Today we're in the workshop looking at an early James Purdey shotgun from the 1920s. This gun is in need of a new joint pin, a result of almost a century of use! Rupert talks us through the process of fitting a new joint pin, and we get a closer look at what goes on in the workshop.

Thanks for the video series. I have a couple Winchester model 21's and have had this done to one of them. When they were building the guns rebuilding was something that the factory anticipated and made oversize joint rolls as well as oversize locking bolts in I believe 4 progressive sizes. My particular gun was built in 1940 and the original owner was a serious waterfowl hunter. It wasn't really loose before rebuilding but at the time I used it on the clay courses a good amount and given that use case the gunsmith recommended the extra service. Given the amount of mechanical work I was having done it wasn't a big stretch to have the additional work done. The gun is now about as tight as a modern target O/U and will outlast me. There are still 3 steps of oversize parts to go before serious metal work would need to be done.

Hi, I enjoyed the video greatly. I know this was two years ago but could you please tell me where you got the paraffin lamp you are using to smoke the barrells? I am lookign for something similar for my own use. Many thanks

Geat video. Thanks for making/posting. One question: Are the caps for the disc-set strikers set below the line of the standing breech?
