Another Great video Clay, I have never used a Matco ratchet (I've never even been on a Matco Truck before) but something that you didn't mention ( something I have discovered) is that size matters between brands. I like my Snap-On best in 3/8, but I like my Mac best in 1/4 (but maybe that's just my experience and how I use them) . .. . . and as an electrician I don't use much 1/2 stuff (since I rarely use 1/2, so really can't comment on 1/2)

@@87FoRunner they are strong. I used a 3/8 extra long ratchet as a breaker bar for a long time... Like 3 years every day.. I mean as a breaker bar... On seized anything you can think of. Both of these do a great job for me. I also have a Snap On non flex in 18 for those situations that I need the leverage, it has a small head like the matco's. I own all 3 flex head 120xp's ratchets and I own all 3 of the 84 tooth locking flex head ratchets. So far they have treated me good. Even though the 120xp flex head ratchet is not a true locking ratchet, they still have a pretty strong detente flex head. It does take a little bit of force to move the head. I still love the true locking flex head ratchets.

Bobby Garrett I’ve become a fan of Carlyle tools as well. One of their ratchets I have is the bent-handle, non-locking, flex-head. Unfortunately, I have had the ratchet head move when I attempted to exert some pressure on it. That makes me want the locking flex-head now. The ratchet mechanism is smooth and the comfort grip handle feels good. The ratchet mechanism may be considered “old-fashion” because it’s a 72-tooth design, but it doesn’t bother me and I never gave it any thought when I use it. Maybe Carlyle will offer a locking flex-head in their new 90-tooth design ratchets. The profile of the ratchet head on the Carlyle flex-head ratchets appears smaller. I can’t find the measurements to substantiate it. So, if any of y’all have found them let me know.

Brilliant video once again, love your channel. Since watching your channel it's made me buy snap on,I've a dealer come round once a week and I've changed 90% of my tools to snap I've spent a fortune but its worth it. My question is what do you think about Carlyle tools? I'm thinking of buying a few things to try,I would appreciate some advice first thank you.. please stay safe and keep reaching

I have a bunch of Carlyle tools, sockets, adapters, wrenches, jacks, transmission jacks, impacts and several other tools. They are great and everywhere you go has a Napa. I don’t own any of the ratchets because our local store only has a very few that are fixed heads. If you watched the impact video we did where we pushed the Milwaukee m18 1/2” to 1400 lbs ft the socket used in the video was a carlyle socket.

I have 2 of the bent handle flex Snap on from 1987/ 88 wish they had locking back then. Ask Hamilton if I can trade 2 `87/88 of the black handle ratchets for 1 blue handle locking flex head. Thanks

I love the feel of the Mac ratchet but I did have issues with almost all of mine where the face plate bolts that hold the internals in would shear off after about a year of use requiring a head replacement. I hope that Mac makes a full comeback with better stocked trucks and I will be sold on them for the foreseeable future as far as serviceability and replacement goes!

I had that same issue with a1/4” and I normally don’t break ratchets.

Why not a cornwell ratchet, I have alot of ratchets from each truck but my cornwell 3/8ths is my go to, it's also best of both worlds, it has the flex head but it's a ball detent, so it can move and then stay in place when you flex the head

Helped me decide on the Matco. I didn’t like the snap on locking mechanism either. Matco’s just works so much better for me, not to mention doesn’t bulge out like the snap on

I have snap-on and matco, I prefer my snap on, I’m a small man working in a diesel shop, so I completely trust my 1/2” flex head snappy with a 4 foot pipe on it. Removing head bolts, I’ve never had the ratchet pawls slip even with a pipe on the end of her. I love the matco as well for its slim design, it’s a little lighter than my snap on, and no questions asked warranty.

If I have to think about head thickness before I pick up a ratchet, it’s gonna get benched as a backup. 15” MATCO works the best in my book......slim locking head and the length is perfect for just about any job

I have a Matco tools long handle locking flex head ratchet. I tankwash and do conversion washed so when we have to take out product valves and bolts have never been touched, I can personally attest to it gets the job done, my uncle said he would break it on those bolts it did the job I went to move the nuts aside and I had to drop them because they were hot. Don't see gear wrench able to do that

I have Matco and Snap On ratchets. I hate the snap on lock because any time I want it unlocked if it gets bumped it will go locked again since it’s spring loaded. Matco’s lock always stays where you put it. I haven’t used the matco comfort grip but they look a lot like the gearwrench.are they rebranded?

I've had a matco flex 88 non comfort since 09 that I mostly use in unlocked but have snap on non locking flex that needs some viagra. Think its time for snap on to get a different home.

Been eyeing one of those new MAC locking flex ratchets. They are really nice. It’s a toss up what I get next though. The rbrt extractors or the ratchet. Decisions decisions. 🤔

Koon Trucking I was thinking the same thing. I live in up in Northwest Pa. Land of the rust. I do a lot of rotted exhaust manifolds so rbrt extractors should be next. Besides I already own about 50 ratchets. Lol.

I have the Matco and Snap-On locking flex head, but for me the Matco knocks it out of the park. I also have a Napa ratchet that is very similar to the Mac with the button release, not much of a fan of the constant lock.
