Ray Stevens - "Sgt Preston Of The Yukon" (Live on CabaRay Nashville)

On this date in 1955, the CBS television show "Sergeant Preston Of The Yukon" debuted. The program follows a Canadian Mountie named Sgt. Preston who patrols the wilds of the Yukon with his horse Rex and faithful dog Yukon King, battling both the elements & criminals. Ray's very first hit single (or an "almost hit" as he now refers to it) of the same name was released later in 1960 and was about the show. It even included Ray barking and howling as Preston's dog! Unfortunately, Ray had not gotten the rights for the character and they were forced to pull the song from release. Here is Ray performing his "almost hit" live on CabaRay Nashville!

I still watch Sergeant Preston...it was like those programs we grew up with Roy Rogers , Lone Ranger , Real M Coys...kids these days just miss alot .

Wow, that sounds so much like another of his early hits... you know, the one with the camel named Clyde & Fatima (of the Seven Veils). For the life of me (at 74 years old), I just can't remember the name of it, though.

Ray needs to add another channel, besides just the interview section on this channel, where he tells stories about his times in the music industry or just general commentary.

That was wonderful! I'm so glad to hear Mr. Stevens explain why we never hear it! I've got a good Ray Stevens greatest hits, and it's not on there, now I know why! The show had been off the air for a few years by 1960, you'd think they would have welcomed the new found attention for syndication purposes! But keep in mind, the same people that owned the rights to Sgt. Preston owned the rights to The Lone Ranger! If they would take away the mask from Clayton Moore, they would take away the song from Ray Stevens! RIP Dick Simmons and Clayton Moore.📺📻🇺🇸
