Finally, the in-depth review I've actually been waiting for. Another important point: All Non-US versions of the Razer Blades (non-base models) don't have the secondary function key symbols which light up. This is not advertised on their websites (where they always have the US keyboard layout promo pictures on display). So as I'm living in the UK, I ordered mine from the US instead. Also I can confirm: only the 240Hz QHD panel has Advanced Optimus.

Thanks Jarrod. I tested these on a new youtube channel I started consumertechwarehouse. I’m getting virtually identical scores on red dead on even the GE76 3080 Ti. Was looking forward to your review because I was going crazy testing and retesting. I was expecting a bigger gap on the gaming side. The only big swings I saw was at 1080p and that’s mainly due to the difference between the i9 in the GE76 and the i7 in the blade 17 QHD

Having owned a Razer 15 and 17, neither will disappoint - the 15 is a great general laptop for all needs (obviously gaming) and a lot easier if you are on the move a lot. In contrast, the 17 has more of the ‘wow’ factor and is undoubtedly better for gaming, specifically. I guess it depends what your priority is. For me, the 15 all the way!

I have this laptop and I am enjoying it so far. One thing I learned - is that the restoration media Razer will provide does not include the Intel RST driver. If you want to run raid1 or raid0 with a pair of NVME you either have to do a clean install of Windows and provide the RST driver, or insert the driver into the Razer restore media. If you put it into the media you have to insert it into both the WindowsRE environment as well as the Windows Image the media restores.

My unit with the 1440p 240hz had really bad contrast when looking at some websites, specially on things with a white background with dark gray letters (not a good UI design, but a lot of sites use it), making it hard to read the text, I returned it just for that reason. Since this is a gaming laptop, I would also mention the keyboard is pretty decent if you play any rhythm games with your laptop. Normally, I would have to use an external mechanical keyboard for rhythm games, but this was good enough to not need one if I'm traveling.

I think with software you can make it so that, when the laptop detects that it's connected to power, use the higher refresh rate, and when it's unplugged, use it at, for example, 60 hz. with custom batch files and something like auto hot key to press fn+r when the charger is not detected

Hell Jarrod! Thanks so much for the review, it is very informative and helpful! I just purchased this laptop because it was hugely reduced, and I am a bit disappointed with the speakers, especially with the bass... I mean I can start hearing the bass on my iphone from 30Hz while on this laptop with '4subwoofers' it only starts from around 70Hz... Would it be possible to include in your reviews the speakers' frequency response, or at last to give an idea what are the covered frequencies that you can hear? I think it would help very much and would characterize very well the speakers in any laptop.

@Jarrod'sTech Thanks for a comprehensive and detailed review - as always. I was waiting for this one. I want to make my boss to buy new laptop, and so far this seems the best option in it's category: 17" 16:9 fast 1440p display / Thunderbolt 4 / HDMI 2.1 Money no object - is it the best? Or should I wait for XMG PRO 17? Any other models (from creators side for example) come to mind? Lastly - should I hope that there will be AMD 6000 laptops with similar specs and Thunderbolt 4? Many thanks, keep up the good work :) !

Hey, I think I helped you out in Discord? Otherwise it was something with a very similar question haha. Not sure if I'll be covering the new Pro 17, it seems quite niche. Depends how much you care about portability, as something like GE76 is better performance-wise but also thicker and heavier. There are new 17" with more CPU power coming in May.

BUYER BEWARE - I have the 2019 17" pro version of this laptop. Looking at the one being reviewed i see that it has the same fatal flaw as mine. The 3 pin charge adaptor on the left side of the laptop is Razer proprietary and i have not been able to find one on ebay or ali express. On my laptop the pins inside the charge adapter snapped due to wear. I heard a clicking sound each time and the pins snapped. Contacting Razer support they refused to send me the part or give a repair price. Apparently I would have to send away the laptop potentially for several months in order for them to name me a price. So what i am saying is they have customers over a barrel ,the connector is proprietary and not available anywhere. This is an expensive laptop and there was no way I would send it off and be left hanging like that. Anyway I fixed mine with a couple of brass rods from model scenery supplies and a lot of careful soldering. If you can't do this then don't buy one of these as it is a timebomb and with their refusal to even consider simply sending me a replacement part then they are ripping you off. Apple may be bad but at least Ebay is chock full of parts for them salvaged from already failed machines with these you have to actually repair the components yourself.

Hey Jarrod, I am thinking about buying a laptop, probably GE76 and I thought it would be a good idea to place it on a stand and put some 120mm fans underneath it for extra circulation of air. Do you think this will be better than a cooling pad?
@sohailbarvar7817
@sohailbarvar7817 2 жыл бұрын
Cooling pads don't make much of a difference for most laptops unless they don't have enough room underneath. And I see no reason why someone would want larger fans underneath their laptop. It won't push more air into your laptop like a case the idea of cooling pad is just keeping the intake air cool.

I had the 2019 version with the 2080. The new model with a 1440P display and 12th gen intel seems to solve both of the problems I had with mine. 1080P was not quite enough to tax the 2080 and the mobile i7 was the biggest limiting factor in gaming performance.

@@MaDFroG88 I think some of those comments were overblown. It's going to run hot because it's still a laptop. There are other gaming laptops that are less portable and have better thermals but that's always a trade-off with X86 laptops. I found the performance of mine to be great and based on reviews as well as personal experience, the 9th gen i7 performed about on par with other ultra-premium notebooks in the same price range. Razer definitely made a choice to prioritize a thin, attractive design at the expense of the best possible performance but thee was plenty of headroom for the 2080 in the model I had. I'd love to try the new 12th gen model with the QHD display as that seems like it would really be a better configuration than what was available in 2020 when I bought mine.

First of all, thank you for the great reviews. No sugar coating or getting emotional. :) I have the i9 version for a couple of weeks now and I wanted to add my remarks. - I got it over others due to the more professional look, as I am a developer and I used to have a thick and large MSI Titan previously which often received giggles and funny reactions from the people at the office, so this time I decided to get something more "normal looking". - Unfortunately, the performance is not different from the i7 version, except the single core. CPU temperature easily reaches 100°C under load. I am still in discussion with Razer support if that is normal. Benchmark scores are all over the place. I have seen both ~8700 and ~13800 in Time Spy CPU results. Since one week, I am asking for an explanation from Razer about this (and the 100°C) but no luck so far. They also told me that, if I repaste, my warranty will be void. So waiting. - I installed Fedora Linux 36 (Beta) with kernel 5.17 and in Optimus mode everything I tested works. In dGPU only mode, the screen brightness cannot be adjusted. There is a kernel driver to control the performance options like the Synapse on Windows and after small updates to the code for this model, I was able to boost the CPU and the GPU and control the fans. - The BIOS is a complete disappointment. I like the screen and working on it but the unstable performance is irritating at this price.

Can someone explain to me why gaming laptops nowadays have minimal ports? I got my 2016 model laptop in 2017 and it has 4 USB ports, one USB c thunderbolt, one HDMI, 2 mini display ports, one vga port, multi card reader, audio out/in and mic ports, Ethernet port and that weird port that lights up red I think it's optical or something. I may have also not mentioned one or two more ports. I paid 2400 for this laptop back in 2017. Modern laptops that cost 4k don't have half the ports mine does. What's up with that? Also why do modern laptops have very minimal ventilation vents on the bottom? The bottom of the laptop I mentioned has vents covering nearly the entire bottom side and even the left right and back has vents.
