Paul Pena Dalio is saying that the motive of capitalism to make a profit has caused people to lose their jobs and hollow out the middle class. This has created unequal conditions in taxes. The idiot host is bringing up the unions and schools and saying you want to tax rich people more, standard GOP drivel that Kernan regurgitates all the time. Dalio is saying the government is spending so much money on prisons because of the crap school system they don’t have the money to spend on schools, whether schools are a government responsibility or not. So he wants to fix the system. This makes sense because the system has to be reformed. The US spends more per child than many places. But only in the wealthy areas. But in the poor places they spend very little on schools and more on enforcement leading to the massive incarceration problems. The idiot Kernan was not allowing Dalio to explain that government is hamstrung unless the system can be fixed and went off into stupid scatalogical discussions about ken Langone the founder of Home Depot.

Socialism Needs Capitalism. And Capitalism Needs Socialism. They work best when you use a bit of both. A Hybrid system can be used to make one side cover for the shortcomings of the other. The people left out by capitalism get helped back up by Socialistic policys, and the policies are paid for by the amount of steady, constant growth we have. Oh and the Economic Crunch we have every 10 years or so? I feel that a new system may not only migitage the damage, but eventually eliminate it, creating a.....permanently stable economy. At least thats In theory. Its easy tk corrupt anything nowadays.

I've been saying this for years, it's not a binary choice. We already have a hybrid system because we've realized pure capitalism is abusive. The real debate is what's the right balance because pure capitalism resulted in slavery, cheap labor, poisoned environments/products; we almost hunted many whales to extinction for goodness sake, almost destroyed our ozone. FDR saved us from ourselves by creating a hybrid system, which resulted in 50 years of growth, with almost no volatility. And, we did that with 70-90% marginal tax rates, plus, social unrest with many people not allowed to participate. Imagine the growth we would have had if everyone had equal opportunity with no apartheid for women and other groups. Now, here comes the 80s, rather than tweak the system using the correct math, we create phony models like dynamic scoring and Trickle Down. The results are in, it's been a disaster, which led to another catastrophic collapse. I hate when lazy pundits squeal Venezuela, unions, immigrants because it shows they're not serious. No one is arguing about eliminating capitalism, and frankly, I don't think humanity is enlightened enough to embrace a socialist society (corruption/greed). We need to make a seamless hybrid for which models already exists, in places like Israel, Denmark, Iceland and once upon a time, here in the US.

claude L. You’ve misunderstood his point. He’s saying that misallocation of expenditure causes inequality. A private and public partnership that gives more money to the schools will lower incarceration. Poor education leads to lower economic opportunities. Public schools provides the basic resources in establishing equitable opportunities. When you have under funded schools, students aren’t catered to or feel like they are being assisted which leads to dropping out and delinquency. It not only limits their economic potential but also sets them up for poor social integration. This is perfectly justified and not crazy in any way

THERE IS A SPIRITUAL LADY CALLED MAMA, I don't know where she got those strong prayers to help people but she's good!! You know I've consulted with her two times. I remember there was a time when I couldn't get a job, and I called her to see if she could help me. By that time I had applied at my current workplace and they called me so fast without asking too many details I was offered the job yet I was told that the position has many applicants by the time I submitted in my papers!!!! Mama's spiritual prayers helped me to get that job within a week yet I had spent three good years when am jobless!! The next thing she did for me was to pray and I finally got promoted at work!! When I was new, I used to like upgrading and get at least a good salary increase since I had spent three years jobless!! I again called my spiritual woman Mama and told her about my desire to get a promotion!! She told me to let her know anytime when the company announces a good promotion and we pray such that I can get it!! There's my workmate who thinks that I was just born lucky, but deep down inside I know who has contributed to my success, She's called MAMA a very genuine spiritual lady who does some of these spiritual prayers for people like me!! So my writing for this was to at least praise her for what she has done for me, and maybe to pass over this information to anyone who may need it. The average cost of a presidential campaign in the 70's was around $10 million. Its now around $1 billion. The average cost of a congressional campaign has increase over 700% since 1983. Corporations figured out that lobbying via super pacs and campaign contributions that they could buy politicians who would then implement policies favorable to them. A clear and recent example of this was the Mercer family who owned the patent on Oxycontin. The Mercers paid doctors to over prescribe their product which led to the opiate epidemic. When the FBI began a criminal investigation, the Mercer's instructed the congressmen they put into office to have it shut down. This example is just one out of thousands of how corporate lobbying has created a government which only implements pro corporate policies and completely ignore the interests of the lower and middle income classes.

