@@Biffo316 depends on his definition of abuse. All players get abused because some people are awful. Maybe Rashford gets it worse because man utd fans are angry this season, and he's been particularly bad, but I see other underperforming players getting criticised just as much, e.g. Onana, Anthony, and last the last couple of years it was Maguire and McFred, they got ridiculed by home and away fans. Maguire got cheerd every time he touched the ball by opposition fans, what could be more humiliating? He got his head down and he's been out best defender all season. Onana had a rough start but has been better since January, he turned it around. Maybe Rashford should get off social media and focus on his job. Stop using a minority of badly behaved fans as a smokescreen to ignore all legitimate criticism. Same mentality as Sancho, blaming everyone else.

Rashford had got literally zero self-awareness. Comes out with a PR piece when media were questioning his commitment to the club, but he never adressed the root problem of it all. He is one of the very top earners and he couldn't be arsed to put in a shift, and its sad because he is a manchester lad born and bred. I actually kind of feel bad for Marcus. He clearly hasn't got the mental strength to handle performance at the highest level, and now that he's on such an insane wage, the level of expectation is even higher. It sounds like he needs to take a break from football to work with professionals to develop his mental strength and character. The club would never allow that, and so he's stuck in a downward spiral of mental weakness leading to worse performances, which then leads to further mental weakness, etc. Then add the kind of things people post on social media, and he's never going to find consistent form from the right headspace until his mental strength is developed. If he really is just being lazy and can't be arsed, that's different, but players don't get into football because they can't really be arsed with it. Bench him, rest him, do something to get his head together in the long term. Playing him every match and watching him repeat the same terrible performances isn't working.

So to take that out on Rashford just because he's having a moment of humanity seems more than a little unfair IMO.

Personally I think Marcus should leave, not because I have anything against him, but I think it will be good to get a fresh start and get away from some of this toxicity. The bottom line is we are shit at the moment and the whole team is underperforming, but I will never abuse a player that plays for the club. People abusing players seems to be normal for many fans…and it doesn’t help matters…. So called fans booing players and like is just distasteful to me…..maybe it’s the modern way and I’m an old timer. Criticism is OK but abuse is not on - it’s not befitting of the club I’ve supported for over 50 years.

Marcus became a target for hate when he did the school dinners thing. That's when I noticed a massive uptick of Rashford haters. They had to shut up last season when Marcus was being called one of the best in the world by media and Real Madrid were sniffing around. Now he is struggling for form the haters have emerged from under their rocks. Life is too short to be a hater (I am 54, so I know).

Re Dan Ashworth, I think Newcastle have added a zero (i.e. x10) onto what would be a sensible fee because it's ManU. As for Marcus, whatever it is that's bothering him, he needs support and encouragement to get his mojo back. A player can hit a bad patch, it happens. He nearly scored a stunning goal against Sheffield.

Some might be unfounded abuse and that's unfair, the majority for me are not happy for 1 reason. He had a pretty good season last year and put in a shift and looked positive. This season the problem is he's on a massive amount of money, especially in this day and age and there's no go in him, its like he's morphed into Martial overnight, he is now for me a senior United player whos come through the ranks and should be setting an example both on and off the pitch like your Giggs, Scholes, Nevelle's and Butts. The backlash comes from the fact that its a huge majority of working class people paying a fortune to watch him play, if they don't perform week in week out they are down the road out of a job, Rashford will earn more in a year than they will in a lifetime. Rashford needs to get his head down, do the bizz and silence all of this on the pitch and i hope he does!!!

I've had more than my fair share to say on Rashford, but I've always kept it football and ability related. Unfortunately though, it's hard to look past a player who might earn over 300,000 a week at the club and have so little impact on top of looking completely uninterested and lazy. He won't be the player people have made him out to be. He needs to go.

