The movie plot was the tomcat IFF was friendly to the SU-57 so they had to get eyeballs on the f14 pilot/reo before they could fire which eliminates the whole stealth aspect since you’re in visual range. He took out two planes because they were in formation and he just guns across them. The only advanced thing they could do was thrust vector at that point.

Stealth was never an issue in the movie, because Rooster doesn’t even know how to turn on the radar if not defunct. On the other hand, the E-2 can see the pair of Su-57s from the beginning any way.

@@ruiliu4157 Not that familiar with the E-2D, it's some hybrid AESA radar or something. normally an AESA radar antena is a fixed unit, it does not move, the E-2's radome still spins the the radar antenna it seems but it's all digital.

Just got back from watching the movie, am just now watching the Reapers re-creation. Lots of comments about how this movie 'stole' the trench run from Star Wars, LOL, Lucas took the idea from WW2 low altitude bomb runs. Interestingly, the Tomcat was newly operational when Star Wars was in theaters. Loved the inclusion of the Red Tail P-51.

If I remember the movie right, the canyon time limit was dictated by the CAP arriving over the target area after the runway was destroyed. So you could fly slower down the canyon IF you're willing to fight a combat group of 5th gens while trying to do that impossible bombing run.

Mr. Cap, I still think you need give @Kortana and the Swedes a crack at this scenario. It's the nastiest one I've seen since @Kortana's beautifully done SAM City scenario. The reasons are pretty obvious. @Kortana is the reincarnation (😁😁😁) of Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (Battlestar Galactica 2003 Reboot) and the Viggen is (arguably) the best AtG plane in DCS (discounting any "working" A-6 mod). Bloodnok and his sneaky Swedes (if they're still around) fly lower than snakesh**. For giggles, try the F-22 (super-cruise) if it has the fuel to do the mission. Also, if the "Iranian" Tomcats are QRA, wouldn't they be better armed than a pair of IR AAM's? I doubt "Iran" has any Sidewinders left.

Now fly the mission as if it were real using the planes and tactics they should have used. For an extra challenge have a load more level 4 Ace pilots coming in from a distant airfield and more advanced large scale SAMs boxing the area as if they are the reason the mission was flown as shown on screen.

When Maverick did the training mission on his own, he must have used the Force. I'm pretty sure the targeting pod can't point and lase at the angle shown there. It needs to be done from a second plane behind to give the bombs time to impact before the pod view is obscured.

@@No1sonuk More like he did the JMT on the MPs when he landed that stolen plane, after putting both himself and that aircraft in an absolutely not necessary hazard. Shockingly… he’d never get the chance to fly the unnecessary “mission”. He’d be Way too busy getting arrested and stripped of his rank and rotting in prison. I know… details. Come on… a silly movie, a ridiculous plot and really, nothing more than a shameless cash grab from a lazy ass producer who can’t think of anything original.

Yeah the movie had a lot of "Not made for GR types" plot holes... that being one of them... I saw it and I was just kinda sad that I couldn't enjoy it b/c it was a ridiculous mission profile, air frame/weapon tasking with a bunch or ridiculous constants that would never exist in real life.. B2s armed with LGBs exist, but not in this movie apparently.

100 ft AGL requirement was movie crap. There is no tactical reason to be that low if masked by terrain. Neither the radar nor the missiles can penetrate granite, and neither can your plane. Fly the military crest (2/3 the way up) to provide ample maneuver space while staying terrain masked. And wires will saw you and your plane in half, DCS modeling them well or not.

As someone who used to build military thermal imagers, it kills me when people call gimbal or turret-mounted imagers "FLIR" when they are clearly not "Forward Looking Infra Red"... Oh, and BTW, the AV-8B NavFLIR project was pronounced "navflur" at the factory, not "navfleer".

You need to delete the Su-57 mod from within the zipped .miz file... I opened the zipped mission file and under the ["requiredModules"] listing I removed the Su-57 entry then saved and re-zipped it up.

