One of the most underrated big men of his generation, Rasheed Wallace was the complete package and could offer both offense and defense, but having hair-trigger temper on the court and racking up the third most technicals of all time, has him better remembered for his words than his game over the years. But Rasheed Wallace was one of the winningest players of all time who played in 14 straight postseasons and made it to the conference finals in over half of those. He was a star high schooler who was mentioned in the same sentence as Wilt Chamberlain and would go on to play two stellar years for the North Carolina Tar Heels alongside another great NBA player in Jerry Stackhouse. He spent his rookie season on a Washington Bullets team featuring Chris Webber and Juwan Howard until being traded to Portland. And as a Trailblazer, Wallace was arguably the best player on some of the most complete teams Portland has ever put together alongside guys like Isaiah Rider, Damon Stoudamire, Arvydas Sabonis, Scottie Pippen and Steve Smith. He would help lead the team to back to back Western Conference Finals Appearances, but could never get over the hump. But in 2004, he would find his way to the Detroit Pistons with Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince and would provide them with the missing piece they needed to win the 2004 NBA Finals. The remainder of his time in Detroit would be filled with memorable playoff runs before he signed onto the Boston Celtics in 2010, retired for two years then briefly came back with The New York Knicks in 2013. But throughout all those years, Rasheed Wallace was a catalyst to every team's playoff success.

PF in the 2000s was really strong. Dirk, KG, Duncan, Weber, Amare, Martin, Bosh, Rasheed, Jermaine O'Neal, Aldridge, Randolph, Pau Gasol, Odom, etc. The 2000s were truly the golden age of PF.

@astrowerm even though AI is ranked among the top 30-40 players all-time, he wasn't the leader Chauncey was. I know that AI led his team to the finals once, but I think that year was the only year in his career that he's played in the conference finals. Chauncey played in seven conference finals; six in Detroit, one in Denver.

He was good as all those guys. Man was by far the best player on all the teams he was on til he left Detroit. The fact Brian Grant ever started over him shows just how biased coaches back then were in playing young players. Pace of all the teams he was on definitely hurt his points and rebounding numbers. Only reason numbers weren’t the greatest in offense in Detroit was to spread the floor with his 3 point shooting since Ben was just taking up space down there on the offensive end. He was known at the time to be the most skilled big man in the post but his ability to shoot from which 99% of the league lacked man sacrificed his game to make his teammates better so they could win.

I thought Sheed was better than Duncan while at UNC and in his early years in the league. Later in his career, he was an undisciplined shooter. Always great in the playoffs, and entertaining to watch.

Massively underrated player but one correction. He all of people did NOT actually receive any punishment for the Malice At The Palace (no fine, no suspension, nothing). He suited up next game vs Bobcats normally.

I was a hardcore Blazers fan back in the day, during the shortened season, i believe 99, i went and saw them play a number of times, and Sheed was my fav player! He was unstoppable, but just never felt comfortable being the go-to guy, and you could see it. And unfortunately Dunleavy, and his teammates, just never realized how great he was. That 4th quarter collapse against the Lakers in 2000, to this day it infuriates me how he barely touched the ball, and instead we had ancient ass Pippen dribbling around missing shots, or Damon launching threes, or Steve Smith launching ill-advised shots. Our last bucket came off of Pippen driving and missing which then Sheed got a tip-in dunk off of. But because he was never the "gimme the ball" kind of guy, he far too often would fade into the background offensively. What both he, and more importantly that team, needed was somebody to be like, "listen Scottie, Damon, Steve, you guys are good, but Sheed's next level right now and score much easier than any of you - so I'm sorry, but in big games we're getting him as many touches in the post or off of a pick and pop as possible." Even Robert Horry said the same damn thing not to long ago, bout how he was stunned how Sheed wasn't getting 50 touches a game like Shaq was getting, uz that's the level he was on - in terms of how unstoppable he was in the post. Everyone talks about his outside shooting, nah - his post game was where he was elite.

Yesss! Thank you for this one. Easily one of my favorites growing up.. I know Timmy was held to a high regard, but I think between Sheed, KG and CWebb were among the best pf in that era. The Jail Blazers was a team that I thought were gonna win or 2 back then.

What i always loved about ' Sheed is that he was a team guy FIRST. He didn't care about stats, just contributions and wins.He is arguably the 2nd most talented PF ever. Only Derrick Coleman was more talented.I LOVE Tim Duncan , Karl Malone and Chris Webber who are the only other PFs that need to be mentioned in this conversation.If ' Sheed wanted to be an all time great PF he could've been.

Boy if the blazers would have got Steve Smith and Pippen in 98-99 season, they definitely would have beaten the spurs and the Knicks in the finals then Pippen would have had seven chips, because that next year Lakers closed in and they should have beaten them then instead of letting them come back from I think fifteen down,that definitely would have been good for Pippen, now we gotta hear how he couldn't win without Jordan and how much he hated him!

Sheed was ahead of his time and also one of the most talented players to play the game. Unfortunately he had anger mgt issues and also wasn't that dedicated to basketball but man was he talented. He was basically the unicorn everyone is chasing now with Wemby, Chet, Bolbol, Mobley etc just an athletic PF/C who can defend the paint, keep up with forwards, score in the post and also spot up for 3s.

I always say sheed and kg were the best pfs of the 2000s. Duncan had the perfect situation so he didn't have to carry a franchise but still great. Sheed and kg were naturally athletic, intelligent, aggressive with charisma. I look at more than stats.. they had impact too with lesser talented teammates

Everybody "who was there" knows it was TD/KG/CWebb/Sheed as the best PFs in the league. Sheed ALWAYS said he didn't focus on counting stats. As a lifelong Heels fan, I hated that because I knew it would put him "here". Where these types of videos would be made to inform the multitude of casuals, the true impact of his game/skill level. If Sheed cared about numbers, other than wins. . .EASILY 25 and 12 guy.
