Seeing these photos reminds me of a trip my family took 2 yrs ago to a ghost town in California named Bodie. It was a boom town in the 1870’s after gold was located in the hills surrounding the town and is located in a desert at abt 8,000 ft in elevation. Most of the town burnt down in two separate fires, leaving only 250 buildings remaining and causing them to have to rebuild the stamping mill twice. Bodie’s Main Street used to have an estimated 50 bars located on it, which resulted in many gunfights between miners. Since it’s located in a desert, conditions were harsh. Summer temps often reach into the triple digits, while winter temps can fall into the negatives. Due to these conditions, many people, especially young children would die from diseases such as scarlet fever and pneumonia. The town was eventually abandoned in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s when gold mining was deemed as unessential for war efforts. If you ever find yourself in California and want to visit a historical place, I would highly recommend visiting Bodie.

Interesting story/biography to read is that of Annie Oakley or “Little Sure Shot” as Sitting Bull called her. She was a strong and smart woman. You will enjoy the read.

Love to study the “Wild West”. I grew up watching westerns on tv. Reading as I have since then, I realize how much history they got wrong, left out completely, or embellished. Did you know that Seth Bullock was great friends with Teddy Roosevelt. When Seth died T.R. Erected a beautiful monument in his honor. Do you know what the “ dead man’s hand” was?? It was black aces and eights with disagreement on what fifth card was. I love history!, I think it is important to know where you have been to help prepare yourself for where you may be going. Do you know Doc Holliday gave up practice of dentistry? After caring for his mother he developed Tb like she had. At one point he was so bad he would up blood on his dental patients. You can imagine how quickly patients sought out another dentist!!

Lovely summary. The Wild West and Ancient Rome are my two favorite era. While most of the time i prefer written material I am an enormous fan of both tv series "Deadwood" and "Rome". While dramatic license was obviously taken at times they both did a great job of painting a more realistic picture of what it was actually like living in these times. We must look to the past to understand our present and future. The lessons are timeless. Best wishes and thanks for watching.

Others to read about are Bass Reeves (my favorite lawman), Tom Horn, Buffalo soldiers and Alan Pinkerton. All special in what they had to give and made a mark on history.

During research we do tried to weed out questionable sources and images. Doc Holliday is a great example. Many of his images online are unsupported. It’s often difficult with historical photos but we do our best to get it right. Thank you for your feedback and for recognizing our efforts at authenticity.

Aces over 8ts. was called dead man hand after Wild Bill Hicock was killed during a card game with 3 Aces & 2 eights in his hand..
@AmazingHistoricalPhotos
@AmazingHistoricalPhotos Жыл бұрын
General consensus is he certainly had 2 Aces and 2 Eights… The fifth card however no one seems to know so naturally people default to a third ace. Most of the research mentions possibly the J or Q of clubs. But it’s not reliable and we'll never know for sure. Mind you, if ever draw Aces & Eights, I’ll probably just fold as not to tempt fate !! :)

You need Bass Reeves on there the best Lawman that ever lived, and that's been proven.The real Lone Ranger he's what the Long Ranger was based off of cuz it was so close to his real life.

I have another idea for you. There's a documentary on the Dulas of North Carolina very close to where Tom Dula was hung for a mistaken murder.Tom is my second cousin four times removed. He is better known as Hang down your head Tom Dooley,but in folklore. It would be nice to do the story on him,and how he was recently found the innocent sadly long after they hung him in 1868.

Billy the Kid photo is WRONG! He was right handed, not left.
@AmazingHistoricalPhotos
@AmazingHistoricalPhotos Жыл бұрын
The picture is the correct original done using a process at the time called ferrotype which reversed the images. People did think he was left handed for a while. However Dedrick Ferrotype himself and several historians have since corroborated he was right handed. The photo is right and wrong in a way. It is the original, just using a process that tricked the eye.

@@gregrambo606 Thank you for your feedback. Glad you enjoyed the video and music. You are exactly correct. Henry McCarty was his name at birth, Bonney was the pseudonym he went by. I only really had room for one of the two other names and basically tossed a coin… lol But, I would imagine very few people would have ever known him as McCarty.
