I'm still wondering how it's possible that this thing is sold without a heatsink, and maybe even a small active fan. If you really need to run some demanding workloads, the temperature will go absolutely bonkers, around 90 °C, and the machine will clock down to around 1.0 Ghz. There have been multiple tests that confirm that. So invest the... idk, 10 bucks or so, and get one of the cooling solutions that are already on the market.

GeoStreber it doesn't come with it so that the user can choose from multiple options without receiving parts that are destined for the landfill. Same reason it doesn't come with a case.

@@RichardBronosky I disagree, since this massive throttling without heatsink makes the machine de-facto unusable in my opinion. A RasPi will work perfectly without a case. It will not suffer any performance or functionality issues. However the RasPi 4 will suffer without a heatsink. Both in terms of performance, and also likely in terms of lifetime, if not properly cooled. 85 to 90 °C will damage that SoC over time.

It's 80c that it throttles. A quick way to check if the pi is throttling is to look at the top right corner, where you should see a thermometer icon flashing indicating it's clocked itself down. Similarly, you'll see a lightning bolt icon if your pi isn't receiving enough power and is throttling due to a lack of voltage.

I am going to make myself a secondary cheapo NAS/Plex Direct Play server, using the 1GB version, OpenMediaVault and two NAS HDDs with something like powered Unitek USB 3.0 to SATA adapters. I have seen another video about that kind of scenario and I am fairly impressed about the transfer speeds that got multiplied by 10 thanks to the new USB 3.0 ports. I am liking the direction the Pi is taking so far!

I have a couple phone chargers that output 5v 3a.

@@skiwithpete common for the era of Nexus and first gen Pixel, plus most higher amp chargers will support 3a, even if they can do more.

Hey skiwithpete it seems you have a connection in some way with 1up keyboards and I was just wondering (if you know) when the black carbon fiber 60% back plates would be restocked

Hey, yeah. I'm the owner. The order for more of those plates had been placed. In fact, it was a while ago. Should be in, in a week or two. Sign up to the newsletter, and we'll notify.

I want to run Raspbian GUI, then run Kodi on top and open a KZfaq (TV Mode) on a browser, then Switch between the two. I tried this on a RBpi 3 and it just cant handle it. Do you think a RBpi 4GB could do it? (The reason to do this is because I don't like KZfaq app for Kodi)

I haven't tried, but that seems like a fun project.

hi what is the difference between a camera ribbon and a usb camera ?
@izaicslinux6961
@izaicslinux6961 5 жыл бұрын
The camera ribbon is officially supported and is cheap. It can also be easier to implement into projects since it's basically just a bare lens and a small ribbon.

No USB-C charger outputs 1amp.

USB A to C cables are recommended. As C to C causes the problems.
@izaicslinux6961

@@skiwithpete It's actually recommended that you use the official usb-c charger so the pi has plenty of power. The issue is also really not as bad as people have claimed, as it's only the usb-c smart chargers for computers such as the MacBook that pose an issue (because of a resistor they placed in the design which confuses the smart chargers and makes them not offer enough power to use the pi). Most usb-c chargers out there are still "dumb", and there's actually alot of products out there that have made the same mistake in their usb-c implimentation.

Does it occurs to you that the 5V 3A is to serve a higher power output? It's simple maths. It's beyond incredulity when it is implied that how a designer will change a port just for the sake of change, or to imply that all "hackers" only use 1A cables like you. I'm not a hacker, but even i have a few different cables on hand to meet different needs in my workshop. It's like the usb-c changes situation on Apple products all over again. People don't like changes. They'll scream and shout when changes are imposed on them. They want to stay in their own cocoon. It's sad how even "hackers" has such mentality.

No, I understand it. But do you understand that requiring special adapters and specific equipment means that the audience for this becomes more limited? That's my point,
