(RAW) THICCC pin oak removed from a golf course

The raw unedited video of an oak that was one of the longer climbs that I have had. It was right next to a golf course, and as such we had onlookers all throughout the day. While it looked imposing at first it turned out to be a fairly straight forward removal.

can you still fall out the tree or all the way down just being tied in with a lanyard? im a new climber and want to know if im safe if i ever gaff out before i set my life line

It's possible, but not probable. The flip line will grab a hold and suck you into the tree after a 2-3 foot drop. You'll get some bark burn but you'll be alive. I'm a new climber too and have gaffed out before. As often as possible I will set my safety line before ever getting in the tree. I'm not as confident as these pros we're watching but that's okay. Guys like us can be fast and a little dangerous some other day. Right now the name of the game is staying alive. Be safe brother and don't forget that God decides all. Have faith and have fun!!

He is right, you can still gaff out, your flipline will catch on something. It'll hurt when you hit to tree in all honesty, but it's better then hitting the ground. Another thing you can do besides setting your rope from the ground is to climb with your flipline and a synching climb line so that if you slip it locks down around the tree

@@ReallyTallTreeGuywhats the best way to manipulate a good tie in? Like how would you throw or shoot your ball and test your line? I know some get it wrapped like you have it when you are in the canopy but how could you do that from the ground to get it around the stem of the tree and not just a limb?

I typically try for the highest main union that looks to be about 4-5 inches in diameter ( just because of my size), then once I've got my throw line up through that union I tie on my climb line. Once that's pulled through I terminate it at the base with a running bowline with a Yosemite finish. As for testing it, I attach myself to it, and get all the slack out I can, once I'm hanging a foot or so above the ground I'll have one of the ground guys pull down on the line with me. That way if it doesn't break I know it's good for far more then my weight. On the 1st of June I'll have a short video out showing all of what I just said. Personally, video helps me faaaar more then just reading it.