The tensions in this interview fundamentally arise from a lack of understanding of not only what capitalism is and in turn how complex it is but of ideologies of social organisation in general. What I mean by this is that no matter what form of social organisation is under consideration, it is the responsibility of relevant authorities to institute a framework which all participants must follow which effectively safeguards the various structures that comprise society. So the responsibilities of the authorities are not extricable from the results produced by whatever form of social organisation is in place, after all they are the ones responsible ensuring that society continues to function in an orderly manner. In the case of Capitalism, the issue is that Individualism at the level of every individual pursuing his or her own self interest cannot be reconciled with collective stability and in aggregate it is actually destabilising. There must be an conscious recognition of the fact that the survivability of the overall system takes precedence over individual liberties and to that extent Individualism cannot be allowed to destabilise the social order as it currently is doing by creating cumulative instabilities, as this could cause the collapse of the system itself which is clearly contrary to the objectives of almost all participants. This is what I think Mr Dalio is trying to explain and actively trying to raise awareness out and remedy through this philanthropy.

Loved what Dalio had to say on education. This country could cut its prison population by two thirds in a single generation if it supported childhood education. All of America’s prisons are filled with angry men who were innocent blank slates of children when they were 4 years old. Criminal behavior is learned between 4 and 16. Young men who see no mechanism of escape from poverty will turn to crime. America has been dropping the ball for the last 30+ years. I believe in Capitalism but Capitalism with some common sense rules of fair play that allow Capitalism for the common good (as in Dalio’s era-GlassSteagall), not just for short term maximum profit for share holders at the expense of the common good of the nation. America’s people and especially our children are our greatest natural resource

outsourcing labor and automation, weak societal foundations (privatizing prisons who are incentivized to break up families and put ppl in prison, large schools debts, large health care costs, mass producing of junk/plastic that has negative impacts on our planet, etc) all play into effect what Ray is saying. Capitalism got us here to this point but we need to change the rules of the game so we can make sure everyone has equal opportunity to a full/happy life while preserving our planet. We need to reform as to how we view production/capitalism in order to evolve into the next phase of how society and the world will continue to exist.

Equal opportunity is nothing without equal advantages. You already are in disadvantage if you come from a broken family or fatherless household compared to someone who is from a stable, well off family... you already are in disadvantage if you come from a corrupt or 3rd world country compared to someone who comes from the USA, you already are in disadvantage if don't speak English and have waste time learning it in today's world etc... equal opportunity is obvious but the real equality is equal background... and this is how capitalism lured us... now it enriches only those who already were in great advantage... the rich are getting richer simply because they already had a head-start... we need to look more at psychological & social factors of inequality to determine who deserves certain opportunities more than others.

Capitalism's reach has become too pervasive. Corporate dominance is evident in almost every aspect of our societies such as media, politics, health care, education, foreign policy, and etc. Corporate interests are placed above individuals and even governments. Some wars have been fought to ensure corporate interests. Ray Dalio is brave and correct. See his full and uninterrupted interview on Bloomberg... it was much better. Taxation is a major part of the problem. When those using 90 percent of the resources and make 90 percent if the money but only pay 30 percent if the tax thst burden 60 percent in addition to thier oen is being put on the backs of someone else. Thst someone else is the middle class and poor. By doing thst you crush free flowing money. No one can afford anything so no one buys anything. That will collapse an economy. So the wealthy need to either pay a lot more in wages or the government needs to reduce its tax burden on middle class and poor. And the rich need to pay a bit more. Everyone must agree the government needs to stay within it's means and reduce the debt.

The change in capitalism is that the Fed printed trillions of dollars and lower interest rates to 0% to help out people like Ray by inflating the stock market. Meanwhile people working for wages have to suffer the consequences from these actions by having to pay skyrocketing costs of living.

Dalio speaks of growing up and being able to live the American dream through public education and working hard to achieve wealth. He also speaks of the wage gap is growing between earners. I am a plumbing contractor of 35+ years and I see what’s happening in America that’s what’s happened in my own career. I have 25 employees and I felt my job would not be replaced by Technology and moving jobs out of the country. That’s true however many fewer of my customers can no longer afford my services and that is creating an issue in my business. The wealthy are typically the ones that are being managed by these hedge funds to have excess earnings to invest in Wall Street. You millennials out there how many of you are you have your own stock broker or investing online? And no A meager 401(k) plan does not count

Ray Dalio realized that after making all that money, it does not make him happy to see too many Americans struggling to make ends meet. It sounds like capitalism forgot the equal opportunity part to enable people to have the same chances to pursue their dreams.

Dalio is right in terms of simplicity, though not sure how successfully he conveys it. If increased profits are prioritized by allocating to tilting the table further toward increasing profits, is that not the problem? If you response to increased profits is to buy more lobbyists, that's not productive investment. That is where policy and possibly legislation could affect reform. Bring back anti-trust possibly?

Central bank policy i.e. quantitative easing has given all asset owners all of the wealth. Bank bailouts was not ''capitalistic'', they were socialist and centrally planned. The only way to fight back against this systemic failure and fix the wealth gap is to seek better alternatives, where the monetary system is not political. Buy bitcoin, short the bankers

They all got hung up on the word “capitalism” and used it to derail the conversation. But Ray Dalio’s main points are correct. We can make it better, and we can definitely make it so that it includes more people.
