we did that on purpose because before it was default GB. Not everyone is in GB, so now we set it up to ask you what region you were in for your WLAN code. Also, we found out that perhaps one of the wifi channels used by the GB locale is illegal in the US. Good catch though, as this video was made well before that setting was changed.

Yes and No. The barebones image was built on a pi4, so it won’t work on any other pi. The Sinden guns work on a pi3 just fine, but you have to setup the emulators yourself.

Do you know of any other programs that will have the emulators all ready configured for the sinden light gun?

yeah, it means the gun can't see the border, or you're too close, or holding the wrong gun when you're pointing it at the screen.

The borders only show up if the rom matches the config file. Check the part of this video where I go over the naming convention of roms. If the name is good and matches the config then you might to see if your tv is cutting it off, use the zoom / screen fit or other options, or you can try changing the overscan values in the config.txt file also shown in the video.

Check the description for the compatibility list. Your rom might need a chd file. If that don’t work jump on the discord and ask in the raspberry pi help channel.

I’m not able to replicate those issues. I’d say jump on the discord server and go into the raspberry pi channel ask what the issue might be.

BB9 has borders configured in override files for each game. You’d have to edit each games override file manually and remove the border Supermodel doesn’t have the borders because it doesn’t currently support them 😎

You would be the first with the issue of following this guide and powering up and nothing happens. All I can say is either try it again, or wait. Sometimes the first boot can take a bit while it expands the file system. If you got a small sd card like 32GB should be fast, if you working with a 100TB drive, you might be there a while 😎

@oleschoolgamers haha its all good after.. hours till late evening.. I got it all up and running, with lots of configuring and issues that discord people helped with it's up.. 😊 only thing I got left to do is place what ever it is i need onto the sd card to give me the rom files in barebones to actually add games

@@chill_kill18gaming86 yeah I saw. From what I could tell, apparently the sd card wasn't formatted properly, your wifi / keyboard was giving you issues and unfortunately my video didn't go over the tool used "winscp", apologies. Glad you got everything working though!

Thanks! Yeah the splash screen folder holds the images you want during boot up. Currently set to the Pac-Man themed BB9, but you can add in there whatever image you like.

The Barebones image is created for Pi4 architecture specifically. But the Sinden lightguns will work on windows Pc or Unix machine running batocera for example as well. As long as the emulator you’re using supports mouse input as a Lightgun, which a lot already do.

Okay nvm i found it now my only issue is i can hear the shots out of my sinden gun but no reticle to aim or anything any solutions?

@@gebbyessencelightguns have to be able to see the border, and if the border is up, gotta make sure guns are started. If those two don’t work, jump on the discord and hit the folks up.

Good catch. This video was made a few days before the release of BB9 and we did a few tweaks. The jist is these 3 things: 1. Overscan is there if you need it for picture sizing. 2. Overclock if you want by following the video 3. BB9 is set to 720p by default, don’t change it to 1080p unless you wanna have a lot of work to do after 😎

@@oleschoolgamers Another "bug" report. Some folders are owned by root instead of pi user. Which prevents dragging roms in WinSCP nicely. I chmod 777 temporarily. (/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/pnp/Lightgun_Games) is one example

@@JayAvondoglio The first one wasn't a bug, just a difference really 😁. The permissions are already known about, we've been coding a few tweaks into a script to give the community for BB9.1 There's another folder (I think its c64 roms folder) that also needs the chmod fix. PS2 isn't playable, PS1 is about as high as you can go with the Pi4.

Kinda depends on if all arcade games are running that way, or only that one. If all arcade games are running that way, might be something that was changed in the setup of the emulator or gun software. If its just that game, might need to overclock your system. I've overclocked mine and I do get a little sputter here and there with A51MD, but its very playable and fun still.

@@oleschoolgamers is there a script to run to over clock it. when I try to over clock it says error can only over clock for pi 1 or pi 2. Thats as far as I get. any help would be great. thanks

Cheers worked for me just set it up and couldnt understand why couldnt shoot anything on screen in game yet the setup worked, then realised when u do the sinden accuracy test in settings it switchs the gun off so u need to restart again in settings before starting a game , now all is working

@@nbkicker7665 yeah the calibration / test screen is a one time thing. The reason it turns it off is so you can start the gun with single shot, auto, recoil or not etc.

Great question. Pi5 does not have a compatible Retropie yet so Barebones can’t be built as of now. My recommendation is to go with batocera v40 when it drops soon 😎

The guns require the borders. If you disable the borders the gun has no way to detect the screen.

@@oleschoolgamers sorry, what I meant was disabling the bezels, not the borders. For instance when I play Terminator 2 Arcade, the bezels overlap the gamefield on the sides.

@@oleschoolgamers I managed to use a conversion to 4:3 aspect ratio by Widge, no more bezels :)

@@oleschoolgamers I figured this one out. I noticed that the scripts needed the user name to be "pi" and I had changed it in the options of the imager software. Everything seems to be working now but it took a while for me to get there.

You can draw any bezel however you like. If you’re using Barebones, the bezels are setup 16:9 due to the version of retroarch IIRC, previously the bezels were setup 4:3 for similar reason.

