I don’t know if this is a hot take or normal take, but Ratatouille in my opinion is the best movie Pixar has ever made. It’s pretty much a flawless film.

I'm pretty sure it's my favorite, too. I actually think that 2/3 of Brad Bird's Pixar films have been quite visionary and more unique than almost any other Pixar story told. A movie about a rat that likes to cook sounds like it shouldn't be a good movie, but it all just works. And Patton Oswald is perfect. And Paris is perfect. And the music is perfect. And everyone is perfect, even when it comes to the thankless roles.

Thank you so much for finding out how to pronounce Michael Giacchino. It has been bugging me for weeks as he is an amazing composer, and I actually really love his work on Lost. Also great movie that I totally have passed up for too long.

I love this film’s French setting and the emphasis on good food and cooking. Also its themes of passion and not letting your background hold you down. It’s probably my second fav Pixar film behind Incredibles. Can you tell I’m a Brad Bird stan? Lol

Gotta say, as a person from Cincinnati, I've heard my city referenced close to half a dozen times in media over the past two or three months and every single time it's negative, or at best, dismissive. And yet I can't help but chuckle when it happens, because we're just well known enough for people to know about us, but not enough for people to care lol.

It's still so strange to me that America doesn't have roundabouts. Just reminded myself there when Andy was struggling to know the word, since roundabouts are just so common here in the UK. There are literally like 8 between my house and where I work, and it's only a 15 minute drive...

Ratatouille the Video Game on Nintendo DS has a cooking level that made me SO mad at 8 years old that I snapped my DS in half... Great movie tho

Something that I really hate about this movie is the stupid love interest. She says all pretentious "You know bread is good by how much it crunches". No fucking shit lady, you mean people shouldn't buy stale bread?

Had no idea that the house was reused for the flashback for Ego. Speaking of reused assets in movies. I rewatching Zootopia with my son the other day and noticed that they totally copied the van that the fox and Chihuahua drive in Onward.

It’s not so much that they copied it. That was already in development and they like to throw hints and cameos of previous/ new movies. If you pause at the bit where the weasel is selling bootleg dvds they’re all animal versions of previous Disney movies and there was a moana dvd which hadn’t been made yet.

He's not a chihuahua, he's a fennec fox. I don't think there was any dogs in the movie.

One thing that bothers me is that Remy doesn't really have a character arc. He starts out wanting to be a chef, then he is a chef for the rest of the movie. There's a small bit where Remy is so stubborn that he refuses to listen to others but that never goes anywhere.

He does have an arc, it’s just a subtle one. His arc is learning to accept who he is and embrace it instead of being ashamed. He learns that he will never be fully part of the human world, nor fully part of the rat world, but it’s okay, cause he can just be himself. The scene after Ego publishes his review, where he doesn’t go with Linguini back to his house, nor back with his family to the sewers, but instead goes to sit and watch the sunset over the Eiffel Tower by himself, is visually symbolic of his journey, in my opinion.

The greatest proof of Ratatouille's greatness is that right in the middle of the movie something happens that is tremendously stupid, unrealistic even for a "talking rats" movie and worse yet, is not set up at all, but we don't care. The movie should just fall apart at that point, but it doesn't and we as an audience just roll with it. And it's a necessary plot element too. I'm talking about Remy being able to control Linguini's body by pulling his hair. Complete nonsense. Straight out of left field. No one cares. THAT is a great execution of a script.

I love this movie and was hoping it would be #1. Man Incredibles was overrated and way too high, Ratatouille is easily better than Incredibles and has more of a pixar magic
