This is such a brilliantly observed and brilliantly performed sketch. Even after 30 years or so it's as fresh as a daisy. I never get tired of watching it (even though I always get tired OUT watching it!)

This takes me back to being a kid. I remember this sketch like it was yesterday. Everyone was talking about it in school the next day. Soooo funny and there's always a hostess like this.

I don't think I'm this obnoxious but whenever I plan something I do feel a compulsive need to make everyone feel comfortable and have exactly what they want and that things run perfectly (they never actually do), lol. It's incredibly stressful and I kinda feel bad for her, haha. It's still quite funny though. But I'm getting second hand anxiety, lol.

It's like any animal in captivity, they go stir crazy and morph all thought into a non stop routine. For a lion its pacing. reminds me of the walking circle in the Turkish prison in "midnight express"

Lenny (the black guy) is a british comedian, and is Dawn's husband; Adrian, is Jennifer's husband - so basically they all play the same role as they do in this sketch.

No, he was born in Britain, he's British British. His mother came from Jamaica though and he has two or three older siblings who were also born there.

i'm right with you. my mum is exactly the same when we have family or guests over...but i learned to either ignore it or to try and calm her down by taking things in my own hand so that she can sit down and relax. so mostly i'll end up as the butler but i'm ok with that since then there will be much more peace in the house and mostly i hate it more to have to sit down with people i don't really know and answer their boring questions about what i do and how i am and blablabla... :D

daggettooo i'm so sorry for you. I was the opposite i was trying to make my mother panic even more as i found it hilarious .I was waiting for the boring questions and try to give the worst possible answers. As a teen if i was asked about my girlfriend by nosy guest i would just answer "mum didn't tell you i was gay" Nothing is funnier than awkward silences at dinner parties !
