When I watch old videos of Moe, there are some videos of Moe Norman that help me visualize his golf swing the best. This particular video is the one that watch most often.
Moe's feelings are a treasure trove of great information. Comments like "I roll my ankles", "Buckle Sit Slide Bump" and "My hands never go around me" are tidbits of invaluable information.
Even though the quality of the video is not good, this particular footage helps me see his timing, tempo and technique.

About the Single Plane Golf Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

as a young 14 years old teenager I caddied for a golfer from Alberta in the Quebec open in 67 or 68. one day I was in the same group as Moe and it was amazing to see him play. He was playing fast, was able to put a lot of spin, sometime he was hitting and not even looking where the ball was going because he knew he hit a good one. Of course he was a special golfer and human being but a treat for me to watch. He was friendly with caddies. I saw also Georges Knudson on the range also a very good ball striker. Good memories

I am self taught, never had a pro lesson but played lots of sports. I could break 100 but was stuck in the 90’s for 25 yrs. Ran in to back trouble and it got so bad I had zero confidence with a club in my hand. Wouldn’t even carry a driver in my bag. I was faced with quitting or learning properly once and for all. Took Graves golf academy online lessons. Watched every video I could of Moe. Spent a whole winter indoor golf completely rebuilding my whole swing from the ground up or as Todd and Moe would say, from the Impact position. With solid striking came added confidence. Summer came and I got to play a difficult private course. Shot 79 first time breaking 80. Week later shot 81 same track. Next game hit two flag sticks in the round shot 83 different track. Never been happier. Driver is now my confidence club and I can call my shot. Still need to improve with putter and short game but My appreciation level for Moe and Todd’s life quest to teach his rhythm man is out of this world honestly!

Moe gave me the confidence to use the baseball grip. I felt so uncomfortable using the “official golf grip” and was struggling. It took a few years starting in my late 40s to get down to a 2 handicap. I hit 500 balls a day in my apartment until I perfected my swing. I Thank moe for that.

I’ve always used a baseball grip. It’s the most comfortable grip for me. If I can somewhat hit the ball straight like Moe did and sacrifice distance, then I’m all in. I’m mostly a player that’s inconsistent and I really want to change that. Thank you for sharing these videos.

Like any great "artist", Moe was little known during his lifetime, (outside of golf circles) despite his ball-striking prowess. Thanks for maintaining his legacy and perpetuating the best golf swing ever. I use it every game and I would NEVER go back to conventional as my back would never allow it.

“Buckle” is his right knee bending on the way back. It created a stable post to rotate (away from the ball) around. He would then “Sit” into his downswing (his transition). Then he would “Slide” into the ball, which was his upper body rotating through the ball. He felt it as a lateral slide, but really it was just due to rotation. “Bump” was simply impact.

I first saw footage of moe 2 years ago. His ball striking was superb and i immediately set out to replicate it. Many fittings later, and totally forgetting about moe, and where i got mt swing from. i am now shooting low 80s on one of the hardest courses in my state. Moe, im glad i found you again. Youre going to make par with me. Like you have with so many other folks carrying your tradition.

Wow, low 80s on a really difficult golf course puts you in the upper echelons of golf elite. ⛳️ Have you ever played Pinehurst #2? That course looks easy. And by the time you walk off #1 green, you realize you're in for a very very very long day. It's a brutal test of golf and difficult for even top amateurs to break 100 there. Donald Ross is the man!!!

I think my favorite part of these old videos is just listening to the audience members in the background. Eventually there is always one person after 20 or so balls that you will hear laugh from amazement and disbelief. Would have been awesome to see one of Moe’s demos in person.

So there’s this golfer named Marco Aref who might actually be the second coming of Moe. His swing just naturally looks just like him. He absolutely stripes it and quite similar to Moe, he hits roughly 600 balls per day. Currently the top ranked amateur in Canada and only getting better by the day. Keep a look out for him Todd, he really is something special. Thanks for posting!

Yup. Heard about him the other day on the course. People were saying he is the next Canadian Golf icon with Moe. Moe would have been happy to see someone falling in his footsteps. Deff a name to keep an eye out for.

I have trained myself to swing this way . I studied and copied many others. His method is stupidly easy . My son is a strong boy starting golf .This method is easy to teach and spares your back . Once it clicks in ,you wonder why you struggled for thirty years

I think it's important whenever Watching his videos is to try and listen to the SOUND of the contact. Solid contact has a certain sound and every single one of them have that sound.

I've had numerous lessons and changed my swing , grip , posture everything and I was still failing all the time , chunks thins slices hooks and I was about to quit !! I watched moe norman on KZfaq and I went to the range and tried his swing today and honestly I left the range with a massive smile on my face ! I was hitting the ball straight constantly I am going to continue with this swing and fine tune it I honestly couldn't believe how easy it was ! I'm tall like 6 foot 2 so having my stance wider really helps me ! Cheers moe norman you legend r.i.p 🙏

Todd I've watched hours of Moe and your analysis and videos as well. I know that Moe's descriptions of his swing were not always consistent with what was actually occurring. You've even made reference to this in some of your videos. My point here is that if you stood where Moe says to stand in that video he'd hit you in the head without a doubt. Moe always released to the left and brought the club back to straight in his final follow through. His "pulling the flag stick" move were after he released to the left. Regardless, the man was an absolute genius with a golf club in his hands. I'll continue to get as close as I can until I can no longer play the game. PS: Your videos and Plane Talk are priceless. One day I hope I'm fortunate enough to attend a school.

