Walt Disney Animation Studios' "Raya and the Last Dragon" travels to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together in harmony long ago. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it's up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. I watched some of the "Making of Raya and the Last Dragon" on DisneyPlus and they said the culture in this movie is sort of a love letter written for many different Asian cultures all rolled into one. And slight correction, Encanto is based on Columbian culture, not Cuban. :-) Always enjoy your reactions. I always cry too. XD

34:24 She wouldn't have shot Sisu if Raya had not hit the crossbow with her sword. But because she was holding the trigger so tightly, Raya lashing out at her in fear was what made her shoot and kill Sisu. It really was an accident. That's why she says they're both to blame.

Still, Naamari was still aiming at Sisu and she still had her finger on the trigger, if she didn't she could've preventedit AND Raya would have trusted her more. It was still partly her fault, the whole situation could've even prevented if she didn't betray Raya. I'm not saying Raya was completely innocent, both of those were partly her fault too but even more so to Naamari, especially the return of the druun in the first place. What annoys me is that the movie acts like it's completely Rayas fault, we never get an apology from Naamari and it's just so forced when she does basically nothing to prove her worth to them.

Encanto is set in Colombia, not Cuba. Raya and the Last Dragon is set in a fictional world inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia (Laos, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore...).

I love this movie so much! This final scene, when all the people come together, always makes me cry. "Welcome to Kumandra" always gives me chills. So amazing! Now you need to watch BROTHER BEAR, another incredibly beautiful movie!

This was a good one. The animation is beautiful. The fight scenes were fun. My daughter had to be Raya for Halloween last year. I love Rayas relationship with her dad. Best parts.

Shooting of Sisudatu: That was Raya's fault, really. I checked the trajectory. It would have hit the tree behind them, but Raya knocked the arrow off course with her sword. Namari shouldn't have come to the exchange with her weapon, true, but if she had not had the arrow knocked over, it would have distracted her mom long enough to let them get away, fix the gem, and all of it be over. Still, I believe the ending we get is much more powerful, since this is not just a brainless action-for-action's-sake type flick. It would have been interesting if Raya had not knocked Namari's arrow off course to hear the conversation after the Druun was gone. I imagine something like... Raya: It's a good thing you missed and hit the tree, Benturi. Namari: (Looking around.) Don't tell my mom this, but... I didn't miss. I was aiming for the tree. Raya: You sneaky little... Dep la! That was brilliant!

Such a good movie. I really don't wanna be one of those people... but this movie legit embodies my biggest fear for the real world: that folks won't make lasting change for the better until things get so broken that there's absolutely no other choice. I guess we just gotta see the best in people as much as we possibly can.

I laugh, and love everytime JV hears the word Dragon just ONCE and Automatically says and connects it to the movie "How to train your Dragon ".🤣🤣 its like a running joke he probably doesn't even know he's doing. Unless he is. Lol still funny.

Actually, each fight scene in this movie is based on real life Southeast Asian martial arts Raya's fighting style is based Arnis or Eskrima from Philippines, Pencak silat from Indonesia and Muay Thai kickboxing from Thailand While Namaari for known to be antagonist of this movie has fighting style which based on Muay Thai with Krabi Krabong from Thailand for second time and also Vietnamese traditional wrestling Also, the fight scene in this movie got an award for the best choreography after research and study of each martial arts

I know it's a debated a lot but I'm sticking with she wasnt going to shoot Sicu. I think that if Raya hadn't interfered due to her lack of trust in Sicu's judgment that she would have changed her mind. Raya lashing out caused the bow to shoot the arrow...Fight me! XD

The animation of this movie is spectacular water scenes are gorgeous. When you watch the older films like Little Mermaid and see the water its amazing how in about 30-40 years the animators have come from simple 2d. I think the main problem some fans have with this film is the message which is trust. IMO this movie sets up the discussion on talk from blind trust like Sitsu to not trusting like Raya. The combing the crystal together, the group wasn’t trusting Namaari but Raya. And that trust was built over, a few days, but nevertheless had time to build. Namaari and her mother will have to a long time to rebuild trust with the other clans as they ruined everyones lives. Boun and Tong were separate from their families for how long and a baby, a BABY! Was having to survive without her mother. The overall message may have fallen for some people, but it does open the discussion on trust.

