In this video I fully charge the high voltage battery on my 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime and then drive in the city to determine how far can it go in full EV mode in the city.
The 2021 RAV4 Prime is rated for 42 miles or 68 km of range on a full charge. Watch and see how well I did.

83km of EV range on probably one of the most reliable AWD SUV money can buy? No wonder these Primes sell like hotcakes.

Exactly. On a RAV4 forum one R4P owner showed a 95km EV range from his app. He must drive a lot in the city. That is incredible, the best of both worlds IMHO.

I've had my RAV4 Prime for 1 month now. Driven about 600 miles and charge every day. I 1st charge showed an EV range of 35 miles. The range keeps increasing. It now shows 48 miles of EV range. I have yet to drive it until there's no EV left, but I'm thinking that I will get 60 miles of EV. I always use the paddle shifters to increase the regen when coming to a stop and going downhill.

Thanks for the comment. I have found that the paddle "shifters" cause the gas engine to kick on if the EV part has a full charge, so I really don't use the paddle shifters anymore, I just lightly press the brake pedal, which does the exact same thing.

@@InternetDude It has never caused my engine to turn on. Maybe it's because I've used 1 or 2 miles of EV.

How’s the acceleration in EV mode? Sounds like I don’t need gas at all if I just charge it at nite.

@@tednguyen208 I charge @10pm when I pay $.05 kwh and now the charge shows 52 miles of EV range. I have added Sta-Bil 360 to the fuel tank to lessen the corrosive effects of the Ethanol in the gas. I'm going to drive 1,000 miles in EV only and then force burn 1/4 tank of gas. I will continue to do this until I get to 1/4 tank. Then I will add 5 gallons and 1oz of Sta-Bil 360. I will try and not let the gas get more than 6 months old.

@@frankmabry1661 Hi. If you don't use the engine that often, do you have to do oil change every 5000 mile or 6 months. Thank you

Thanks for the question. I haven't gone that far enough on a road trip yet, perhaps this summer. Some places are opening up and some aren't, I don't have definite travel plans at the moment.

I am curious what`s the total range on hybrid drive only, starting with a full fuel tank and full battery. What`s the capacity of the fuel tank (how many liters)?
@InternetDude
@InternetDude 3 жыл бұрын
Hi with a full charge EV and full tank of gas Toyota says the range is 979 km.

@@InternetDude sorry man I thought this was a hybrid. I know the hybrid has an EV mode and was wondering if you can use that on the highway.. I see this is all electric. But thanks!

I think all cars should be hybrids, from now on, engines are useless in city and idle,why keep the whole engine on just to turn the ac compressor, should just make the ac compressor it's own little engine lol, would use 1/32 about of gas of the whole engine just on for that alone, that's where ev comes in, but on highway gas all day, full up and turn around time is still way faster, but cost a little more, Toyota has a hydrogen future, just think of it 3kg of gas is 1 kg of hydrogen, example 50 liters of gas is needed in a car where 16% of the 50 liters is the only source you need to get the car moving, the other 84% is waste(hydrocarbon etc), so in reality in this example the car only has 8 liters of hydrogen, which is the source that make a engine combust and function, if with only 8 liters of hydrogen from fuel we can get 300miles on a tank, just think of if the gas tank had 50 liters of only hydrogen, that means a car that take 50 liters to full can go 1875 miles(3000km) on 1 tank of pure hydrogen and only produce stem out the exhaust which can cool an turn the water back into useful hydrogen, and that's a car with only 300miles on a tank or 22mpg, that's why Toyota want to go hydrogen because if there hybrid cars can go 800miles on a gas tank with only 16% of whats inside is powering the car then Toyota can get about 5000miles(8000km) on 1 tank of pure hydrogen, that's crazy, and I think that's why elon musk is afraid of and trying to call Toyota stupid etc, he knows cars would be way faster with pure hydrogen also, look at race fuel only has 24% more hydrogen and a higher octane and engine makes 30% more power think of pure hydrogen 😍 go Toyota

Toyota is the #1 automaker in the world in terms of number of cars produced. I would love for every Toyota & Lexus to be hybrid going forth but they're not there yet, maybe one day... I can't believe cars still idle in 2021, that's so antiquated. Fortunately this RAV4 Prime doesn't.
