You can buy an 8x11 fresnel lense in the dollar tree in the school and stationary aisle. It is usually next to the rulers and scissors. You can't beat 1.25 for a waterproof firestarter that weighs nothing.

When you mentioned panty hose, I thought of pre filtering water, but years ago, one of my medics was chosen for the ski patrol at the military resort in Germany. He said they were used as the base layer. He said it took a few days before he and most of the others tried them, but when they did, they were convinced. No frozen "nads" and much warmer than expected. Just don't shave your legs first.

Back in the day we used tin foil to tune the TV station. Seems to me that a tin foil hat would be counterproductive. If you do not believe me hook a battery to a piece of tin foil and tell me what happens!
