Very solid points from Rashida Jones. One counter-point for Sam though: it's not to be fearless, which implies the lack of fear; it's about going on while keeping all the fear around you. Fear is good, just don't let it stop you.

I appreciate that perspective. Though "fearless" doesn't have to mean absence of fear. It could mean just what you described: moving forward in spite of the fear, yes?

I like Rashida....she is a beauty.....but I just have always despised "second generation" famous people. It's just soooo incredibly unfair. Being the daughter of Quincy Jones clearly brought with it advantages that any normal actor/comedian couldn't dream of getting. Just the number of famous people she grew up around.....agents, publicists, marketing people that she had access to simply because of her father and mother. Not to mention the fact that she hasn't had to worry about bills or rent or "making ends meet" her entire life......nepotism run a muck. I wish just once a second generation famous person would be honest and say,..... "look, I've had it very easy all my life (at least financially) and haven't had to struggle like normal people. I used my parents' wealth and connections in Hollywood to land acting roles that I probably would not have landed without them."

She's so cool. I think her real personality was really well portrayed in her character in The Office.

It's fascinating that she says his success is liberating, and the bar is set so high that it gives her freedom to follow her own path. You'd naturally assume his shadow would be suffocating... But it's nice that you saw her own triumphs in their own right (until I ruined that innocence with my reply!)

C.A. Well, I actually only knew her from my favorite show everrrr... Parks and Recreation but yes, I totally get what you're saying. I judged her from her and not from anything else.

Exactly. Most of "their" struggle is one of self invention. For example, why does Rashida need to outshine her parents in anything? She doesn't and nobody ever expected that of her, anyway. That obligation is completely made up and irrelevant to her own personal goals. Also, she's an actor who made it before she even made it. Definitely, she's talented but let's be honest....there is no real "struggle" and wealthy people should count their blessings in that regard.

I don't know if this counts as some kind of compliment, but I had no idea Rashida was Quincey's kid, and while obviously that helped a lot, I would guess that most people didn't tune in to PnR because "Quincey's kid's on that white ass sit com about how the government is actually not that bad, we should watch that."
