the way he genuine critiques rhe art kind reminds me how my mom would give a critique on any Dicks that her students drew on tables. it didn't count towards their grade and was mostly just to shame them for vandalism of school property. her biggest complaint was always of "firework ejaculation" in which the squirt physics were never drawn properly, like it was always three disconnected drops instead of one continuous stream

Seriously, it does feel a little weird to congratulate anyone for this reason but I'm doing it- congrats! I had a lot of stigma around r34 because of the "culture“ and audience it attracted. Most artist just want to make a cheap buck or are just making it for shock value comedy from the mid 2000’s, and that set the precedent for what this medium was. So I really can’t blame others from a outisider perspective from saying its not real artistry. However, being on the Internet too long has shown me a few of them that are so unreasonably good at making it that it destroyed all pretence i had for it. When you think about it, drawing this stuff is kinda like hard mode (no pun, please). You have to take a character that has pretty much no canonical expression so explicit, and make one that is. You have no luxury of hiding their anatomy behind clothing, or if their is, is very suggestive of every part of their proportions. This being even more difficult if they are anthro characters, and have to proportion those features to still look balaced (something even the studios cant accomplish). And if you are really talented, make a depiction that is representative of their own character traits. If you are able to do all of these using your own artistic expression, and it still be artistically coherent and creative, thats kinda just braging.

People either go ew or laugh at the adult art, and don't care to learn anything more. But there's a lively and fascinating subculture surrounding adult art, and it's been around for decades, and I'd love to learn more about it.

Objectively, it takes a lot of skill to be a really good R34 artist. EroArt requires a hefty understanding of both the human anatomy and art fundamentals. American art courses don’t get into the nitty-gritty on how to draw the crotch areas. It’s actually pretty complicated, all things considering. We all have misconceptions of where our private parts are actually located and how they function, which is why it’s easy for beginner R34 artists to make glaring mistakes. If I had a nickle for every time I’ve seen the 🍆 put in the wrong position on the body. My point is that EroArt/R34 is actually REALLY difficult. As an artist, it’s something you have to really want to do and learning how to do it requires going deeper than traditional art courses. You’ll need to look at 18+ material as a study in human anatomy. Really get an understanding of how Part A fits into Part B. Otherwise, your art will not have the effect you want. Nothing ruins R34 art faster than really skewed anatomy and bad composition. People can be disgusted by it, confused, or whatever. But the reason why a lot of R34 art is objectively good (as in, correct anatomy/shading/presentation) is because the artists themselves are objectively good at what they do. TL;DF- It’s not *just* something people do for shits ans giggles. There’s real work, talent and effort put into a lot of R34.

There's something to be said about how content creators react to this sort of stuff, and while I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion and feelings on the matter (specially if they are the ones being drawn), I like seeing people who embrace it or simply accept it as a part of being an internet figure. Can't wait to see the fully scripted video on the history of R34 content!