@@ToddGravesGolf Todd, would I be correct in thinking Moe directs his hands low-left into impact? His follow through amazes me, it's better than anyone else. Most follow throughs are where the arms go up, behind, and over the left shoulder, but Moe's arms finish more in front of him pointing at the target. I'm still trying to figure out how he does that, it's so perfect.

Remarcable man, never heard bout him before this year. I’m 62 and started golfing couple of years ago by all it means to start in such high age. This swing is far more handable to me, not saying I can do it yet. But it works much better than standard swing for me. And direction getting better🤠 It’s not so esthetic maybe and so what. It is much more funny hitting more good shots than less…

I've been practicing the single plane and must admit it's the real deal. Now, I must admit my swing isn't the ideal single-plane swing because I haven't gotten used to the setup. The setup is uncomfortable and awkward, yet, it will allow me to repeat a feel of striking the ball better. Over time with more practice, I do think I'll fully adapt to the single-plane swing and play better golf. Thanks for your hard work putting these instructional videos together.

51 years of golf with scoliosis, a sub-par golfer, has forced me to "recover" from injury at least 30 times. Moe and Bruce Lee helped me build the One Plane Swing that allows me to hit the ball 400 yds. Circumstance keeps me away from the course today, but it's not me... it's just bad luck. Last time out I was around 330 yds, and 2 under on the par 3s. I don't need 3 months to get my game back any more. It's back on the 1st hole.

Does he say “I feel like I am going to take a s..t on the downswing like sitting on a toilet?!” Saw him do a demo with you at orange national during one of your first schools and golf tournament. Was incredible; not sure if I took any video but never been able to find it although always looking. Played on team with billy golden who was a character himself believe I told u we normally paid him with a bottle or two. Full disclosure it may have still been a NG school. We came in first or second which is still the highlight of golf career although we likely only used a shot or two of mine.

What you can’t tell is the size of Moe Norman’s hands. Because he had custom extended grips it is very hard to see. On a conventional grip it is very noticeable. Like Mr Hogan, Norm kept his left arm close to the left breast pocket … never locked his legs and followed through down his target line …

Did Moe use the 10 finger grip later in life to help him square the clubface easier. I am right handed. With my right hand I have tried 1 finger on the club and 2 on the club, then overlap and then all fingers on the club. It seems as I put more fingers on the club, one at a time, that each time I add a finger on the club the face squares just a bit more each time. Oh yeah I watch all of the older videos you do, learn a bunch, thanks Todd!

@Todd - 2:38 - The main thing that stood out immediately was when Moe said, "My wrists are never twisting!" This reminds me very much of what Steve Stricker does as well. One of the straightest hitters of the ball on the Chmapions Tour. Steve is tearing up that tour. AND FINALLY I got what Moe meant by, "I swing THROUGH the golf course, NEVER around it." Meaning, his hands are always pointing down the fairway or towards the target when he's finished.

Just remember that is a feeling, not reality. His hands do turn over each other and he turns it back up at the end with a little flourish. His head does move, he just doesn't feel like it does.

@@jasonkelley6185 exactly. Nothing against Moe, he certainly knew his swing but I've heard him say things then saw videos and he did some of the things he said he didn't. I've copied some of his ideas because I think they're valid though it's still not my day job. :) He is right about the wrist movement but it also limits distance, it's why tour players aren't using that type of swing. Quarterbacks need to use wrist movement to get stronger throws and there are other examples of how no wrist movement would limit power but I'm rambling.

Seems like Moe Norman and the Graves golf technique helps to eliminate the "Paralysis by Analysis" mental blocks. Don't think about too much. Just strike the ball.

Todd, Just like Hogan, John Schlee and other gifted athletes, Moe's short backswing is re-routed, ie. shallowed at the top (his magic vertical drop move). For the average middle age recreational player who naturally has an over the top move, would not learning to do this be a virtually impossible task?

Wrist turning is habit, u have to practice by yourself, so each shot is you discipline to yourself, keep wrist from moving. A bowling glove, And start with swings 20% back, lock wrist whole time, then 30,40,50, all short swings, don't matter yet where ball goes, just training wrist new habit, long practice sessions will do it quicker, in no time, you'll have new habits.

Yeah, I never could square the club face with a traditional grip. Instructors wanted hand roll and I just hung onto the club and came into impact with the face open. This grip of Moe's is so easy to do and I never had to really alter the feeling cause it was basically the same.

Here’s the thing. Moe was a professional golfer. Pros in most sports make what they do look incredibly simple, even when insanely hard. Is Moe’s swing the solution to golf for an average athlete? I assume that it’s about as hard to copy Moe as it would be to copy Nicklaus. I saw Nicklaus give a clinic once, and guess what? He hit every ball as clean as Moe, put every shot exactly where he said he would, and made it look really simple.

Funny, the guy has to see his club, "It's that easy?" Knowing how much he has struggled starting golf at 40 years old. Inspecting so he can buy the same club and grip.
