To the people saying you shouldn’t add fish the same day. Watch a few of Kevs videos and you’ll see you can add fish the same day with a few tricks and some experience. Now to the fish police who say you can’t? This isn’t 20 years ago when there were hardly any products to effectively help start a cycle on a tank. I’m a huge believer in Stability, I’ve been using it for years and it’s an amazing product. I like Kevin have done this before and not lost a single fish.

Hey great job on the 75 g ! This is a great channel for beginners to learn the right way by following your steps anyone can achieve a successful & stable aquarium . I am no beginner but I have learned so much from you and since switching to Prime ( thanks for that too ) it was my eye opener that this was something special . That turned out to be the same for each & every Seachem product on my planted tank journey time & time again , I have learned many things in with my aquatic hobby and #1 is to keep it consistent ( thanks for that one Kev ) Now I find time to sit back and observe like nothing else matters but what is going on in my tanks and testing my water ( thanks for that one my Man ) I know I'm not always getting or having everything picture perfect but being patient enough to know and follow your plan , that same easy to follow plan , w/ your tips and tricks to guide me and fish people all over the world ! My go to method to get new sand clean a battery drill with drywall mud mixer gets ALL the particles out of sand so there won’t be any cloudiness , nice fish

I use the garden hose with spray nozzle to rinse the substrate. Just running water over it won’t penetrate all the way through. Gotta get you hands in there and live the sand around. Just set my 90g back up a few weeks ago. Was crystal clear in just a few hours.

Kev it does matter how many hours you clean the water. I use buckets and an outdoor hose and clean it for two days! I never had that cloudy water as yours . When I finish and put the water in the tank it's almost done and after starting the filter on in a few hours it's crystal clear! I also do thet hard work , because it is hard for your waist and back, because if you let all this dirt inside it will never go away and every time you siffon your sand it will rise up again and again . Just noticing that. Respect.

awesome video but wish it could have came out a few days ago because I just ordered from snake river cichlids for more African cichlids the other day. I was asking the facebook group do they have any discount codes and no luck lol. Yo Kev!..crazy stuff going on in my new Cichlid tank ..I have only had fish in there for 2 weeks and the other night I noticed my convict cichlid had babies …what a mess …now the 2 convicts are chasing everyone else away …I have my old 29 gallon almost ready ..going to be fun trying to catch all those tiny babies but I have to get them out of there …going to move the babies and the mom and dad out

Is it possible for me to switch my gravel to this sand with the fish still in the tank ? How would I go about making this change ? I have access to all the Seachem products you use on hand I’ve just taken over a African Cichlid tank and I’m going about using your methods as it is simplified and most easiest for me to understand. no reason to...unless its aragonite or crushed coral used to increase water hardness. In that case yes, it will need to eventually be replaced.

YOu should use prime during every water change to dechlorinate the water. Stability is only needed if the tank is currently cycling. Once it is cycled you dont need to continue using stability. Watch this - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msyoppt-qdK7hmw.html

Kev, does sand substrate prevent cichlids from dramatically rearranging the substrate so that one can see the bottom of the tank or is there another option?

Nothing will prevent them from rearranging lol It happens even with sand.

Does anyone else have issues with Brown algae growing on your surfaces?…I’ve only had the tank going for maybe 2 weeks now and I can already see the substrate , Decor and glass developing it …I bought the tank used and it came with the light …could it maybe be the type of light that’s being used?…and no I don’t keep the light on all day …usually 8-10 hours max

Hi that’s completely normal in a new aquarium, mine lasted about 2 months then gradually went away only to be replaced with green algae 😬 The joys of fish keeping!

Hey! Was wondering, is there a way to up the bio load in the tank? I’m running a seschem 75 and a sponge filter in my 50, got 6 Cory’s, 2 dwarf gouramis..wanting to add more just wanting to make sure my tank can handle it. Is it simply adding bacteria like stabilize or what else can I do?

Bacteria only grow to the amount needed. Meaning, more fish, more ammonia, more bacteria will grow. Adding Stability will help in the SPEED that bacteria grows. As long as you have sufficient bio-media with "space" for the extra bacteria to grow on, the eventually will.

You can get away with smaller peacocks in a 29g but I agree with Kev a 40 breeder is your best bet 😉 most breeder of Africans use 55-75g tanks but a 40b minimum

I was thinking the same thing!!! I always rinse my sand outside with the hose no matter how cold it is. And there's always a pile of it on the ground no matter how careful I am. If all the sand that ended up on the ground from all the buckets I've rinsed ended up in my pipes....UGH!

I normally would do that, but outside water is turned off in the winter up here. So tub is the only way to go. The sand that does make into the drain has never caused an issue in all my years of winter washing substrate in the tub 😁

Dude at least go with nutrients rich substrate. Nothing gonna work beside beginner stem plant and weekly dosing of liquid fertilizer. Anubis Java fern and floating plant. Doesn't worth it skipping money on substrate.
