I remember being at work and saying I can’t do this- my then manager saying. There’s no such thing as I can’t- hasn’t your mum ever told you this. The right word is I CAN. I remember feeling really sad, as I was never encouraged despite always seeking love and support and validation from my parents- whatever I did as an invisible child was never good enough.

Ohno. My parents never sat down & listened to me...just did not happen. I can remember at 14 yo I was in my room. I was quietly crying, wondering why I was so alone. Now at 74 I am getting the answers.

En + coeur = "put heart into," put strength into. De + coeur = "take heart away." Former Latin teacher here ! I think this is why abusers won't ever encourage their targets, because they know it will give them strength. And instead tear you down, and try and take away your heart, or strength. : / Thank you so much Tim!

That ratio of negative to positive events seems painfully true. I've recieved no encouragement at all as a child (from my parents at least). I wonder if it's even more skewed as an adult now because I've noticed I require MANY "victories" under stressful situations to get only a morcel of an increase in confidence but only ONE negative event or "defeat" to set me back massively.

Patriarchal family system is the worst- your gender determines your fate. I’m trying to recover from this despite being the first born daughter and a son after me. Growing up my brother was the king in my family and I was his acting mum started my role aged just 1.5 years old. 🤗

I did definitely quit. Three yrs of college and I became discouraged and quit. My mom never asked me why. She just cried. I wanted help paying my tuition, as was sleepy and tired from school and work. My mom only cried. She never knew why I quit. She put herself thru college. But I was not that strong. The result is a lifetime of regret at never having finished.

You can do it. Im in school now online. College is different and your classes will still count. I work and have two toddlers. I was going full-time and it got tough so I reduced to part-time and currently thriving. Getting a 4.0 which has always been my dream! You can do it! If its been your dream it can be your reality. Im my opinion school is actually easier now then when I was a kid. Technology helps. Good luck.

Very good stuff... I don't agree with the abortion counsel however, killing a baby I would handle differently. I wouldn't judge my child if she had an abortion but I would encourage life but then accept her choice if it was an abortion. Pastor I think you could insert encouraging life for the baby without coming across as telling what to do. Just my opinion. And I would be the same on homosexuality, I would see it as a choice but it wouldn't phase my love for my son or daughter. You can love and encourage without promoting a particular life that scripture condemns. But with my comments I also got/get so much from these talks Pastor thank you so much...!

Tim would you do a deeper dive in the supporting your children if they say they are gay and the abortion one? This is my hang up because of fear they won't repent. That scares me.

Beautiful words, and these videos are invaluable. Here I would make a couple modifications: first, if someone tells you they’re pregnant, please don’t refer to their pregnancy as a baby, because abortion is then no longer an option. Secondly, if someone tells you they’ve been raped, please take them to the doctor immediately.

I absolutely love these videos! Thank you sooo much Tim! I feel extremely compelled to disagree on the abortion issue.... If you could sit on a park bench with Jesus and tell him about the pregnancy, I can't see him advocating for the ending of a life. I know he would forgive, but out of his Love he would make a way for life. A life is a life, a very valuable life, no matter the age or residence (internal or external). Jesus would never make agreement with the ultimate form of child abandonment. In Him, there is a way to be loving and supportive of the mother AND the father AND the child. I might be misunderstanding what Tim is saying here, but I feel this Truth must be said regardless.

If you’re not lovingly instructing your child in the way that is right, you’re not parenting. Yes I agree that listening and being open to reason with their viewpoint is vital. But to not give your opinion unless they ask would be letting everyone else in the world parent your kids instead because there’s way too many deceitful opinions being propagated.

If becoming a mother would be harmful - physically, emotionally, or mentally - to the impregnated mother, then she can do nothing but pass on generational trauma to her child. Ending that devastating situation before it even begins is an act of love in many cases. The Jewish belief, based on scripture that is shared by Jews and Christians, is that the soul joins the body at the moment of the first breath (as God breathed life into clay to make Adam) so the fetus is simply a vessel waiting to be filled. There was no anti-abortion sentiment in Christendom until the mid 1800s, when the newly licenced profession of "doctor" entered the scene. Suddenly these new doctors dislike that women could quietly, safely, and at their own discretion, have an herbal abortion at home. This wasn't because doctors cared about fetuses, it was because they objected to not being able to make any money from the procedure. So they pressured the government to make abortions illegal unless performed by a licenced doctor. This made abortions much more deadly to the impregnated women, since the doctors performed mechanical abortions rather than the safer herbal abortions. It also made abortions unaffordable to many of the people who needed them most. The typical woman who gets an abortion is a married woman who already has children and knows that she and her husband can't afford to have any more. More children would mean that the already-existing children would starve. In Victorian times, having a family of twelve often literally meant that only three or four would make it to adulthood. Fortunately, the God-given herbs that can bring a safe, cheap abortion still exist, and a little research is all that's needed now for a woman or girl to take matters into her own hands. Thank God for nature and the internet!
