Ray Harryhausen, the grandfather of modern special effects. I’ll never forget seeing the Kali statue coming to life in one of the Sinbad films as a kid.

Growing up watching these films was awesome, if I ever have children, I'm going to show them the films Harryhausen made.

Ray, you are the best editor and your invention is a 1000 times better than CGI

He Didn't Invent Stop Motion but he was perhaps one of the greatest Animators ever the pioneer was his idol and mentor who truly made stop motion Willis O Brien

CGI is a far better visual animation solution when done well like Ray's films were done well. There are many examples of Stop Motion being done poorly just like CGI can be done poorly.

It's so great to hear Ray talk about his process and creative choices; he really was a brilliant artist and it's great to know his influence lives on!

Loved watching these as a little kid in the 90s. Never scared me watching them but I had LOTS of very vivid nightmares about the Cyclops chasing me.

The combination of Ray Harryhausen & Bernard Herrmann created 1 of my top 5 all-time favorite movies. The 7th Voyage of Sinbad is Magic.

It really can't be overstated how much Herrmann's score does for the film. It's some truly beautiful music.

The dragons death, like that of the Ymir in 20 Million Miles to Earth, saddened my brother and I, because we felt a deep empathy for them being harried, and abused. Ray was my hero and idol, for many decades. Still is in my old age. 👍👍& 10⭐ for all his great work in films, that entertained kids and adults around the world.

When I was a kid we loved Harryhausen movies at the kiddie Saturday matinees. My brother and I would play that we were monsters and would imitate that kind of slow paced stop-action animation. The neighbors must have thought we were two kids doing Kabuki theater!

My brother and I did too @@poetcomic1 So we wouldn't be scared by Dad, when he made all those monster sounds as we went to bed. 👍👍

It's always saddened me a little bit Harryhausen had to wait literally decades for his contributions to the world of special effects in cinema to even really be recognised. Special effects as an industry that is now so completely established with systems, processes, and practises, was effectively built on the DNA of what basically one guy was doing with clay puppets in his garage for around thirty years.

R.I.P Oh Master of the Movie Monsters! How you made our lives and dreams so much happier! An injustice that you never received an Oscar for VFX (though you did get a special one!)

"The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" is good fun, but "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad" has some of the best stop motion in any movie. "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger " had some impressive creatures as well. Impressive feats considering no CGI involved.

That's Harryhausen at his best, whatever he made; he always improved upon. The Skeleton fight? Awesome, certainly, then he made six more and had Seven of them roving around murderously at once in Jason and The Argonauts 6 years later.
