This is a review of the Bahco 808050 808050p regular and pistol grip ratcheting screwdrivers. These particular ratcheting screwdrivers are made in Taiwan and the bits are also made in Taiwan and accepts standard C6.3 and E6.3 insert bits with a length of 1" or longer.

I have had one of these since 2007, for me the main complaint is the “pop out” bit holder…..especially if you are working in a situation where you can easily drop it and lose it, also the bits it comes with rusts badly (because of the cold and wet weather here in Denmark) if I leave it out in my car for an extended period of time

I love hand tools. Sometimes if I am changing an air filter and I have to remove a plastic cover to get to it, if there is time, I will put down my electric driver and get out a traditional screwdriver or ratcheting driver like this just for the joy of feeling the torque on individual fasteners. These are good to use on older cars because it is difficult to overtighten something with a screwdriver

Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree, it's also much harder to cross thread than with an electric screwdriver and in general they're less bulky.

I have had one as my EDC for the past 6 years and have never accidently popped out the bit holder.

I’ve owned both of these for over 5 years. Ive never had a problem with accidently releasing the bit holder. There is no way you can release it unless you purposley pinch both sides at the same time with your fingertips. Even an extremely tight grip with a single hand is not enough to press those side buttons down enough to release the bit holder. After 5 years the pistol grip one feels like it possibly has some damaged teeth in the internals. Which is how i got to this video since I was searching if there is a video showing how to open it up and repair the insides. It may just be it needs a little lube and thats it but who knows. Its done a fine job all these years really. My main complaints are the length for both is alot longer than other ratcheting screwdrivers. I think by an inch or so. So i had difficulty working with it in tight spaces where length was a problem and also the L shape in the pistol grip wouldnt work either due to small access areas I would work on. Also wish it had a better tooth count since the degree needed to catch the next tooth had too much play to ratchet in tighter spaced areas so I would need to twist the driver around as if it was a regular driver without a ratcheting mechanism for it to catch on the next tooth. If that makes sense to anyone…lol! Overall a 3.5/5 in my opinion. 4/5 for the pistol grip one.

Right now I own my second faulty one. On the first one bit holder was opening pressing one button. On my new one the ratchet is not smooth at all. I gave up and didn't go to replace the second one.

I have one variation of it, the pistol grip ones, made by Japanese brand, TONE. The difference is the shaft. TONE use their own shaft that can be detached from the handle. It's about 110mm in length when it's attached. For the ratchet switch, turn left to tighten, and right to loosen. The grip is full of rubber overmould with some grooves on it. Just bought it few days ago as an occasional substitute for my go to ratcheting screwdriver Anex 397D. I use both, mainly for driving small screw in furniture making, which is too risky for my impact driver. While on it, would you try reviewing Japanese tools? They make quality stuff. I think their pliers, Fujiya, Engineer, Tsunoda, are comparable to high end US/European made. For screwdrivers Vessel and Anex are my go to. The Anex 397-D is brilliant, it's the true one hand ratchet screwdriver. You don't need to adjust your hand to switch the ratchet, just use your right thumb. No need your left hand to turn the knurled shaft because you can do it with your right fingers. The ball grip handle is a pleasant to use. Bad side about it, it doesn't have bit compartment. That's why I try the Tone. Ah, before I forgot, thanks for all the videos you've made. You're awesome 👍

@@htr5372 Great !! It's interesting to see. My vessel screwdriver line only consist of Megadora and Impacta, for the ball grip I have only Anex 397-D. That PZ-60 really great removing small screws. For Tsunoda pliers, I have some of their small electronic pliers. Looking forward for your next videos :)

Don't like the button to pop it out. God knows how many times I would do that accidentally. Also never been a fan of totally Releasable bit holder in screwdriver. Do like the knurling though and they seem like they would do okay!

Hi wanted to ask, is the driver/bit holder detachable? If so, is it possible to add smaller bit holder? Especially asking for the pistol grip one

Thanks for watching. It is fixed and not detachable. You could however modify it like the Snap On to be detachable probably.
