the voice actor for mei is also chinese, and she said that after watching the movie with her parents at the premier, their relationship with her also changed. their family dynamic was kinda similar to the family in the movie, so they all related to it a lot. her parents were super proud of her

I feel like a lot of parents who are pushed that hard as kids to be perfect sometimes unfortunately get the wrong lesson from it.

i dont think people talk enought about how good they handle the mother, like until the fight part she was just SO SCARED about the safety of her daughter, and i think alot of parents struggle with the "my own parents didnt teach me about this, so i dont know how to handle it for you, so im affraid im not a good enought parent, im affraid something bad happends to you because of this new thing i dont understand i cant risk that! , so i hate it!", in a way i love when movies teach kids that parents arent this all known being as they say, they have traumas, troubles, get confused and scared sometimes, theyre just bigger kids.

The panda just being a big parallel to puberty. Her getting bigger, hairier, smelling, the mood swings and ofc the obvious "red" aspect being linked to periods. Since they become pandas during puberty it goes hand in hand.

First Encanto and now this though. As someone with both Hispanic and East Asian heritage these two movies really spoke to all the generational trauma I have to navigate through. My relationship with my parents is... complicated... I understand that there's a lot of love there but also a lot of resentment on my end that I cannot express because I'd feel guilty if they think that they messed up a bit even though they did because I know a lot of it is also coming from how they were raised and the shame I still feel when finally getting the courage to reach out for just that little bit of help because I'm not suppose to. Millennials just putting that out there.

I LOVED this movie! Best recent Pixar movie since Inside Out to me. I loved how real and raw it was about about the 13 year old experience. It's cringe and awkward, but I'm so glad they showed it! Also, openly talking about menstruation and puberty.

The Red Panda could be generational trauma, puberty, being true to yourself-whatever you want it to be.

(it's a small thing, but the chant for the ritual isn't necessary. the shaman stated that the gma was just old fashion and that he preferred listening to a different artist's music. all that matters is that the singing came from the heart, which is why 4*Town was able to contribute with their own music, especially with the passion they gave considering the lead singer was tearing up when performing)

I love how they just immediately let Tyler into the friend group AND in the ending, you can see him with a friendship bracelet like everyone else- and we love Tyler for not being the toxic boy who thinks boy bands are too girls or whatever-

"So many people will relate to this movie" lol the irony of that title considering the volume of negative reviews that say "I cAn'T ReLaTe tO tHiS FiLm CaUsE I'm NoT aSiAn oR a TeEnAgE GiRL sO tHiS iS a BaD FILM!!!" which is just 🙄🙄🙄

I have a very sad relationship with my dad, he lives with us but he’s a super narcissist even though I’m an adult now I’m super fucked up because of him. The amount of mental (and financial) abuse we go through is insane! It made me cry how wholesome Mei’s dad is and how he smiled when he saw her video with her friends, my dad would’ve humiliated me for years that man literally NEVER missed an opportunity to humiliate us and make us feel worthless

Turning Red is the best Pixar film I’ve seen in a long time! The previous films (Soul and Luca) didn’t quite “wow” me like this one did. The characters are fun, the story is engaging, and the music/songs are really cool. Even the emotional moments got me real good. Overall, Turning Red is a wonderful Pixar film in my opinion, I love it!
