You freak...I love it! Great channel man! Just woke up, got the coffee going, watching this... That recent commercial with the Ratt problem, look at that massive set of shoes to fill to the left that would, and should, have been the King. Sad as hell. Been playing since '78, and watching live stuff from back in the day when Robbin and Warren would be trading off licks ---Warren's sound is out there, clear to the ear...whereas Robbin's was almost like he was masking his sound with heavy chorus to cover himself from the partying. I've done the same thing in the past. I could be totally off, but that's what it seemed at times. Mind you, playing those pointy guitars always turned me off. I'd see a picture of one, get one, and be like WTF when jamming with it. Whatever...now I'm rambling.

Cellar was the 2nd best RATT album ever. Cellar was pushed heavily by the insane amount of MTV rotation. Invasion burned its own fire. Not to mention, RATT was primarily a live act, which they didn’t really capitalize on by bringing cameras into the concerts. I still often wonder what RATT would’ve been if Beau wasn’t on these things.

I doubt without Beau they would have had that level of success in that mid 80s period. Beau managed to capture Stephen’s distinct vocals and vibe on record via multiple overdubs and echo taking off the edge...so much so Stephen is cool with Beau doing his vocals as per one of his recent solo albums. Live, his vocals were not good and the big backing vocals sometimes out of tune.

Robbin and Warren kinda remind me of the 2 guitar players from Def leppard ones bluesy soulful the other a shred wiz kid anyone get what I'm talking about that seen the def leppard movie
@lastrolo1517

Yep. Crosby stated by Invasion that having two shredders would have sounded really old fast and that he was after a Billy Gibbons tasty vibe with a twist. Some of the Invasion material is older and so Crosby still taking a fair share of leads. By Dancing, he had retreated and Warren was the showcased guitar wunderkid.

I agree, There's some solid similarities between Robbin & Warren, And Steve Clark & Phil Collen. Ironically Robbin & Steve are two of my biggest and most obvious influences on my own playing and writing. Good call!

God rest his soul, but i always kinda felt like Robbin Crosby thought of himself as being a way better guitar player than he actually was. Ive heard many times that he always felt slighted, and that he didnt get the credit he deserved. I dunno. Maybe thats not true. But ive heard a hundred times that that was a major factor in his downfall. I mean...i dont think anybody would ever say that he was on par with the best guitar players of the time. Not even close. But he was good for RATT. I dont think they go too far without Robbin.
@MaskedManiacReviews
@MaskedManiacReviews 3 жыл бұрын
Robbin said in an interview I have in a magazine from 1984 that he didnt feel 2 guitar wizards were needed in one band and I doubt he thought he was the wizard of the 2. I do assume drugs and alcohol had a huge hand in his feelings. I always thought he was pretty good. Hes a bit more plodding style mid paced and warren is blistering fast and tight. I do agree he truly was good for Ratt.

He was a rhythm player, songwriter, and a leader. Warren Dimartini is a fantastic lead player, but is a bit meek. The 80's scene was being larger than life, so you needed a good balance to make it. Some talent, some attitude and a great video look and catchy songs = Millionaires$$$
@Jbsutt

@@MaskedManiacReviews Yea I mean I say that based on my own abilities as a guitarist and also on interviews ive heard/read, and stuff other people say theyve heard/read. You can easily pick out what few solos Robin Crosby played in RATT because theyre very basic and pentatonic. He NEVER really goes beyond that mode. And I mean no disrespect at all, but staying within that pentatonic/blues framework in soloing is typical of a very limited, non versatile player. No disrespect, it's just the truth. Any classically trained guitarist would tell you that. BUT--for all i know, who's to say that there isnt some unreleased shit somewhere that nobodys heard where hes going neoclassical and shredding his testicles off. So I love Robin Crosby. In fact, I think that he was probably more vital to RATT than Warren DiMartini, so im not slighting him one bit. I just hate it ended like it did with him.

@@Jbsutt I know man. It's a sad story. Robbin wrote alot of music too so maybe he had perfect pitch and could just write good music which then Warren would execute it. I understand what you mean guitar wise. Robbin is someone who is a bit more approachable music wise than Warren. Warren is kind of one of those 8th wonder type players. Not many are better other than someone like Steve Vai IMO.
@BLeeFAFO
@BLeeFAFO 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure I'll get plenty of shit for my take (As I generally have for years from DeMartini fans), But while King may not have been inclined toward flashy fast playing I think truthfully he was a MUCH more versatile and capable player than Warren was for much of their time together. Here's why I think so. Up until the Dancing Undercover period, Robbin generally took 45-50% of the solos and yes on songs a lot of people typically attributed to Warren Yes, for much of their lead work, Robbin's style was not nearly as quick handed or speedy as Warren's, And yes there's a few songs where Robbin's solos were fairly basic blues/pentatonic links.. But Robbin had a few things in his arsenal that Warren just didn't have at the time. 1) Robbin could and DID play some very melodic and even fast flashy licks BUT he just preferred not to. He by his own admission wasn't keen on trying to keep up with the "speed demons" as he himself put it.. 2) Warren at the time in my opinion was primarily pretty much focused on cramming as much into his licks as possible and a lot of it was really noodley and incoherent. In fact back then I think he was nowhere near an accomplished or mature a player as Robbin was and in retrospect it really shows. 3) Warren (with notable exceptions) was a one trick pony but because speed and flash were a valued commodity back then, The band knew they could capitalize on it and did. I know a lot of people think I bash on Torch for no reason or for just weak ones if any, But I stand by what I mean. All due respect to Warren, He just wasn't the writer, performer OR player Robbin was back then. Robbin was a much stronger guitarist in almost all respects except that he wasn't as flashy or speedy as Warren was. The proof is this, As Warren started to hold more sway and influence over the playing and songwriting over their career span, Their popularity AND critical acclaim lessened quickly. Not even to mentioned their album sales. And lastly, I do understand that King, due to his own feelings of insecurity and maybe perceived slight withdrew into depression and drug abuse. Which of course only furthered his lessening role. Sorry for being really long winded, But being a massive King nerd I had to state the case. Cheers 🍻
