Big thanks to PCBWay for sponsoring this video. Check them out here: www.pcbway.com
After completing the KillerBee build and doing a lot of testing with various projects, it is time to do a detailed review. In this video, I go over all the options I chose and the modifications I made to the base machine. This should give you a good idea of what you might want in your KillerBee build. In the next part, I will then go into detail on the cutting performance with various materials, including some detailed metal testing.

I didn't realize how compact this machine was in your other videos! I thought it was in a much pricier tier from watching you work with it. I wish they were available where I live.

Since you have already beefed up the center of the table, and you're not the biggest fan of how the t-track clamps were working, and you may want to run coolant in the future this is what I did on our machine. We have a techno cnc router, but I used 1/2" acrylic, drilled and tapped 1/4-20 holes every 3 inches of the table, and for two corners [let's say lower left and upper right] i spaced them an inch apart for a 7"square. (sorry for using the imperial system) works great for routing wood, holding clamps, and I've even had decent results cutting aluminum. The dream is to replace the acrylic hole bed with an aluminum one, but the acrylic was free and aluminum is a lot more expensive than free 😜

Cool review! I was wondering what the z axis range/travel is on these? Can't find it anywhere

Made a switch to uccnc some time ago and it's just great. Had a bunch of hobby controllers before and they were simply not good enough (for various reasons). This just works and has a ton of features, both hardware and software. Just a suggestion, but could you do a video about actual killerbee capabilities in various materials? I mean achievable material removal rates (feedrates, depth and width of cut)? Ratrig does not have many and on the other hand many people ask about this for example in their Facebook group. Would be also nice to be able to compare it to stock workbee (which still uses dated and weak design) and also competition like queenbee (both original from cnc3d or various versions from Chinese sellers).

Great review, its a lot better with Linear Rails like you have on this machine, but it is possible to cut aluminum with V Wheels to, even though its not as simple as with Rails. What do you think about the OpenBuild Lead 1010 ? i guess the V wheels are the only downside to it, only the 7 Gantry plates cost almost 100 Euros and the V Wheels with bearings about 100 Euros, that's 200 Euros to instead spend on Linear Rails to get a much better Lead 1010 machine. Thanks for a good review.. :D

Excitingly awaiting my 1510 ordered a month ago. Hopefully not too wobbly :-) It'll be my first cnc ever, so went with their full kit (and duet controller). Seeing your mods and upgrades have been great though, just knowing what's possible and what might be good things to fix.

How are you liking the 1510? I'm about to order one for work but with these concerns I'm wondering if I should do the 1000x1000mm instead

@@nico9314 Just got the kit last week. Have not had time to start building. Got PWM to analog converter from Amazon today (for spindle) and picked up MDF yesterday for table top. The Mesh Workbench I opted for is delayed until June so will have to fix something temporary for that too.

Looks interesting, had not heard of it before. It is definitely quite a bit more expensive than the nvem (at least once you add a breakout board), but looks to be closer to the smoothstepper I'm using on my other cnc in terms of functionality. How is the documentation for it? As that really is what makes or breaks such a controller.

@@DarkArtGuitars The board is made from the guy at cnc drive. They are really responsive and the mach3 plugin is stable. I had USS before and this one is better. Also more functionalities, including rigid tapping. Plus can always switch to UCCNC which is much better than Mach3. It also accepts the same macros. Regarding the probe, on Ali there are nice little ones and if you get a shorter stylus it should fit the RatRig perfectly.

How do you lubricate your linear rails?

Excelente trabalho!!!

Hey, I currently have an openbuild c-beam machine and thinking to upgrade. This one seems far more rigid is it true ? Can you apply like 5-10 kg pressure on a spindle in various directions and show the amount of flex like you showed it on the x axis pushing on top ? Have you had any experience with c-beam configuration by any chance ? I mostly cut wood but on occasion want to cut aluminum. While c-beam is a great machine for wood but then it comes to aluminium while possible I find it way too flexy.

I am not familiar with that particular machine, but from what you've mentioned it is probably using v-wheels for the motion instead of linear rails. If the metal structure itself is descently sturdy, you might consider upgrading it with linear rails, they can be had quite cheaply from aliexpress. Or if the machine is similar to the queen bee, RatRig also sells an upgrade kit to get the killerbee features on a machine that was using v-rollers.

Did you look into linear rail protection ("Faltenbalg")?
@DarkArtGuitars
@DarkArtGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
I have considered it. There isn't quite enough room to fit it without loosing any travel, so I haven't done it yet. I might add some chip shields to the Y axis though as the rails there do get hit quite a bit by chips.

@@DarkArtGuitars Appreciate the insight! Considering RatRig or Openbuilds and want to be very prepared for import/VAT fees. I thinkI will go with Ratrig as it seems just a bit more sturdy then Openbuilds. Hard to know really as there are no comparisons out there,. Anyway, Thanks again!

Hallo Great videos about modifying your Bernardo Mill. I try to copy it for my Bernardo BF25pro. How much torque i need for the motors? regards and best wishes from Berlin Henning
@DarkArtGuitars
@DarkArtGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
I went way overkill with the Nema 34 motors I used, some high torque Nema 23 would probably be enough, possibly a small Nema 34 for the z axis, depending on how well supported it is.

Apparently you can't get a custom size of 750 mm x 1500 mm :( .... To bad - It would have fit perfectly in my shop.
@DarkArtGuitars
@DarkArtGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
Guess they're too busy now, when I ordered mine I considered a custom size and they were open to do it for a minor fee and difference in material. But it also makes sense that they want to focus on catching up with the queue instead of doing custom stuff.

I enjoyed your build and learnd a lot. thank you! are you familiar with QueenAnt Pro CNC? looks like main difference is ball screw and thicker plates kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b9ShrZt5u7W0m3U.html . looks like similar prices but I think your build has larger work area for the same footprint. I have limited space... was wondering what is your first impression from the QueenAnt pro?
@DarkArtGuitars
@DarkArtGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
It looks a bit beefier than the KillerBee, but since it still uses the same aluminum extrusions, they are the main source of any flex. Probably won't make a big difference which one you choose.
