Mod works great. I used a Noctua y splitter to power the psu and case fan instead of soldering to the pins on the board.

I just finished installing this mod. Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone. That fan noise was driving me (and especially my wife) crazy. The noise level of the noctua fan compared to the stock psu fan is a night and day difference. If it wasn’t for your video I would have bought a replacement psu instead. You saved me over $100 my friend! I can’t thank you enough.

Just did this mod on my Razer Core X with be Quiet! fans. It is now dead silent. Mod was quick and easy to do, and as you don't really need to do anything inside the open PSU (the 80mm fan can be loosened from the outside), it was not to dangerous either. The video wasn't clear on unhooking the stock 80mm fan from the PCB. Luckily it unhooks easily, by just pulling its cable after cutting a single cable strip - no need to put your fingers in there. Thanks for sharing!

thank you @WHCVIP for making this video! Please excuse me if this is common knowledge, at 11:30, I have figured out that the right pin is ground and the left one is the 5v pin. Could you explain how you connected the fan pins? Did you solder it? What is the transparent fluid at 11:30 ? What steps should I take to properly connect the fan pins?

Great tutorial. Just finished it in a similar fashion. Because he mentioned 5v fan headers, I thought I'd get 5v fans. That's a mistake, ha. Those fans run full blast at 5v. So use the 12v PWM fans he has linked. Those work great. Note be extra careful when working around the PSU. It's very deadly.

Really great video, thank you, and rather annoying that we have to do this to make something which is displayed next to a Mac mini, SILENT (Sorry, I shouted there). Razor should reimburse us for the price of the fans..I would let them off the time to undertake the MOD :-). Yes, I know, I'm a soft bugger at heart....

@WHCVIP Great video. You spoke about reversing the case fan and getting bad results but what about reversing the PSU fan? Not a fan of positive fan pressure setups but don't know if the unit will overheat if the PSU has air drawn from it rather than into it.

Hello WHCVIP Great Video, Can I ask if from your mod the 80mm fan at 5v as good speed or enough speed to keep the PSU cool while gaming or rendering? Is your test show the PSU isn't overheating? Must add that I did your mode but slightly different...I split the board fan header with Y cable splitter and now this is really Quiet :) Only left with a question to you or others that did this mod.." is the 80mm at 5v fan as good speed or enough speed to keep the PSU cool under load"? Thanks.

Power supplies contain electrical comparators that can retain a strong electrical charge even when disconnected from external power. It can be dangerous so don't modify a PSU unless you have experience working on electronics and know what you're doing.

Thank you so much for this video! I just replaced the larger fan with the Noctua NF-A12x25 FLX. This lowered the noise level by a few decibels but the Razer PSU is still too loud. So I definitely will also replace the fan inside the Razer PSU with the 80mm one you recommend. Just one question before I do. You say the voltage is enough to kill someone. That makes sense for sure. However, if there is no power connection (in other words no single cable is connected to the Razer Core , zero current etc) there is no risk during disassembly right? I'm quite sure this a stupid question but I would just want this to be confirmed 100%. Thank you!

I'm in the middle of doing this right now but I'm stuck at the PSU part. I've removed the PSU from the case and all the screws on the PSU, but I just can't open it. There's two little catches, one on the top and one on the bottom. It's this that's holding it down. I can see these catches on your PSU cover too but you skipped past how you dealt with these. Would you mind sharing what you did to pry it open?

The 2 PIN Connection is 5V GND But a 3 Pin or 4 Pin Fan Header is 5V RPM GND 5V RPM GND PWM So you basically tried to use the RPM header as GND which obviously didn’t work. just wanted to share this info with you. You can easily switch the pins of the Fan Header around by applying pressure on the back and pulling out the leads.

Hey, I have the same exact GPU and enclosure and I noticed when setting it up today that both fans seem to blow inward. What did you do to remedy this? Maybe it is intentional, to try to push the air our the vented area by the power supply, but it seems very inefficient...
@microchub
@microchub 5 жыл бұрын
*SOLUTION BELOW!* Well I already figured it out - here's what I did for anybody interested in doing the same. I would highly recommended you do this to ensure you don't have positive pressure/heat buildup inside the enclosure. Just figure out which way your fans spin on your GPU. If you have the right screwdriver for the M3 Phillips head screws that hold the fan in place, you can take them all off and turn the fan around to reverse airflow. *ONLY* use a bit that fits perfectly in the screws, and be *VERY* careful. It's super easy to strip them - I was incredibly delicate and I still had paint and metal shavings come off my screws. No need to unplug the fan power connector from the board or to remove the cable from the wire management straps that are already in place, you won't need to - it will just cause you more headaches anyway, especially the power connector. Simply pivot the fan around the cable without stressing the cable itself, then screw it back in. The metal studs on the frame that the screws go into make it tough to wiggle back on (and a little tough to take off, too) so be cautious of that. Don't over-torque the screws or you're screwed. hah, get it? okay ill stop. Either way, good luck. If you have questions, let me know. My GPU is running significantly cooler now, the fans run quieter and the outer enclosure no longer feels like I could fry an egg on top. If you strip a screw, I believe they are 200mm if you need to get a new one. I would double check though, that's just what I remember seeing. Tl;dr: Don't burn out your GPU, get that güd airflow baby.