Ask Beckham how you handle abuse about your game and personal life. I’ve heard beckham accused of all sorts but lack of desire was never one of them. It’s amazing how a good season has these modern players paid extraordinary money but seasons of sub standard output cannot be met with criticism? A lot of these players think once you have ‘Manchester United player’ in their bio they have arrived, it was never like that

There are always over-the-top comments for every player, but mate. 8 goals, 5 assists in 40 games in every competition, and the club paid 300k-350k weekly for that? He is not even a traditional winger who bangs the ball in the box and occasionally lures in the far post for a goal. Let's not even talk about how he failed to create spaces for teammates and slow the pace of attack or how ETH gave him so many chances to pick up the form. To be frank, what Maguire experienced was obviously abuse globally. Is Rashford being abused massively, tho.
@Account_CB
@Account_CB 10 күн бұрын
There is a different between criticism & abuse. The best way to distinguish between the two, is for example most of us watch the game & say he's jogging, he's not crossing, where's his effort, why is he taking another crazy shot, why isnt he tracking back, where's his focus, passion, he's not doing enough - maybe we look to sell him or drop him, why is he tweeting at midnight, or going out drinking impacting turning up for training...etc etc...all this is fair CRITICISM because he isn't currently peforming as we know he can do & he is paid well to do & on top of this all of these things are words ETH & coaching should be saying...so thats the line where criticism is fair. Its different when we ask whether the coaches or ETH are saying this to him...& therein lies a different & probably worse problem IF the coaches are not criticising him. The abuse are things like racism, name calling ... where, how, who or what he spends his money on....none of that is necessary, its personal attacks & not performance or professionalism. related. Rashford unfortunately seems to have fallen into the zone of blurring the lines between true & fair critique from fans who want to see the team winning & thus him doing well vs abuse. It appears his mental state or those who advise him is a source of his lost focus but only he & the coaches, if they are being honest with him, can resolve this...but first he has to accept he needs guidance & accept he needs to alter his game per whatever ETH or the coaches want....if he cannot or wont do this then Utd is not the club for him & tbf how many other top clubs wouldn't ask the same as a bare minimum prerequisite? All this to say he should look at the examples of Maguire & Mctominay they too have suffered major criticism for how theyve played & abuse (although little or no racism at all), however both have refocused & adapted as per the coaching. Maguire has arguably has his most stable season at Utd & he is getting plaudits for showing his effort, character & leadership even though he isn't or knows he will never be 1st choice. With Mctominay..he has professionally accepted a teenager is keeping him out of the side & benching him...yet he supports from the side & accepts being put on for 10/20mins to get us a goal & this season has from a goal scoring point of view won us games. Rashford needs to speak with the clubs pyschologists because even they would see his response with a eyebrow raise... When he says things like 'he's done' & responds past midnight whether its him or his team...if he doesnt see the club will be harmed by that too then really he has mentality & professionalism concerns & as i say only he & the club have to have the willingness to find solutions. One thing he needs to realise is he will never stop fans criticising him or others for poor performance or attitude on the pitch.

There comes a point when the fans go enough is enough with players and with Marcus it’s been coming long before the semi final and he has had a bit of leeway being a home grown local lad but that has also worn off now as well we are fed up with a player we know can be unstoppable on the pitch showing complete lack of desire in games the constant walking not tracking back and not doing anything to influence or change a game and it’s enough now the minimum we expect from every player is to give 100% every single game and with Marcus what not seen what looks like 50% effort recently I honestly can’t remember the last time he knocked a ball past a player and best him with pace and power nowadays he tries tricks that don’t work and loses far to many duals on the pitch but what bugs me most is he lack of appetite to get involved pulls out of tackles and goes half hearted in for high balls

His mind clearly isn’t quite right these days. He needs help, not abuse. The fans could help him by just dialing things back, and then the club can help him by getting to the root of some of his problems, whatever that is. And yes, he CAN help himself by making better choices at times, but that’s easier said than done when you’re not feeling well (in whatever way), which he clearly isn’t.
