Re-trimming cab/roof headlining - Self built DIY VW T5 camper conversion

On Mon, 10th October 2016 I removed and re-trimmed the headlining on my VW T5 Transporter I'm slowly converting.
Was a quick and simple job to do. Had already completed the van rear roof panels so felt quite confident with it all.
I used a spray contact fabric adhesive much like this one: ebay.to/2xWDYYI
The faux fur fabric throw is like this one: ebay.eu/2l5aP7L

I used headliner dye, which was really easy. Might be worth looking into for anyone looking to tidy up their headliner. I used scratch doctor liquid fabric dye.

02:21 the easiest way is to push that metal and slide your screwdriver to the plastic, then it goes off without marks

G Dub TV turned out really well, all trimmed now cheers dude. Given me the motivation to give the plylining and carpeting a go! Buying the bits Friday. Shame I can't show any pics.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I also noticed down pour local market they were selling massive faux fur throws on one of the stalls in all sorts of colours for dirt cheap - Might be worth a try!?

Great videos mate, keep them coming. One question about the headlining refurb......... I am going to have a go at doing this myself...... Does the additional sound proofing on the roof affect the re- fit of the head lining because of the extra thickness? Thanks in advance Craig

Thanks for the feedback - Nope, there's loads of room up there, you could double or poss even triple insulate the cab if you were so inclined! ;)

Nice job on the van! Really like your videos, when is the next one? Why didn't you use the original ply lining in the van for carpeting? I noticed the ply lining panels in your garden. Just about to carpet mine 😬

Thanks for tuning in! I've been saving up over Christmas and have got all the electrical bits and bobs to install now so am hoping to get a few more videos out over February and March 2017. There was ply lining in the van but it was in a bit of a state once I removed the ply racking (it was a builders van). I was going for windows all round so it just made sense to carpet the original trim panels and stick onto any metalwork I could. If you're thinking of installing speakers or lights into the original trim panels it might be better to go for fixed py as it will be more rigid and less likely to buckle.

How hard was it to get the headliner and new material to fit inside the door seal rubber? About to cover mine with four way stretch to match my rear ceiling panels.

Hey mate, love the videos but how hard was it to get the headliner back on with the extra material around the edges? I'd really like to cover mine but everything else I've taken off never goes back on easy. Are there any tips you'd give me? Cheers.

Hi, I replaced the fixings for longer hidden ones. You can buy them from eBay or online via Harrison’s Trim Supplies. Problem solved! 👊🏻😎

I bought 3x cheap faux fur throws from Tesco, each one covered the rear two ceiling panels and then the third covered the cab lining. They were about £10 each. By far the one mod that has gotten me the most positive comments from people that have seen the van. The kids love it and cant leave the ceiling alone.