My question was how did they get the building materials and workers in to build the bunker/uranium plant... If it truly was surrounded on all sides necessitating the approach the F-18s took they would have had to fly everything in by helicopter.. Nuclear facilities require A LOT of VERY HEAVY materials like lead, concrete and steel, one of the details that took me out of the movie a bit despite the great action/flying scenes.

Well…for starters, the volcano was likely inactive, so no chance of an eruption wrecking everything. As for how they got workers and materials in, its pretty simple - dig a tunnel through the mountains. Then, once construction of the bunker complex is complete, you have 2 options, leave the tunnel in place, or rig some explosives to collapse the tunnel. Besides, the reason the F-18s had to perform such an insane approach wasn’t that there wasn’t any other way to reach it, but that the area was surrounded by SAM sites. Effectively, you _could_ do a normal approach, but you’d be blown out of the sky, hence the crazy approach - to evade the SAM sites and radar detection.

My take away from seeing the movie: "You can never go home again" I "know to much" to enjoy this type of movie... I kept thinking "Who TF planned this mission and tasked it to F-18s" I would guess the writers/directors (or their Navy consultants) know the following: JDAMS with Laser Seakers exist JDAMs with anti GPS jamming packages exist "Home on Jam" GBU-31 JDAM designed specifically to kill GPS jammers exist SEAD exists... CAP Exists... CSAR Exists... F-18s would never be tasked with this mission... It's a textbook B2 mission... Its what they are for. B2's can drop GBU-28s etc... (aka laser guided munitions) not just GPS guided bombs that supposedly would be "jammed" by the craters "gps jammers" ... Only Iran has operational F-14s Iran does not look like Washington State (the Areas that are home to Operational F-14s definitely don't) Iran does not have Su-57s The rest of the realty "stretches" were acceptable (Radar guided SAMs being spoofed/destroyed by flares for example) and maintained the level of suspension of disbelief required for watching Hollywood movies but the whole plot of the raid just made my roll my eyes and I could not get into the movie... Perhaps I was young and blissfully ignorant. but the original's plot was far more believable from a tasking/mission reality standpoint... I could forgive the "Mig-28s" .... I could forgive Volleyball scene... I loved that movie... The new one just made me feel old and cynical/disappointed.

I get your point but, this is a movie. It's made for entertainment. No one wants to see a B2 drop a guided bomb from 20k feet or whatever the assigned altitude would have been. There's no fun in that and the would have literally been a sub 20 minute movie. When watching a movie you have to see as '' entertainment '' reality is well boring to watch. Let's face it. Aviation is boring to watch there's nothing to do auto pilot does basically everything. By taski g F18's it makes for an entertaining movie. Again movie not reality which is what people always miss.

I could believe they figured out the thermals and the thin atmosphere wouldn’t produce deadly g forces at Mach 10… but not 10.2, that’s outside the contract specs. No way they’d over-design anything on a government budget. Only unbelievable part of that movie that ruined the immersion for me for a moment.

@@s87343jim yeah but f-35 wasn't meant to dog fight it was meant for long range air support while being undedected. The f-22 has better maneuverability and stealth and it would put up a better fight than the f-35 even tho there still the best in the world at what they do

But the F-22 doesn’t take off from a carrier. The movie made it seem like it needed to be a Navy mission. F-35 would be interesting. They would have used them in the movie but they don’t come as 2-seaters, which was needed to film the actors in the real planes.

Let's use correct NATO BDA terms cap. You interdicted the runway. You can't destroy a runway. You would have to atomize it such that it can never ever be repaired.

Irassiastan is only nation who still actively flys the F-14 and apearantyl has 3 Combat ready Su-57s. Irassiastan is also apparently located about 90 miles north of Seattle WA.... Right next to NAS Whidbey Island, you can watch the flying scenes in TG2 and recognize the terrain instantly.

Technically -Dambuster operation -Star Wars with Trench run Ep IV and Tunnel run Ep VI -Top Gun -Afterburner got inspired by Top Gun -Ace Combat 1 got inspired by the Arcade games, Top Gun and Star Wars with giant superweapons -2 starts to give Canyon and tunnels -3, 4, 5, Zero, 6 -7 and Top Gun Maverick was supposed to release on the same year and both has similiar mission and even had a collaboration
