I'm now doing the same thing with my 2006 Lowe 16.5' aluminum fishing boat. The boards are all still good, so I can re-use them. But I'll have to replace the driver's seat. Keeping it docked 24/7 for five straight summers without a mooring cover (not available for this boat) took its toll. The carpeting was not as bad as your dad's, but it was bad enough. I'm wondering if fiberglassing the boards before putting the new carpet down would be worth the trouble. So far, $0 spent, but I'll have to get a new seat, carpet, glue, etc. Hope I can keep it to around $350. It's only November, so I won't be using the boat until April or May. I have lots of time.
@GoMidwestFishing9 ай бұрын
If you leave your boat out in the weather, then it probably wouldn't hurt to do something to protect it. A simple water sealant might be much easier to do. Something like Thompsons water seal. Just paint it on and your done. Good luck!

No better feeling than a restored car or boat. Would like to know the type of glue and carpet and where you ordered from
@GoMidwestFishing2 жыл бұрын
I got the carpet from Menards. Its just indoor/outdoor carpet. They now sell auto/marine carpet. I bought some for my new boat project and it was only like $0.59/sq ft. It comes in a 6 foot wide roll instead of 12 feet. Menards sells the buckets of glue right there where you buy the carpet. Make sure the glue says "for indoor/outdoor carpet."

Did your casting deck just screw down or was there rivets to cut out as well ? Thanks
@GoMidwestFishing Жыл бұрын
Hi Ed. It was just screwed down, but the screw heads were hard to find because they are buried into the carpet.
@coloradogix50162 жыл бұрын
On the pieces that you had to screw down, were you able to hide the screws under the carpet, like it was from the factory? I’m doing pretty much this exact project, and I can’t figure out how to hide the screws.
@GoMidwestFishing2 жыл бұрын
I think your asking about the boards we carpeted and then screwed down. We put the carpet on the board, then put them in place and screwed them down right through the carpet. The screw heads get buried down into the carpet and you don't even see them. Believe me, I tried to remove a couple screws and couldn't easily find them.
@nicholasboyd76584 жыл бұрын
When you installed the floor carpet did you role the edges on the sides or just cut it? Great job!
@GoMidwestFishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the comment. We cut the carpet a few inches bigger than it needs to be, then started gluing it down. When we got to the edge, we pushed the corner tight and cut it with a razor. It does not go up the side of the boat.
@09ironman1 Жыл бұрын
What Staples and staple gun you use
@GoMidwestFishing Жыл бұрын
I used a rigid staple gun from home depot. It used narrow crowned staples. I believe they were 1/2 inch staples. Just make sure the staples are shorter than the thickness of your wood.

I wonder if there is an alternative to carpet?
@GoMidwestFishing2 жыл бұрын
There sure is. A vinyl flooring is popular right now. My Father-in Law ripped out all the carpet and wood flooring in his boat and installed a solid aluminum floor and painted it.

Hi Lonny. My Father-in law did that with his boat. It was a big project and obviously cost a whole lot more, but looks really nice. My Dad just needed a quick and cheap update to his boat, and since he was funding it, that's what he got.
