This was an excellent video, much need on KZfaq. When people see what goes into anything hand done they are usually more than willing to shut up and pay. Your warnings were excellent as well about the material, probably saved lives😀👍🏼

So you have a lot of respect for the beryllium, and use an airfilter to protect yourself. But then at the same time you then have a open cup with ice tea, which you drink from. Its never a good idea to consume anything in a workshop where you can contaminate it with hazardous materials.
@KevinTodd
@KevinTodd 6 жыл бұрын
And you are correct........ I looked at that myself and it was not tea good call..........Chronic Beryllium Disease, sometimes called berylliosis, is an immunological lung disease caused by exposure to beryllium. ... Exposure to beryllium via inhalation of airborne beryllium or skin contact with beryllium-containing dust, fume, mist, or solutions can cause health effects.

Joel Delpaso mineral to be tested, or touch the bead to some of the powdered material. Heat again to decompose the sample. Dissolve the melt in 6-8 drops of (1:1) hydrochloric acid contained in a small test tube by placing the platinum wire and bead in the acid and warming. Cool the solution, and add 2 drops of either quinizarin or 1-amino-4-hydroxyanthraquinone. After addition of the dye, do not expose the solution to sunlight as strong light decomposes the dye and ruins the test. Add sodium hydroxide dropwise until the solution is purple. Avoid an excess, as this destroys the test. Expose the solution to ultra-violet light in a darkened room and examine for fluorescence._ Ifberyllium is present a strong orange-red fluorescenc

Holy crap, I just read up on Beryllium, that stuff is naaasty! Pretty sure I learned about it some time or other, but planning to buy some unbalanced props and getting that Beryllium reminder from you was perhaps a literal lifesaver! :o LoL I`m so glad I always research everything before I start, sheesh.. Thanks for the heads up bud ;)

I’ve actually done this, I took precautions as well. I agree about the balancer how they’re not that accurate. I got mine cheap at OSE. The only thing about DIY sharpening and balancing is it’s very tedious and time consuming.

Hi Chris, Possibly to just show other uneducated DIY'rs how a prop that is out of balance will make the shaft vibrate/wiggle resulting in the inefficiency and loss of energy. Chris, I hear your the guy up in NY to talk to when it comes to custom props! Kevin...thanks for the video and taking time to show safety concerns!

When you sharpen your prop blade do you do both sides front and back or just the back side. I always thought you weren't supposed to touch the front Leading Edge side.
@KevinTodd
@KevinTodd 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late come back......you want the prop to pierce the water as clean as possible without cavitation......you remove material from the back to balance the prop so the edge is to the front..........knife sharpener is to remove the kerf......that's all...... now this only makes a difference in surface drive (RC boat , offshore racing boat and Vietnamese long tail boats) submerged drive boats ( tug , outboard and ocean liners) you sharpen different ........thank you for watching

What are the symptoms of an unbalanced propeller when driving the boat at 60 to 100% what would I notice if it was unbalanced
@KevinTodd
@KevinTodd 5 жыл бұрын
You will notice your strut bushing wearing out fast. With worn bushing you can get vibrations in the boat , motor, engine and radio box bolts will become loose and when running you will cavitate and slip the prop.
