Great Video, well explained! I think a buggy is good for beginner. Fast and for multiple undergrounds. But I think the Neo Fighter or the Sand Viper is the better choice because you get more for the money. Don't forget to buy ball bearings (Sand Viper package includes ball bearings). Best wishes from south Germany!

Excellent bit of information Gavin!! 👍👍 I'm a few Decades from Novice.... but I found this so good, that I've added it to my Video List "RC Tips and Tricks". 😃 Servo selection can be dizzying! I knew a guy who built his first, a Hornet. Good choice.... but he thought if a standard Servo was good - a 25kg Crawler Servo must be better!! 😳 He brought the poor Buggy to me, after RIPPING APART the Steering Knuckles!!! (He also wasn't aware of end point adjustments!) 😖 So with people just starting out in this day of massive choice and minimal information... I would add, PLEASE try to find someone who knows enough to guide you in the right direction! Carmine ✈🚂🚙
@RCKickschannel4 жыл бұрын
I will do a second video soon to follow up. Good point about the servo mistake of going super strong and not setting end points. Also want to talk about bearings and what are some good first upgrades.
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks4 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that mistake has happened more than once.... You are a good Presenter! I've been on KZfaq since 2008, and I know my Channel will never be big, because I'm not! 😖 I'm okay with that though... I do remember starting out, in late 83, with the Frog. I can only wish I could get another, even re-re. But my situation has been BAD for several years. I can't even buy parts. I'm coming to terms with it, best as I can. I do have experience, and happily share that with whoever may need it. Feels good to help new people in the Hobby, NOT make the mistakes that I made..... Especially pre-Internet!! 😳 Gavin..... Can you BELIEVE that Tamiya STILL offers their new Kits with *PLASTIC BUSHINGS!!??* 😳😡😠 Even in the Konghead, with 5 gazillion Gears! SMH

Great video Gavin!!!. Lots of good information there. I think the grasshopper is perfect for a first kit. I also believe........... The grasshopper is Tamiya’s greatest ever kit.... pound for pound I mean. It’s the one that got so many people into the hobby. Think of how many they have sold over the years!!!!. It’s easy to build it’s easy to maintain and it’s cheap. But most of all it’s just pure and simple great great fun!!!!. And that’s what it’s all about!!!

Going to say the esc . Some if its a brushless one could be a case of only having forwards.. and no reverse.. something that might need a program card. The same for like as example a hobbywing 1080. Used in crawlers. That it can be programmed to run a certain way. More power or less . Electronic brakes..

paul Anthony I wasn’t referring to cost point. Having brushless 90k/hr cars & buggies I definitely enjoy breaking out an older slower brushed rC and just having some fun. You would be quite surprised how quick you can get a brushed car going with a 2s and high speed gearing. I recently built a TA05 with stock silver can, high speed gears & 2s and it cracked 70k/hr.

Can't help noticing one slight omission. Not an essential of course but something to think about. Paint. Now I already owned an FTX Vantage buggy which came ready to run so I already had a transmitter so I just bought another receiver for it. Not a memory based TX so you do have to bind them before racing but since I can only drive one car at a time, well ........ lol. So, £12 for a receiver and £8 for the steering servo and £15 for a battery. Not expensive at all. The kit I bought (having watched your build first of course) was the Tamiya Lunchbox. It came with a Tamiya ESC in the box so one less expense and the ESC it came with supports both brushed and brushless motors so a neat upgrade path already included. One other thing I bought (because most build channels I follow suggest it is by way of an essential if you are serious) was a set of proper metal bearings! Can't argue with that, cheap enough if you go unbranded, the set of 10 for the Lunchbox cost me about £8 with postage. The build was easy enough since I've been an electronics hobbyist for 40+ years and the included instructions are easy to follow. It ran perfectly straight away so definitely one for a beginner because you do want a successful build. Then we got onto the bit I really didn't care for. Painting it. The wheels were a horrid yellow so they had to go. Now they are a nice metallic blue. The extra paints to complete the model are quite an expense even if you are not going with the box art. Just a little something to think about if you are starting out. Painting isn't essential of course but if you want a nicely finished car ...... One last thing - I bought everything (except for the upgrade bearings) from my local RC hobby shop as it is important to support these shops as they will give you the after sales service essential if you are serious about the hobby.
@RCKickschannel4 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, I’m going to do a second video to cover painting and what’s required as well as first upgrades like bearings, suspension and that kind of thing.
@SpeccyMan4 жыл бұрын
@@RCKickschannel Good to know cos the stock suspension on the Lunchbox is a pile of unmentionable. I really did not enjoy the painting but that might well be due to the fact I am arthritic and found it a pain in more ways than one.

Two great cars! I like the Top Force myself but I think the dark impact could just about beat it for reliability but it’s close. When you say rough terrain both cars can do OK but don’t go too rough as ground clearance will start to be an issue.

I would never suggest any tamiya as a first RC. They are so expensive and fragile compared to the contemporary marketplace. Calling any tamiya "bomb proof" is a hilarious and disingenuous statement. People new to RC need to understand this is what a fanboy looks like. I'm not saying it's bad, when I want to see a certain tamiya car I watch this dude. He knows tamiyas inside and out. When I want objectivity I do not watch this guy. I'm just looking out for newbies. If you buy a tamiya for your first RC you won't have a good time 9 times out of 10. Once you get it built, probably after breaking several fragile pieces on assembly, it's fun for about 30 seconds then it requires more money. Then you end up with an upgraded car that explodes if a stiff breeze hits it.
@HokuraChan01062 жыл бұрын
The fragile part: *could agree* Expensive?: 93$ USD for a rising fighter could be worth it… it’s literally a *asshopper* reskin but like *5-7* dollars cheaper
