I had the idea to build a radio controlled bat for the Halloween season. I found a photo of a flying fox, taken from directly beneath it, and used its wing outline as the template for the wing design, while doing a freehand outline for the body. Wingspan is 25.5 inches, and overall length is 11 inches. I used a Flite Test EZ Powerpack for the model. The breeze this morning was gentle out of the east, which had the unfortunate side effect of needing to toss the bat with the view into the sun. Results from these first flight tests is that it does fly, but the design needs refinement. It seems there is a very limited "sweet spot" on the throttle setting. Overall, the tests were encouraging enough that I'm not giving up on the idea, but it's not yet ready to call a working design.