Indeed, I’ve just setup bb9.1 in preparation of receiving the guns! I can see I’ll have to modify the bezels myself then? Or is there a default one that will just wrap the 4:3 area of the game in the white border? Currently installing netatalk so I can see the files a bit easier from max without having to download everything 😂

Ok I think I’ve figured it out. There is still a default 4:3 border. I can add that to the fancy looking ones to form a border around “just” the screen area and keep the cool graphics. Hopefully it won’t get confused by two borders 😅

@@CrashExhibition yeah give it a try and see how it goes, if not switch it back. Barebones was setup so all you had to do add roms, it’s not meant for tweakers that wanna change up things. It’s very domino like, if you start changing things you may run into other side effects. It sounds like you’d have more fun creating you’re own image. Food for thought.

To make it work, you’d have to move your roms / bios files to BB9 image. The same way you move games into the pi would be how you pull them off, which is through winscp. If ya need more details or get stuck go to the discord channel and ask for help there. Hope it works out !

I used Linux Reader from DiskInternals to get the roms from another image and save them to Windows. I transfered the roms later by WINSCP to the BareBones.

The first to ports are usb 3.0 ports and allow more throughput and will have little to no frames dropped. Additionally, plugging the Sinden lightguns in the 3.0 ports allows them to be detected first and take the correct mouse indexes that are set in the configs. So you can swap em if you want, but they will have more frames dropped and depending on if your joysticks also have spinners or trackballs etc, then the Sinden lightguns won’t work because they’ll have the wrong mouse index because they booted up last.

Hmm, before you do that consider this. It would look very stretched and one reason we don’t recommend it is because the aspect ratio (when stretched) would be off, causing the aim to be slightly off. It’d probably be playable but you’d notice something is a bit off. Second is that you still need the white border around the edges for the Sinden lightguns to work, our bezels for this BB image have those in the same image. So knowing all that, bezels are assigned to each game as an overlay, which is controlled in retroarch. You can add / remove bezels in there as well as change the aspect ratio to fill the screen.

Thanks. i am running a 4:3 ratio Arcade1up Monitor . aren’t all arcade emulator lite gun games in 4:3 ratio? so it won’t be stretched

@@jeffreyrodriguez9255 go on the Sinden discord and raspberry pi channel. Talk to Widge, he wrote a script to change the aspect ratio for barebones to play on arcade1up, which is actually 5:4 not 4:3. He’ll get ya going!

How about ditching the bezels and boarders for non-lightgun games only? Seems like bezels/borders are on everything by default when they should just be on lightgun games.

@@wesleydelamerced6528 haha probably a little bit of both. Once you figure out how to get the first game loaded you’re good to upload more. Just make sure the name matches the config and the guns will work for the game. But it’s easy, just move on to the next system once you got NES done. And make a backup of your image. I use win32diskimager, it’s free and works easy.

Two differences though. You're using "your image" instead of Barebones image, and pi imager instead of Balena Etcher.

@@oleschoolgamers ah that’s why I’m a rookie at the stuff! So using pi imager to add the BB image is like deleting my original pi image. No wonder after emu station boots and it says retropie BBv9 it says “ emu station crashed “ so I have to leave my original pi image on there and then use the etcher to add that bb image. Thank you so freakin much. I’m gonna get this! I need to! 👍

@@wesleydelamerced6528 if it works, lemme know, I've never heard of having two images on the same sd card. My suggestion, get another sd card dedicated to the Barebones image, load all your roms and done!

@@oleschoolgamers hahaha ok now I’m reeeeally starting to feel my brain melt… so I have my pi4 rite… and all I have to do is put that barebones image onto a new as card and then just pop it on the pi4? Hahahaha!!! The whole time I was thinking u had to have the pi image ( like from scratch ) AND the bb image on the same card in order for the sinden folder to pop up in emu station. Just wasted a few hours of my life. Thank you again. Like seriously.

@@paulfinn3067 either that or it could be a TV setting / brightness / contrast etc. that needs to be adjusted. Power up your PC with the sinden gun plugged into it. Run the Windows software and go to the tab where you can preview the video and check the box to see the preview. Then power up your Pi and start a game that has borders like Duck Hunt. Point the lightgun at the display and look at the preview window on the PC. Make sure you can see the display as blue with a white border. Also, come join us on discord so we can troubleshoot in more real time action, join us in the raspberry-pi-help channel.

That’s more a retropie question than a Barebones question. But here’s how I would do it: open `/etc/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg` and find the section for N64, then copy that whole section from the `` to ` ` xml tags that has N64 stuff in it. Now paste that section into `/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_systems.cfg` (preferably in alphabetical order) Save file and restart Emulation Station.

You gotta hold it for about 5-7 seconds. If it doesn’t work then either the gun can’t see the borders or your guns firmware isn’t 1.6 or higher. Recommend getting on the discord channel for faster response.

Check your TV doesn't have overscan enabled, I had the same problem the gun couldn't see the white border because it was off the edges of the screen. Once I sorted that everything worked including calibration

It sounds like you skipped the part in the video where the hdmi cable should be plugged into the correct port 😎 Try booting it with it plugged into the other hdmi port on the Pi4. If that doesn’t work, join the Sinden discord and go to Raspberry pi help channel and post your question there.

@@oleschoolgamers Cheers, mate! It´s plugged to the one closest to power (pi 400) and I do see all the booting msgs, it just stops booting after it throws the errors. Will try the discord thing then. Thanks again!

@@Animatthias sounds good cause this method’s been used thousands of times and no one’s had the issue you’re describing, so it means you’re using a different imaging tool, or a bad sd card or just doing something different 😎

It’s based on your controller but it’s either start+select (default) or L3+R3 or ESC on the keyboard will work too.
