NOTE: I MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A DAMAGED TIRE, BUT I AM NOT 100% CERTAIN. This is because this is what ‪@LiamQC‬ - the person who heard the chatter on the STM scanner feed - thought he heard. Also, it is based on the fact that other commuters here commented they heard a loud bang similar to a tire popping. Again, I am not sure 100% what happened.
In the early evening of Monday, July 15, 2024, AZUR metro train Set 63 had an unknown mechanical problem involving it's wheels - or a nearby location of the train - at McGill metro station on the Green Line of the Montreal Metro.
Thanks to fellow transit fan ‪@LiamQC‬ who notified me what was happening, I was able to arrive on time and film this amazing action.
I've never filmed an actual train breakdown at the location where it happened before, so this was pretty historical.
As you can see in the video, the train slowly left the station under very low power and, as mentioned by fellow transit fan ‪@MR-63‬, it was probably taken directly to the garage at the Youville Shops
The train was on the Honoré-Beaugrand direction platform.
Note that I did not witness the disruption, but I read on Twitter that some metro users heard a very loud bang near Guy Concordia metro station. This suggests that it was a blown tire, but as others have pointed out, this may not have been the case and it might have been another type of mechanical problem.
Also, I mentioned it might have been going to the Duvernay spur, but in fact the Duvernay spur is in the opposite direction towards Angrignon, the same platform I was standing on.
Normal metro service resumed not long after I wrapped up the video.
This video was filmed on Monday, July 15, 2024 starting at approximately 6:44 pm Eastern Canadian Time.
Remember you can see many more metro themed videos on my Montréal Métro playlist!
Thank you so much for watching!

Because Montreal official is so corrupted to buy from France their poorly invented rubber tyre technology. So basically this happens like each week. This rubbish technology keeps running speed low, with high noise, high repair rate, high replacement cost, high maintenance cost, high personnel cost and high disturbance. On top of that, they never announce anything in english so all tourist don’t know nothing and keep waiting, exploiting their trip.

The Montreal metro also has a set of steel wheels under the train. All of the switching is done using those steel wheels. In an emergency, they can be used to get the metro back to the depot.

I don't think the flat tire is the problem. The wheels are designed to "fall" onto the tracks (if they lose support from the rest of the bogie) using the steel rim used for the brakes. I was in Paris with the same cars and they sometimes "fall" onto the rails when certain construction works is being done on the roadway for the tires.
@Asakha1

The problem is if the tire is flat, it can get out of the rim and cause much more problem, hence why there's a guy at the open door to keep an eye on the tire.

STM is so unreliable nowadays. It’s a closed circuit train and they can’t even run it on schedule. Platform says 5 minutes, 5 minutes passed and nth happens. Then the platform display 5 minutes again. No show train is utterly unacceptable. As a matter of fact 5 minutes delay compare to Japan it’s already classified moderately serious delay.

You're obviously not from Montreal to say this is RARE. lol! Every time I take the Metro there's a stoppage or a slowdown, for multiple reasons. It no wonder people are mad. They are sick and tired of being late because of the Metro. We thought that it would get better with the implementation of the AZUR trains but unfortunately, things didn't really change that much. Plus now, the Metro is probably one of the least safe place in Montreal.

@andrewweitzman4006

Same like a car: debris on the rollway, hot spot, wearing down, etc. It's a known risk, which is why there are conventional tracks between the rollways that interact with steel train wheels on the axle to catch the train when a tire blows. The rubber tire system imported from Paris was used because at the time the tires offered better acceleration and far better climbing performance on steep grades (when dealing with the elevation changes up and down the Falaise and up the shoulders of Mount Royal).
