It depends on your goal a low bar/safety is going to be a bit more on your posterior chain. Highbar and especially fronts will target your quads more.

Great stuff. Amazed the hamstrings were not mentioned unless you consider them as hip stabilizers. Similar to stiff legged deadlifts we do RDLs to emphasize the posterior chain and certainly to put the hamstrings under tension at a stretch. Since low bar squats have over the years compromised my shoulders I do more SSB Squats and Trapbar DL/Squats cycle in RDLs and or Rack Pulls combined with Rows to balance things out. I definitely feel the pump in my hips and hamstrings. Next day I can feel it also in my upper back. Anyway, great videos, thank you.

Depends on how you do them. With a trap bar you can do an RDL, you can do a heel elevated trapbar deadlift for quads, you can do stiff legged deadlift, you can do normal trapbar deadlift. Trapbars dont limit your range of motions and allow your knees to travel further forward so normal trap bar DL would be a bit more quad depending on your structure.

Stiff Leg Deadlift vs RDL would be good!! I’m trying to figure out which one would be better for hamstrings. The moment arm for the RDL is larger so there’s more torque being applied at the hip joint compared to a SLD where your focus isn’t shifting the hips back, if anything the hip joint is a lot closer to the line of force, less torque at the hip, you’re mainly focusing on spinal flexion. However my hamstrings blow up a lot more with the SLD so I’m confused.

When knees are extended during SLDL, Hamstrings are in their lengthened range i.e, Hip flexion - Knee extension. Therefore, Puts more emphasis on Hamstrings. But when you flex your knees during RDL, Hamstrings are in the mid range i.e, Knee flexion - Hip flexion and according to the bi articular muscle theory, A bi articular muscle can't produce enough force when it's shortened on one end and lengthened on the other 'simultaneously'. And hamstrings are bi articular muscles - They articulate at the knee and hip joint. As a result, The glutes take over during RDLs.

@@MeleDrummer The knee doesn't bend in sldl. Keep in mind though, the knee doesn't bend forward in an rdl like in a squat. it hinges at same time with hips.

A good idea can be standing vs sitting , i feel better doing exercises while sitting because am a novice and my core sucks , momentum , stretch , focus , a bench helps a lot SALUDOS !!

Can do a video on low bar squats as my wrist get cocked back on the descent which is bizarre as even my friends want to do and demo it it's hard for them to do so

Wouldnt torque be the same since with conventional deadlift you would use more weight? RDL has longer moment arm but less weight is used

I love the objectivity and to second what Glenn said, what about Trap Bar deadlifts & Trap Bar RDLs? Also, is there a way to bring the hips/hamstrings to failure with RDLs? Me and everyone I know always give out on the spinal erectors first. I know low back failing first on RDLs is something commonly believed in the fitness world but maybe you have an uncommon take on the matter like you do for a lot of things.

I personally find the trap bar RDL far superior to the BB RDL. I never do BB RDL. The center of gravity is much more spine friendly and I can feel my hams much better. I do both BB and trap bar deadlifts every other month. The same argument can be made for the trap bar deadlift. The TB deadlift is a bit more quad dominant which I like because I have long legs and arms relative to the torso. This means I am quite stronger in the posterior chain than (hams and glutes) than the anterior chain (quads). Try it and see what works best for you.

Regarding going to failure I never do that on RDL and deadlift. I use safer isolation exercises for that (leg curl, Nordic ham curl etc)

In what exercise order should these be put in on leg day? Oddly, the more fried my quads are, makes it hard to hold my knees in the slightly bent position.

I think it should be put in a place dependent on how you want to prioritize your glutes/hamstrings/erectors. They are a compound movement for all those muscles so you can do them first. Do them first before squats if it matters more to you imo. On my 2 leg days I prioritize quads first and the other I do glutes/erectors/hamstrings first. I do my RDLS on my quad prioritization day after squats because I like a higher rep range for them and they feel better (and are safer for me) when I get some blood flowing and warm up my joints.

@@EvsPersonal - I'd personally say you want to be prioritising (or atleast having more volume) on your posterior leg than your anterior. Too much quad work, now bare in mind too much work doesn't mean necessarily just volume, it also means intentisty, or work capacity on the quad (this all equates to workload) may cause ATP (anterior pelvic tilt) due to the quads becoming overly dominant and literally pulling the hips forward/down. This can force some lordosis (excessive concave curvature) of the lumbar spine, this can cause plenty of unwanted side effects, cause issues to the upper spinal sectors etc. Now, on the flip side you can get PPT (posterior pelvic tilt) from excessive work on your hams and glutes but.. The chance of this happening is extremely slim vs the chance of ATP caused by too much workload on the quads which happens much more often. With my clients, I always 1.2-1.7 times the amount of pull work vs push work in their training blocks (this may be altered to a even ratio during certain cycles of their training block, maybe if they are working some sort of movement pattern specialisation or something of that nature) I do this purely as a means of keeping solid posture. It's each to their own and if you find prioritising your quads over glute and hams and you have no ATP issues then keep doing it mate. @@DDB-91 I agree that more often than not, people have more dominant anterior side of the legs than posterior. I didn’t want to make that assumption in my comment because I do not know the persons body or their goals. Sometimes people want more dominant quads and don’t care about the evenness of their legs. Even if it comes with imbalances and risk of injury. I would never program that for someone though. I think it’s smart that you program more posterior work on the body than anterior. The majority of people who work out and don’t work out have more dominant anterior muscles. Which as you know, causes a ton of issues. Hope the best for you as well 👍

HOw much does the feel of the stretch in the hamstrings come into play? I've seen a person totally folding over at the hips because they do not feel the stretch (no neutral spine). Any thoughts?

if you do it right you'll feel the stretch. The movement ends where your hip flexion end range finishes, don't loose your neutral spine
