Guys. Come on. The story WE saw, was all in Ratchet's head. It was a PTSD-induced hallucination triggered by seeing the stage. The ACTUAL puppet story had nothing to do with what we saw. That's why everyone is so shocked and confused when Ratchet freaks out.

For people who don’t understand, Mildred still has PTSD and everything we saw, is her imagination. The “real” puppet show was a fun kid cartoon which is why everyone was laughing. @johnnorjohnson
@johnnorjohnson 3 жыл бұрын
It's fairly common practice to use dolls/puppets/toys to allow children to interact and process trauma - possibly most famously in the case of sexual abuse, where lack of understanding of sexual maturity means children likely don't even have the vocabulary to talk about their experience. It can also be a useful technique for adults dealing with childhood trauma later on, which is essentially what we see in this scene. Ratched would have read about these techniques and this scene shows how she uses her medical/psychiatric knowledge to confront and interact with challenges in her personal life. The "how dare you" outburst at the end shows how Ratched finally processes the abuse, accepts it for what it was and confronts it as a wrong. It's directed at her abusers - both the Foster parents who created the situation, and the audience who watched it for entertainment. Metaphysically, that also includes us, the viewer, who have become complicit through the act of watching. Not sure if that makes the scene any easier a watch but it is a testament to the writing in Ratched!

According to stastic, 25 millions images of children pornography reviewed by National Center of Missing and Exploited children annually, that's mean around 480K images weekly. Can you imagine while we watched this video, there are children somewhere in the corner of this world sexually, mentally and physically abused by predators. They are helpless and vulnerable, we always assume that this kind of bizzare things only happen in fiction but lot of times reality is stranger than fiction.

It happens to me in some movies and plays, when I watch a move or in theatre and if the story line gets into something I reflect my past situations in. I start seeing myself into the play or show.

I like how this scene is used the same framework used in Requiem For A Dream. Not many movies or shows use that kind of framing.

Lol for most of the time I thought that this was real puppet show (whatever makes the plot going) and found it funny that everyone including Gwendolyn finds the puppet horror show hillarious while Mildred is terrified watching it BTW: The narrator's facial expressions were on point and wrinkles around his eyes looks like Frankenstein-esque stitches

I don’t know how I feel about this scene especially for the role it plays on allowing us the viewer to have an insight on the trauma that creates what Mildred becomes as I see her as an emotionless murderer in One Flew Over The Cookoos Nest although this scene is done so well and I enjoyed most of what Ratched had to offer outside of the confines of my expectations of what this series would have for the movie title, I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I don't see it as a prequel to one flew over the cuckoos nest. This is it's own story. Having a prequel going into the "trauma" of the villian changes the meaning of the book completely

Ok for those that don’t understand because y’all clearly don’t, what Mildred sees isn’t what the kids and her friend see, it’s also not what the man is talking about. What WE and Mildred see is her conscience showing us what happened in her childhood. So no, the kids aren’t watching a play of literal physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. They’re watching what Mildred and us should be seeing , needed to clarify because people were confused. Anyways, let’s wait for season 2 now
