hauler” as well as my Dad. I sent this to my brother as John Wayne is his actor! As kids Dad hauled into Kansas City or St Joseph (St Joe) stockyards and we’d go along… no seatbelts (‘50’s) and I always had to straddle the gearshift. 😁 We lived in Kansas. Once when I was going back to college in southern Missouri I made the wrong turn and headed to St Joe, when I saw my error I finally turned around, went down to KC Stockyards and back out to “get my bearings” to head south like I was supposed to do. I knew the way! Truly a truckers dream for John Wayne museum in the Stockyards, believe me many a trucker loved John Wayne. I have no doubt my brother will be planning a trip to Texas. Thanks for this interview. Sammy Davis Jr was a real talented character actor. He did an episode in The Rifleman where he did all kinds of gun stunts … he was a master at use of the gun. An infectious personality. 🤠

If John Wayne were in fact every American's ideal whose image every citizen strove to live up to instead of just half of us, this would be a much better country. A near paradise in fact. And the fact that that image yet exists and is still admired by so many makes this a better place than it would be without it, and for that reason we all owe him an immeasurable debt impossible to repay.

Fantastic video. I am amazed at what Ethan Wayne did to honor his father. The museum looks like a great place to visit. I have seen a lot of John Wayne’s movies. Two of them are amongst my favorite movies. Those two are Stagecoach and the Searchers. I have seen and enjoyed his movie The Alamo. It is nice to know that there is a place that keeps his legacy alive. Thanks Rob for doing this video.

John Wayne received the two highest awards an American civilian can earn, the Congressional Gold Medal, presented a month after his passing, and a year later the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor a civilian can receive in America. With regard to the Congressional Gold Medal, I think Maureen O'Hara said it best when she spoke with deep respect and emotion before Congress shortly before the Duke's death, asking for its authorization. "To the people of the world John Wayne is not just an actor, and a very fine actor; John Wayne is the United States of America. And I feel that the medal should just say one thing, 'John Wayne, American’."

John Wayne's appeal is unsurpassed. A visit to one of my friends living room here in Santa Fe will attest to that. He has a good size portrait of "Duke" done in charcoal hanging over his fire place. He wanted it because it reminded him of the black & white movies. He out bid many others at a local fund raiser. It's incredible. He's a local Latino or as he says, I'm just a 'Chicano' . Duke, is a true legend to ALL Americans. Gotta stop in Cow Town & take a look at this. Always adds on RFD-TV for it. Thanks Rob. Really great. I did not know that about the books being post production/release. My uncle George was at Iwo Jima & Midway and, my Father in law Bill was at D-Day. "The Longest Day' , another Duke movie.. Enjoy Memorial Day we remember with reverence for those who fought and did not return... God Bless America.

Great vid, Rob. Every time I see one of your vids I learn something new. As an aside, did you ever see the pic of The Duke and Lee Oswald? John Wayne had dropped in for lunch with the officers of Oswald's Marine Company (on exercises from Japan) during a break in the filming of "The Barbarian And The Geisha" at Corregidor in January, 1958. Oswald is behind The Duke in the doorway doing mess hall duties. Talk about 2 people at the opposite ends of the spectrum!