Goofy was my late grandmothers and I’s fav character. Don't drive to pick up congee; make it at home! Congee can be made with many different types of rice. Use basic white long-grain rice if you like; jasmine rice is a favorite as well. Other long-grain rice varieties like basmati can create a nice congee, and even short-grain rice will work. Common toppings for Cantonese congee include cilantro, Chinese chives, scallion, dried shrimp, ginger, orange peel, celery, and goji berry. Throughout the world, before "money" as it is today became a thing, just about everything you got from someone else "for a price" was bartered. You offer a good or service for another person's good or service. So, credit didn't exist even then. You may not have to shell out jade right this minute, but you will have to pay by either giving them something they want, that they see as of equal value, or doing something for them that they want/need done, as payment for letting you have what you asked for. In this case, the dragon gem piece.

Beginning of film: Namari betraying Raya... That's Fang for you. No stereotyping, but they're very sly, very cunning, and perfectly willing to betray anyone or anything to get what they want. Maybe before the Druun, they were better (as the world was Kumandra), but this is what they grew to be all these years later. That said, Namari LITERALLY kicking Raya in the BACK was not Fang. That was all Namari, and it was *cold-blooded.*

I think this movie would have benefitted from expanding more on the strained relationships between the regions as well as exploring each region culture, possibly as series or extending the runtime. That way we would have more understanding for the supporting cast of characters coming from each region and how they would put their trust in Raya and each other even though they come from different backgrounds. A longer runtime could also include scenes showcasing the message of trust and unity in dire times between nations and individuals who have wronged you in the past. If you want trust, you have to be willing to give a bit of trust and take that first step.

The cultures represented in this movie are supposed to be Thailand (Heart), Vietnam (Talon), India (Tail), Egypt (Fang), and I believe Mongolia or Cambodia (Spine). This movie meant a lot to me as a girl adopted from Thailand this is truly the first time I’ve seen someone in a Disney film that really looked like me, and I’m 22 years old! Honestly just seeing Raya’s face on the screen made me weep because I felt actual representation.

@@aubryellaotero1064 it’s abt Southeast Asia though… which is Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Indonesia and Philippines, South Asia is a totally diff region (p.s. Egypt is nowhere near South Asia, Egypt is in Africa…) the inspiration for Fang is actually Angkor Wat, a famous Cambodian landmark and Tail is based off the Mekong River which runs through the se Asian countries

This movie is amazing and very inspiration for all Earth. Sisu, Pranee, Amba, Jagan and big brother Pengu is wonderful family. Full pure positive magic. Sorry to mix movies, but... Are you sure you're not somehow descended from Camilo, of Encanto fame? Because you mimic Tong so well, I almost have to go back to Disney+ to watch all his scenes over again, just to see "who said that?" Dude, you mimic Tong better than Camilo mimics his own father, and Camilo is a stinkin' shapeshifter! (BTW: Camilo can shapeshift into any human, but not animals or objects. Sisudatu can shapeshift into her human form, or her dragon form, and doesn't appear to have the ability to change between them at will. Probably because that wasn't "her" magic directly. As she said, her magic is that she's a strong swimmer.)

I love this movie. Seeing this movie in theaters was my first date with my boyfriend and its blu ray release was really close to my birthday so I hammered it in my boyfriend’s head to get it for me for my birthday. What makes it funny is he really wanted to be the one that gets it for me and he was afraid I told other people I wanted it. I then told him since he’s the one who took me to see it, he earns dibs on getting it for me lol
